Played the Golds (6381/70.4/125) with John in 3.5H in clear, breezy conditions around 80. SH is a nice layout to walk with few tees far from the last green. Fun layout to play with plenty of hills, trees plus a few lakes to keep you interested. Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots except for the par 3's. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage with a few brown spots. Overall, nice to play from. The Kikuyu rough here is tough. Not overly long, but it is overly thick. Even a lie seemingly sitting up can be penal. The sand traps have a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand that played well. The greens were recently top dressed, but they putted okay overall, medium speed & were consistent from green to green. They held approach shots. The customer service was excellent as usual. Saw the drink cart gal several times today. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Decent driving range with mats 5/7 days. Excellent club repair facility beside the driving range that is usually manned. Medium difficulty course in good condition @ reasonable prices. Recommended = Yes.

Played the Golds (6381/70.4/125) as a single in clear, breezy conditions in the high 80's. Amazing to play a mid afternoon weekend round a hole behind a 2some with 4 full holes open behind you. Cut 2 holes ahead of the group in front on the back then circled back... never waited a shot the entire round, awesome POP! Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots except for the par 3's. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage with a few brown spots. However, I always had decent to good lies in the fairway. The Kikuyu rough is not overly long, but it is overly thick. Even a lie seemingly sitting up can be penal. The sand traps have a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand that played well. Nicely maintained. The greens putted okay overall, medium speed & were consistent from green to green. They had some browned out areas but held approach shots. SH is a nice walking layout with few tees far from the last green. Fun playing layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep you interested. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. The customer service was excellent as usual. Saw the drink cart gal several times today. Large, refillable lemonade in the snack bar was delicious on a hot afternoon. Decent driving range with mats 5/7 days. Excellent club repair facility beside the driving range that is usually manned. The course is in decent condition for mid Summer... but not nearly as nice as it was a couple of months ago. Most of the tees were decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage, almost shaggy on a few holes. A few brown spots, but I always had decent lies in the fairway. The Kikuyu rough is penal. Even though it is not overly long, it is overly thick. The sand traps were very nicely maintained. A decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand that played well. The greens had some browned out areas but putted okay overall. They were medium speed & were consistent from green to green. They were not overly firm and held approach shots. A complaint I have here is the areas of encroachment from the Kikuyu collars into the edges of many greens. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep you interested. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Medium to somewhat challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. The customer service was good and saw the drink cart gal several times today. Teed off on Monday at 8:20am as a twosome. Played behind a foursome that was very speedy, as we rarely had to wait on a shot. The pace of play was 3.5 hours. During the morning hours it never got too hot. Just hit low 80's when we finished. The weather was perfect and the course is in terrific shape. This has to be the best conditioned municipal golf course in L.A. and Ventura counties.

The fairways are very lush. They are nearly perfect to hit off of. There a few well marked areas from which you can get a drop that were stressed. But they were getting water and appeared to be improving from the last time I was here. Tee boxes are OK for the most part. The bunkers looked good. My friend was in the greenside bunker on hole 9 and said it was thin and too firm. Not sure how the other bunkers are on the course. The greens ran medium fast and very smooth. They were soft and very receptive.

I really enjoy this course. It is in top shape, and has a nice variety of holes. I highly recommend playing this course.

Played sunday morning as a 4 some. Got out a few minutes early and there was no one in front of us. We didn't ever catch the group ahead of us nor did anyone hit into us from behind. Great job spreading out the tee times there.

Overall the course is in great shape. Only complaint is that they either (1) overwatered the fairways (entirely possible due to the heat we've had) or (2) we played right after they watered. We didn't see any sprinklers on so I'm going to guess it was the former and not the latter. Complete coverage of fairways and most of the rough (little thinner the farther away you get, but they used mulch/chips). Boxes were pretty level and you could always find a good place to hit from. Greens were in great shape with most ball marks repaired. Quick and true for the most part as they dried out. Sand was soft and easy to hit from.

Overall a great place to play, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quick, cheap round.

Played the Golds (6381/70.4/124) twilight in 3H, 20M. Played 9 with Super seniors Stan & Norm, then 9 as a single. The weather was in the 70's, bright, sunny and calm. SH lengthened a couple of holes on the Blacks to stretch out the tips a bit more. They shortened a few holes on all the other tees. This should assist POP because on holes 1 & 2 the Blues, Whites and Reds all moved up a tee box. (They now call those the Gold, Silver & Bronze tees) They also added a new set of Jr/Sr Copper tees. New tee markers and new scorecards. Nice improvements! The tees were fairly lush with most divots recently repaired. The Kikuyu fairways were mostly lush, well maintained & had good coverage. The Kikuyu rough was semi lush and mowed down fairly close near the fairways. The farther away from the fairways it gets thinner and there is more hardpan and wood chips/turf reduction areas. The sand traps were nicely maintained with coarse medium to large grain brown sand. The greens were not as quick as they usually are here. Putted medium speed and were smooth/consistent from green to green. They were firm but still receptive to holding approach shots. Nice repair shop beside the driving range where they will regrip or reshaft clubs while you wait. Big shout out to Jason who put a new grip on my Driver that I had ordered free of charge. Decent driving range that is open late with lights. The customer service was excellent from all encountered. They were running slightly ahead of my scheduled tee time. No Marshall but did see the drink cart once. Medium difficulty course in above average condition @ good prices. Definitely recommended.

To break up the drive home from Elkins, stopped by Simi Hills. I was able to get up pretty quick, so I decided to go for it. This is another course I used to play frequently, so since moving to Coto, not so much any more. What a deal. $22 to walk as a senior, for such a wonderful course. Wish this course was closer !!

I won't go into great deal because the last two reviews sum up the conditions nicely. I did not find the greens as bumpy as I expected, which was nice. Such a fun course at such a great price. Let me say that I am very jealous of those of you who live near this area. In Southern Orange County, all we have is grossly overpriced courses!

Played one of my SoCal favorites on Sunday with a round at Simi Hills. Nick's previous review from the same day is pretty spot on. Simi Hills remains one of the best bang for your buck courses in Southern California, and does it with ease.

Really fun layout that's equally challenging but forgiving, with conditions that rival many private clubs for consistency and upkeep. At Simi Hills you'll find some very nice greens right now that hold shots well and roll true at medium-fast speeds. You'll encounter mostly green and lush fairways with a few dry areas on the fringes. The rough can be penal and there are certainly some thin lies to be found out there, along with a lot of mulch areas that make hitting the ball very difficult. Bunkers are in nice shape with ample sand, and the tee boxes are all level and in good shape.

Cart service came by during our 18 at least twice, and the staff in the pro shop and grill are always very nice and pleasant to boot. I played the black tees and walked with a rented push cart for I believe $48, which is a total steal for this course which could easily be charging more and getting it. Dont' tell them.

The course is in good to very good summer condition. Fun layout with plenty of hills & trees to keep you honest & interested. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Medium to somewhat challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. The tees were decently maintained with good coverage and few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways were mostly lush with good coverage. Played well in spite of a few browned out areas that they were actively watering. The Kikuyu rough is mowed down and generally good to play from. More lush than thin in most places. Farther away from the fairways, it is more hit/miss. You could get hardpan, wood chips, thin areas or thick lost ball rough. The sand traps were nicely maintained. A decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand that plays better than they look. The greens were very good overall. They putted medium fast speed & were consistent from green to green. Firm but still hold approach shots well. A complaint I have here is that the person setting the cups does not set them deep enough. My playing partners had 2 putts today hit the back of the hole and be ejected because the plastic part of the cup is set too high IMO. The customer service was very good from everyone. No drink cart today, did see a Marshall out patrolling for one of the few times in recent memory here. SH only has a few water stations, so that needs to be taken into account before you tee off when it's hot. Decent snack shop on the turn that is pretty well stocked for a golf course. Decent driving range with mats 5/7 days complete with a club repair shop onsite. Medium difficulty course in good condition @ reasonable prices. Recommended = Yes.
