I have been coming here for a couple of years now for and this one of my favorite golf courses in my rotation. had a 9:48am tee time but Matt (funny and cool guy) in the pro shop hooked us up with an earlier time at 9:15am. Finished in less than five hours and we would have finished faster but my twosome was paired up a couple of senior guys that were all over the place. First off, the course was in above average shape. Tees were nice and taken care of. Fairways on the other hand were average with spots of hard pan lies. Greens were in great shape and were rolling true with the exception small rocks from the bunkers. I love holes 3, 5, 11, 12, 14, and 16 because of the options off the tee. Shot my personal best of 71, 3 over on the front and 3 under on the back. Greens were so nice that I only had 20 putts. In the past the greens were either lighting quick or slow and bumpy from being punched but not today. They were just perfect. Even the green on hole 6 was consistent. My only gripe would be that they tend to over water the greens when the weather gets hot and this was evident when my 6 iron shot on hole 8 plugged on the green. More than half of the ball was under ground but other wise the greens were receptive with the right amount of spin. The staff is great from the starters, snack bar, and the very friendly Marshalls. One tip that needs to be stressed is the club repair shop is the cheapest and fastest repair shop I have ever found. I had a hybrid re-gripped and it cost me no more than 5 dollars and I was hitting balls with it in less than 15 minutes. They have a great selection of products and it is next to the driving range so instant adjustment is possible. Driving range is good as well and they let you hit off the grass on Mondays and Wednesdays but the yellow range balls gives a sense of hitting kiddy balls. I live in Mar Vista in West LA but I drive to Simi Valley because the course is well worth the drive. Never too crowed except Wednesday mornings from the Womens tournament. Practice facility is adequate but having the chipping and putting area next to the 10th tee can be annoying and distracting. Overall go there and play I know I will be back real soon to see if I can shoot better than 71.

We teed off this morning at 5:45 and were done at 9 AM. Great course and in great shape. We found the fairways, greens, tee boxes to be truly enjoyable. I had forgotten how nice the Ted Robinson courses are, with their mixture of water and sand. I highly recommend this layout for those of you who have never played here. The tips on GK are very informative, as they relate to each hole.

Got paired with a twosome, teed off a little after 9:00AM, Saurday, 03/13/11. Over all the course was in good shape. The fairways were good, bunkers had sand (and raked), but the greens are just a little more bumpier than I would like to putt from-- poa annua, when you start seeing or noticing the buds on the green without trying, you know this will be a bumpy and a wobbly roll. The pace of play were ok for the first 3 holes or so then it crawled for 4 hours through 13th. I played one more hole after that, but it didn't look like it was going to improve for the rest of the day. On my way out, no one was even teeing off on 17th, and the next group were chipping up on 18th. Meanwhile, all the marshals were up front. Slow day, that's all. (Eiuw!)

Played on 1/21/11, early AM tee time. After the days of high winds, we had a calm morning with a breezy back nine. Maintenance crews have done a good job of cleaning up the course of fallen tree branches and debris. The course is in good shape; tee boxes were a little beat up, but fairways were green with no brown spots. They have lightly sanded all of the greens, and although they are not as fast & firm as they were a few weeks ago, they were in good shape and rolling true. Looks like they are constructing a new tee box on hole #11. This is a great value for seniors, especially if you walk the course.

Played 8/22. Overall conditions pretty good. Greens rolled quite well, with the exception of #6. They rebuilt that grren several years ago, and it has never been good. I think it's time they rip it out and start over. Bunkers looked good, but were difficult to play out of - dirt over concrete for the most part. The new tee boxes are great, and the addition of black tees add a new chellenge to some of the holes. New shorter white tees on a few holes make it more realistic for shorter hitters. Now, if people who should be playng white tees would actually play them, it sure would help with pace of play.

After a 3 month hiatus I was able to get out yesterday and played Simi Hills. The city championship was just there 2 weeks ago and it was apparent that they had cleaned up and marked the course for that and a lot of it had carried over.
The tees were in great shape! They have spent a great deal of time and money this year making improvements and this was the area that was most obvious. I honestly didn't see any issues with the changes being made and am beginning to feel that for a muni, this is as good as it gets in our area. Fairways were in nice shape. There was no cart girl, and on a day when temps were reaching into the high 90's that was a bit disappointing, but overall, customer service was good and cordial. Will definitely be going back from time to time.

Played Simi Hills during the City Championship held the weekend of July 31/Aug 1. This was a very well run event with good food and prizes for the players. A and B flights available as well if you aren't a low handicapper. The course itself was in very solid condition. It's an interesting track that requires accuracy to score well. They are making changes to the course that actually qualify as improvements. Too often courses add gimmicks or tricks that make things worse. At Simi Hills, two new back tee boxes have been added. One up on the hill of the par 3 8th hole stretching it from 180 or so to 223. This is a positive addition. The view is great from up top and this adds more variety to the par 3's by having a long one in the mix. It is definitely a tougher hole now but certainly fair as there is plenty of room to miss the green in the surrounding rough. The other new back tee is on the par 4 16th. It is now 423 from the back and much more difficult to drive the ball through the fairway into the creek. The fairway bunker on the right also appears to be reshaped offering a tougher carry. This hole has been made less tricky. Other changes: back tee of #2 used as back tee for par 4 9th. Now 405 yards to a wider landing area but longer second shot. Several rebuilt tee boxes including the par 4 6th. A new fairway bunker has also been added on the right of this longer hole. It is natural in appearance and angles golfers away from the OB on the right. Excellent changes, Simi Hills. I recommend this course.

Oh Simi Hills, you remember her like a distant memory of a crazy ex girlfriend. Sometimes you go and shes so beautiful and plays so well, then there was a day like yesterday.... Strike one was the fact that no one told me when I reserved the tee time that two of the par fours were temporarily par threes, and half-assed at that. Strike two was the 3.5 hours it took to finish the first 9 holes. Strike three was when we skip the slow groups at the turn (while they are all at picnic tables eating) and start playing quickly, we get a lecture from the Marshall about playing faster since were well behind the group in front of us (who was actually about three groups in front of us). Well we hit the strikeout limit but there is still more, half of the tee boxes were as lumpy/bumpy as my back yard and the grass was about as tall. The greens were inconsistent and squishy as they get, at one point I put my hand flat on the green to get a feel for it and noticed my hand print stayed there for the entire time we were on the green. Bottom line, Simi hills has been ok at times in the past but after this last outing it will be a while before I risk spending $55 to play there again.

Played Simi Hills Golf Course on 5/26. The course was in good shape. The fairways and rough were lush providing excellent lies. The greens were mostly smooth and slow yet held iron shots like darts. Tee boxes, decent, mostly level with some divot damage…the new tee box on hole 6 looks fantastic although. Regarding the bunkers, they could use better quality sand and bit more turning. Overall, I was pleased with the playing conditions.

Simi Hills Golf Course is a track I have played easily over 50 times. It’s a short course yet demanding. Being a Ted Robinson design, the course’s main line of defense is the green complexes which are heavily guarded by deep bunkers that will make or break your score. If you do hit the greens, get ready for some slopping putts. Missing greens can result in a difficult kikuyu grass lies. Off the tee, you better keep the ball straight because there is plenty of OB, water, and fairway bunkers to content with. From the tee, be prepared to work the ball left-to-right and right-to-left around large trees and hazards. In general, I think it’s a fantastic layout because if you hit the ball well, you can really score but get a bit wild off the tee…its going to be a long day. It also offers a wide variety of holes where pounding driver can hook you up but on quite a few holes, driver is the last club you want to use. This is a mostly level course (with exception to holes 3 – 6) and the tee boxes are closely stationed from hole-to-hole so its conducive to walking.

This is a great time to get out and try/or return to Simi Hills Golf Course.
