I played my GK Cup match yesterday, 7/3 in a foursome that included Nickesquire. His complete review is a few back in the thread, so I'm just adding a few of my impressions. Any brown areas in my view were really incidental. What struck me was the overall sense of lushness and green throughout the course, extending through much of the rough. Where groomed, the rough was cut to the point that you were not going to lose or have trouble finding a ball, but it was probably going to cost you a shot as often as not, especially with longer shots/irons. Similarly, the fairways were lush, sometimes to the point of cushy. As lush as I've seen in a while, the rollout was correspondingly less. Bunkers were firm, well groomed, and (I thought) nice to play out of if your lie wasn't problematic. Otherwise, it's all as Nick described. A nice, interesting course in good shape that offers very good value.

Played the Blues (6432/70.4/125) in 4H, 40M mid day with Mike, T8fish & Lamitchw for their GK Cup match. The weather was sunny, mid 70's with a little breeze. SH is a fun, 35-36 par 71 layout with lakes coming into play on holes 4, 5, 14, 15 & 18. Plenty of mature trees and rollings hills to also keep things interesting. The customer service was excellent. I checked in and they were running right on time for tee times. No Marshall here, but the drink cart was around numerous times. The tees were fairly lush. Several holes could use divot repair. The Kikuyu fairways were mostly lush, well maintained & had good coverage. Beginning to get some summer brown spots, but still good to play from overall. The Kikuyu rough was semi lush and mowed down fairly close near the fairways. The farther away from the fairways it gets thinner and there is more hardpan and wood chips/turf reduction areas. The sand traps were nicely maintained with a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand. The greens putted medium fast and were smooth/consistent from green to green. They were firm but still receptive to holding approach shots. SH is a challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. Medium difficulty course in above average condition @ good prices. For a municipal course, tough to beat. Recommended.

Played 6-27-17 early morning walking for $34 as a single until I was joined by another single on 8, finishing in 3 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, lush and mostly level with minimal divot damage on three pars. Fairways were in great shape with the ball sitting up almost as if on a tee. Rough was in good shape, a few different types of grass but all cut at same height and about an inch longer than fairways. Was not in any bunkers but they looked to have nice brown sand in them. Greens were in good shape rolling medium pace, mostly smooth and holding shots nicely. Overall course is in really good shape.

Played SH mid-morning on Monday 6/12. Perfect weather, and near perfect course. I cannot think of a course in the area that is in better shape than Simi Hills. The fairways are fantastic, with great lies everywhere. The greens were very smooth, medium fast, and held shots well. The two bunkers I was in had slightly firm sand that was a pleasure to hit from. The rough is 1 - 3 inches and in good shape. The only small negative comment I have is that some of the tee boxes were a little unlevel. I paid only $22 walking as a senior for this gem of a golf course. I highly recommend playing Simi Hills. Not only is it in great shape, it is very much fun to play.

The weather was in the 70's, bright, sunny and breezy. SH is a fun, 35-36 par 71 layout with lakes coming into play on holes 4, 5, 14, 15 & 18. Medium difficulty course in above average condition @ good prices. Plenty of mature trees and rollings hills and to also keep things interesting. The tees were lush with most divots already repaired. The Kikuyu fairways were lush, well maintained & had good coverage. The Kikuyu rough was semi lush and mowed down fairly close near the fairways. The farther away from the fairways there is more hardpan & wood chips/turf reduction areas. The sand traps were decently maintained with a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand. The greens putted medium speed and were smooth/consistent from green to green. They were firm but still receptive to holding approach shots. The customer service was excellent. I checked in and was sent to the 1st tee on schedule. 1 week after the city championship, this is about as good as it gets for SH. The rough was mowed down and the fairways & greens were as good as I have ever seen them here. Challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. No Marshall @ SH and no drink cart on weekdays. Nice snack shop on the turn with excellent burgers. For a municipal course, tough to beat.

Played 27 holes from the Blues (6432/70.4/125) twilight in 5H. Best POP I have ever experienced here. The weather was in the 70's, bright, sunny and breezy. Matched up with Calhoun for 18 and played 9 as a single. They are clearly getting the course primed to host the Simi City Championship this weekend. The rough was mowed down, the fairways looked as good as I have ever seen them here and they did a very subtle vericutt on the greens earlier in the week. I was told they are planning on having the greens swift and firm for the City Championship this weekend. The customer service was excellent. I checked in and was sent right to the 1st tee as a single 15 minutes ahead of my scheduled tee time. Challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flat. The tees were fairly lush. However, they had more unfixed divots than I would have expected a few days before their biggest tournament of the year. The Kikuyu fairways were mostly lush, well maintained & had good coverage. The Kikuyu rough was semi lush and mowed down fairly close near the fairways. The farther away from the fairways it gets thinner and there is more hardpan and wood chips/turf reduction areas. The sand traps were nicely maintained with a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand. A few fairways traps has some rocks that needed to be removed. The greens putted medium fast and were smooth/consistent from green to green. They were firm but still receptive to holding approach shots. No Marshall here and no drink cart on weekdays. Played the Blacks (6651/71.2/122) twilight in 4.5H. The weather was in the 70's, bright, sunny and breezy. Matched up with with Josea, Tyler and Steve, excellent group to play with! Tyler was maybe 9 years old and played the red tees on par 3's and teed off from the 250 yard marker on the other holes. Quite impressive, his dad Steve, a former college FB player who could bomb it had taught him all aspects of the game well. It was awesome to see them interact and Tyler answer questions about what he was trying to accomplish on a particular shot. He had a birdie and a couple of pars playing this way, which I found to be an excellent way to train a junior golfer on how to play on a real course. Josea was a college golfer who has aspirations of going pro, he had an birdie, eagle, birdie stretch mid round and managed the course expertly having never seen it before. Stepped out of my comfort zone and played the black tees for the 1st time here. Six holes account for almost all of the 219 yard difference in the Blacks and the Blues. You start adding 30+ yards to 1/3 of the holes and it completely changes the complexion of those holes. SH is a fun, 35-36 par 71 layout with lakes coming into play on holes 4, 5, 14, 15 & 18. Plenty of mature trees and rollings hills and to also keep things interesting. Challenging course to walk, constantly up/down rolling hills on the front 9, the back 9 is flatter. Played the Blues (6432/70.4/125) twilight in 4H. Matched up with with Nick, Rick and Robert, really fun group to play with! The weather was in the high 60's, breezy and overcast. The tees were fairly lush with few unfixed divots. It was nice to see topdressing on a couple of tees they are trying to refurbish. The Kikuyu fairways were fairly lush, well maintained & had good coverage. The Kikuyu rough was semi lush and mowed down fairly close near the fairways. The farther away from the fairways it gets thinner and there is more hardpan. They have also added wood chips in some turf reduction areas. The sand traps were nicely maintained with a decent amount of medium to large grain brown sand. The greens putted medium fast and were smooth/consistent from green to green. They were very receptive to holding approach shots. Fun layout with plenty of rollings hills and mature trees to keep things interesting. In general this is a great course for an average golfer. My only complaint is that it does not have a marshall keeping the slower players moving. Yesterday we played behind three older women who were more interested in chatting than playing. They were using carts, but we never saw all of the exit their carts at the same time. Each only hit the ball about 50 yards off the tee, but they always waited until the next group was more than halfway to the green before teeing up. We waited on almost every tee and most fairways. When we asked the clubhouse manager to say something to them, they claimed that their pace of play was OK. This course needs a good marshall program in the worst way to help move slower players along.
