Now is the time to play Simi Hills. Seems like every year right about now this course is at its best. Looks like they're getting ready for the city championship they have every year. The entire course is about at its best shape right now. Fairway are in great condition. Very lush, minimal bare spots. Nice soft and great to take a divot from. Rough is equally good, especially round the greens. Bunkers are raked well and have just the right amount of sand. Greens are more or less normal except maybe slightly faster. Really a great time to enjoy this course.

Met TonyBarrett here Sunday morning with a 10:00 tee time. Got out on time and POP was a little under 5 hours. Not bad for the time of day on a weekend. Paid $42 to walk on a fairly easy course to walk.

Tee boxes were in decent shape. Some were a little furry, not bad. Mostly level, never had a problem finding a place to hit from. Fairways thin in some areas not bad, but still had good lies never a problem to hit from. Rough was about the same as the fairways.

Greens held shots nicely, very few ball marks and I found to putt true, but the flat stick was working so that could be an influence. However I did miss a couple shortys, my fault not the greens. Little to no ball marks.

Bunkers, here is were I wasn't completely satisfied. Both that I were in had good levels of sand but looked and played like they hadn't been turned over in weeks as they were both crusty. Not a major issue, but have seen better there.

Overall I would say the conditions were well worth the green fee and I will be back.

Played today 4/30 with a mid morning tournament. Pace of play was about 5 hours. Not bad for a Saturday. It has been a while since we last played here. The cart we use looked fairly new. It was nice that the carts has GPS in it. I liked that you can touch the screens to see how far the bunkers, water, etc was ahead of us.

Course conditions were great considering we are still dealing with the drought. Fairways were well covered. Tee boxes were great. Greens were in great shape tho' it was a little hard. Putts were rolling a little fast today. Hardly had to fix a ball mark today. Some of the greens were fairly large.

Sand was fairly decent. It was nice that there was sand in there. There is a lot of bunkers on this course. This is not an easy course to play. There are some holes here with elevated greens and some holes where you hit down to the greens. Water comes into play on about 5 or 6 holes. Plus there is one hole on the back 9 with a carry with a river channel in the middle of the fairway. We'll be back to play here to play again.

Walked the blues Sunday at 11:30. POP was pretty slow at almost 5 hours. The greens have fully healed from aeration, and were the highlight of the course. They were running around 10 on the stimp, and held lines well. Toward the end of the round, they started to bump up a bit. Tee boxes and fairways are both lush and well covered. The fairways are a mixture of grasses, but all lush and nicely maintained. The bunkers were a little crusty, but still played well...especially since I holed out from the right bunker on 8! It was very nice to get back to Simi Hills. I've missed it, and I definitely recommend it.

Course provides a good challenge (played blues) greens a little bumpy but putted true - need to keep ball below the hole. POP was under 5 hours and cart person came by twice per side

Played here with fellow GKer, Kviser on Saturday. On the drive to the course we passed by Knollwood Country Club and I made comment about very slow play - a foreshadow for the day. Well that slow play turned into a 6 hour round. My bad for cursing the round. Like Kviser said the Bermuda was still semi-dormant and the greens were ok but inconsistent. Bunkers had decent sand but some were not raked. Enjoyed a good hot dog after the 9th hole which was the best part of the day. I don’t think I will be back here on the weekend.

Played Saturday with fellow GKer, DKnight. We had a 10:28, but the course was crowded and running a little behind so we teed off at 10:38 with a couple of nice guys. It was a very slow round and we waited on most shots, finishing around 4:30. Really, almost 6 hours on the round. I walked and paid $42 with another $7 for a medium bucket of range balls (60 balls to share with my buddy). Not much change with the course from the last time I played here. Tees, fairways, and rough are semi-dormant Bermuda and kikuyu grasses with some areas of fescue or rye mixed in the rough. I thought the fairways tended to be on the dry side, but that just helped with roll. There were decent lies and a good amount of turf under the ball all day. The greens were soft and receptive. They rolled okay: slow to medium speed (a little inconsistent at times) and not too many ball marks to be repaired. I will probably not play here again on a weekend in the near future due to the crowds and cost relative to other courses nearby.
