Over the last 5 years I've been a student at UCSB and I've been fortunate enough to play here 10-15 times. The course certainly goes up and down in terms of course condition but yesterday was probably one of the best rounds I've had there in a while. Fairways were very good. Tees and greens were perfect. All the surrounding aprons around the greens were perfect as well. Greens were very quick and holding putts incredibly well. The fairways are never immaculate here but around the greens it's about as perfect as it can get. If you enjoy a solid test of golf with tough fast greens and of course great the great ocean views then come to Sandpiper!

I had a 9 am t time on Thus 28th. Got to the course from Summerland in 15min. Carried my bag out to the cart area before checking in and was greeted by a staff member who asked if I was Mr. Williams! He wanted to know if I wanted to go out sooner! Checked in and I was off! Played the back nine first. I was a single. No one on the back. The back is defiantly the harder of the two for a few reasons. Normally you play into the ocean breeze, or a cross wind. I was lucky to have it all to myself in the morning with a light breeze. 10th green sticks out like a tongue pointed out to the pacific! 11. is a down hill par three to the beach! 12 is an up hill dog leg right blind tee shot back up to the coast line. 13. is a risk reward par 5 with a decision on your third shot. Depending you your second, weather to carry the small canyon with all the bushes and the greenside bunker or play safe on the left bail out area. Remember the wind! ;) This is the most pictured side of the course as you are playing most holes next to the coast line. Play can get slower on for this very reason. The tee boxes were perfect. Fairways immaculate, rough fair, greens were fast and holding shots! I was very lucky to be below most holes today. Great advise from the previous review! The sand was, well, varied depending on where you were on the course in proximity to the coast. Some were filled with water! Some fluffy and some soft and fluffy. I agree, for the full rack rate, the bunkers should be in much better shape but this is my only complaint except for the rate itself. It was worth it to me because I only play here once a year or so but you would be better served to purchase the players card program if you live here which I'm sure most do. Join the Birthday list and get a free round! Played the front nine alone as well, caught up to a twosome on 7. POP was very fast for me because I was a single and no one out there! Very enjoyable. Get out there and play! ;)

Played Sandpiper for my first time yesterday at 12:00. A friend got me out for the Preferred Players Program rate of $70 including cart. It was a gorgeous afternoon with probably typical onshore winds, nothing too severe like I encountered earlier in the day at Rustic Canyon. The course is in very nice condition, highlighted by the fairways and greens. You do not want to be above the hole on these greens. Actually, you don't want to be hole high, either. They have lots of slope and are very fast. The best chance to score is definitely from below the hole. They were pretty soft and well-struck approaches stopped quickly. The fairways were good across the board but exceptionally great and carpet-like in some spots. The rough was fine but got spottier the farther away from the fairway you got, with a few bare spots here and there. Tee boxes were good. I was only in one bunker and it was full of clumps of mud/dirt/wet sand. For the price tag, I would expect better sand conditions. Layout-wise, the course is nice but really relies on the fantastic scenery for the wow factor. The 10th and 11th holes were the highlights for me, both routed directly toward the ocean. Spent Sunday afternoon up at Sandpiper watching the SCGA Team Play event. Walked most of the course but didn't play (was there to support my team) but thought a review would help others thinking of playing there.

Beautiful day, beautiful course in very good condition. Some thin lies but mostly lush and very playable, fairways and rough. Greens are excellent and quite fast, really difficult to judge those downhill putts ... they would roll 5-10 feet past the cup with the lightest effort.

Bunkers in good shape, good sand, easy to play from but some thin areas to be careful of.

Altogether, a gorgeous course with some of the best ocean views you'll find anywhere on the west coast. Pricey, very pricey. Nice grass range and chipping/putting area, too.

I've played here many times but admit I was fooled by the speed today. Nice job greenskeeper! Really excellent. Fairways and tee boxes looking much improved.

Played for the first time on 8/8/14. Free golf from winning two bets from a friend. The price was always the reason that kept me away from this course, but when it's free, I wouldn't pass! The course was in good condition. It wasn't absolutely lush because of the drought, but it was still in good condition. From tee to green, no bare spots, just a little yellowish grass here and there. Playing from the tip made it very challenging with the length and the ocean breeze. The layout was fun. Not too narrow, but you had to hit shots to score. Pace of play was 4 hours and change walking. The starter let us start ahead of the group of beginners. No one was ahead of us, and we were not pushed from behind. I would like to come back if I could get a good deal (doesn't have to be free!).

Always a favorite and we hit it right, Chamber of Commerce day, very few folks out on a Thursday afternoon, went out as a fivesome and finished in 4 hours....Some fairways are having some issues with a die off in spots, the greens are very true and not as fast as we have seen in the past...awesome day.

If you haven't been before or been in a while, it is worth the trip to play "Pebble Beach South".

Been playing the central coast for years, Sandpiper was in wonderful condition this week, I'm sure the recent rains were helpful, fairways were the best I've seen for some time, greens were excellent and fast as usual! Of all the courses I've played along California, Sandpiper has some of the best views around, staff was friendly too.
