Played the Blues (6432/70.5/125) with seniors Jeff & Patty in 4.5H on a busy Monday mid-day. We teed off @ 11 am in sunny, breezy conditions with temps in the 80's sandwiched in between 4somes. The course is looking and playing well. Somewhat challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is more flat. The tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage and were mostly lush, nice to play from. The Kikuyu rough is mowed down and more lush than thin. Even though the rough is not high, it's still punitive. Several times we had to be within 5 yards of balls to see them. Farther away from the fairways you could get hardpan, wood chips, thin areas or thick lost ball rough. The sand traps were nicely maintained with a generous amount of medium to large grain brown sand. The greens were smooth, putted medium fast and while firm, they still held well struck approach shots. The customer service was excellent. Their carts have GPS to the front/middle/back of the green and can be adjusted to measure to traps or hazards. The driving range is average, off mats. However they do have a club repair center on site. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep things interesting. Medium difficulty course in very good condition @ reasonable prices. Recommended = Yes.

Played the Blues (6432/70.5/125) with Brian, Sam & Jordan in 4H, 45M. Excellent guys to play with, we teed off just after 1 pm in sunny, fairly calm conditions. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep things interesting. Somewhat challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is more flat. The recent rains have the course looking very nice. Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage but were more thin than lush. The Kikuyu rough is more lush than thin. Deep spots around the fairways can be punitive, several times we almost had to step on a ball to find it. Farther away from the fairways you could get hardpan, wood chips, thin areas or thick lost ball rough. The sand traps were nicely maintained with a generous amount of medium to large grain brown sand. The greens were very good. They were smooth, putted medium fast and while firm, they still held well struck approach shots. The customer service was good. Tee boxes were in decent to good shape. there was good coverage but had some uneven lies.

Fairways were not so green. they had pretty good coverage but had more than a few thin spots.

Greens were in fantastic shape. very few ball marks, rolled very smooth. were slow because of the rain.

rough varied, some places were dirt, some were 3-4 inches thick.

Overall enjoyed the course, not going to be in a rush to play again due to distance.

Played the Blues (6432/70.5/125) as a 3some in 4H twilight in windy, sunny conditions. The recent rains have the course looking nice. Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage but were more thin than lush. The Kikuyu rough is more thin than lush overall. Farther away from the fairways, it is more hit/miss. You could get hardpan, wood chips, brown/thin areas or thick lost ball rough. They were smooth, putted medium fast and held well struck approach shots. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep you honest. Played the Blues (6432/70.5/125) in 4H on an overcast, rainy, calm afternoon. Matched up with Gunther, Margot & Devin for an enjoyable mid day round. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep you honest. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Medium to somewhat challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. The customer service was mediocre, not sure why they were adamant that our group could not tee off until the actual tee time when #1 tee was sitting vacant for 15 minutes at a time? Only has a few water stations, so that needs to be taken into account before you tee off here. Overall, the course is in decent condition for mid December. Played the Blues (6432/70.5/125) in 4H, 15M in cloudy, calm conditions in the mid 60's. Matched up with Dave, Elliott & Greg for an enjoyable mid day weekend round. The course is in decent condition for mid December and was busy mid day but the pace moved well for a weekend. Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage and played better than they looked. The Kikuyu rough is more thin than lush in most places. Farther away from the fairways, it is more hit/miss. You could get hardpan, wood chips, brown/thin areas or thick lost ball rough. The sand traps were very nicely maintained. A decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand that played well. The greens were good overall. They putted medium speed & were consistent from green to green. They were soft and held approach shots. A complaint I have here is the areas of encroachment from the Kikuyu collars into the edges of many greens. Can't we edge from time to time and make this a non issue? Got out with the boys Sunday 12/4 at 10:40, walking the Blues. POP was pretty good for a mid-morning weekend round, 4:20 to get around. The greens are always the highlight here. Sunday they were smooth and pretty fast, around 11 on the stimp. They are a bit soft, so any good shot into them will hold. The fairways are entering their winter phase, turning light green/brownish, but still had good coverage. Nice consistent base underneath, so they're a pleasure to hit from. Tee boxes were all level and lush. The rough is a mixed bag. Around the greens it's thick and lush, elsewhere...you never know what you'll get. The one bunker I was in was in great shape, with lots of fluffy sand. We saw the cart girl at least 5 times throughout the round, and customer service, in general, was excellent. Simi Hills is always one of my favorite places to play. I definitely recommend it.

Walked the blues on Sunday 10/30 at 11:20. POP was good at around 4:15. My friend who had never played there before summed up the conditions quite well: "If you're in the places you're supposed to be in, it's in fantastic shape." He is correct. The fairways and greens are in really nice shape. Fairways are nice and lush, but not too soft so you still get some roll out. There was a decent amount of GUR marked and a some thin areas, but no big deal. The greens are fabulous. Maybe a bit soft, but beautifully smooth and medium fast...around 9-10ish. No ball mark damage, just smooth, green carpet. Once you get into the rough, it's a different story. Splotchy, mixed grasses of varying length, many areas of hardpan, you never know what you're going to get. The bunkers are mostly dirt, not really sand. However, they are very playable with plenty of room to get under the ball. I did see huge mounds of sand next to the maintenance barn, so hopefully the sand will be improved. Service was great, as usual, and we saw the cart girl at least 4 times. I definitely recommend this course right now... a lot of bang for your buck.

A year was far too long before coming back to Simi Hills on Sunday. Played the blue tees with two friends and had an absolute blast with the course being, as noted by previous GK reviews, in excellent shape from tee to green.

When Simi Hills is in this kind of shape, it remains one of the best values in the Los Angeles area. It's a wonderful layout that provides great scenery, elevations and a clever and challenging route alongside a prominent mountain. There are few easy holes on this course but almost all are very fair and are receptive to good low scores.

At present the greens are in really nice shape. They're fast, receive shots well and people here are apparently doing a good job of fixing their ball marks. One friend thought they were a tad bit on the 'spongy' side, but it didn't affect his enjoyment of their quality.

The fairways are in very nice shape after a long, hot summer. There is no shortage of green in the middle of the fairways, but of course there will be a few dried out areas on the fringes and the rough can be both thick and daunting or in parts of the course near the native area thin and mulch heavy. I was only in one bunker and the sand was good. Tee boxes were nice, level and provided a good platform to launch from.

Personally had a great time as I bested my best score there by 1 stroke and that after a disastrous triple bogey on the par 3 15th hole over a lake! I'm not sure if there are any plans to aerate or reseed anytime soon, so I would suggest a trip up there asap. You won't be let down.
