After Rolling Hills I drove to Chico to play Bidwell Park a course I have not played in over 50 years.

This is truly a great public course that has stood the test of time. I know 9 holes opened in the 30's but no idea about the back 9.

Really two different 9's. Front very flat with little elevation changes but a back 9 with strong par 4's, great par 3's, elevation changes and beautiful setting in Bidwell park up against the hills.

Course does show its age in some ways. Older fairways that don't always give you a good lie + a good bounce on your kidneys in the fairways. So the carts are not the newest by any means.

Small greens that will test your game all round and while not big they are fast. And many greens elevated from the fairways and bunker guarded.

Older tee boxes that could use some leveling. But playable.

Fairways guarded by large trees and Chico creek that can ruin a drive. Or 2nd, or 3rd shot.

Traps are not the best but just OK.

Yes it is an older course but its got great bones and the layout is terrific.

Its a course that golfers who like tradition should play and one that they will not soon forget.

Played here today on my birthday. And yes they have a birthday program. Free. I was not aware of it but when I stated it was my birthday they just handed me the key.

The previous reviews while old are correct this course is a beast. But only if you play from the wrong tee boxes. And it is not walkable.

A truly beautiful layout in the rolling hills of Corning CA with the coastal mountains to the W and towering Sierras to the E.

Course is minutes off I 5 at Exit 628. Highly recommended. And of course its a casino with a hotel

Green green amongst the golden fields of rough waiting patiently for you to feed them.

The layout is stunning. Five par 3's of different lengths and green sizes. 5 par 5's of various lengths with elevation changes and doglegs challenging you to hit over the waiting rough. Thats the back 9. Standard front 9 of 2 3's, 2 5's and 5 4's.

The designs of these holes are wonderful. Short, long, intimidating, challenging and beautiful to look at.

Beautiful large manicured tee boxes.

Large wide lush fairways providing great rollout and wonderful lies all day. With lots of elevation changes and plenty of side hill and above feet lies to challenge your game.

Rough that you never want to go in. If you don't find your ball and you won't they might not find you? Or a rattle snake might. Heard many during the round when I approached a couple of areas early but none after that I knew better.

Sad to say rain, wind and lack of work on the traps was the one remaining demerit of the course. No idea why the traps looked this way but most of them were not playable.

Great large greens with plenty of slope and undulations to make any player take notice and really really focus on making a good putt. Speed at 12 so 3 putts were waiting.

Wonderful customer support in the shop.

World class carts with an amazing GPS.

Great driving range and practice putting greens at clubhouse and 1st tee.

And the greatest deal of ever. $4.99 regular gas at the service station.

Any golfer passing through should stop and play. You won't be disappointed.

It's almost always windy but if you don't mind playing late Golf Now seems to have one 3:30ish tee time a day for less than $30 with cart. Highly recommended and glad to call it my home course.

Great round this morning 6/1/26 riding with buddies Ron and John joined by gker Richard who was a pleasure to meet and play with. Group 1b under beautiful 75 degree weather with about 1.5 clubs of wind today. Our Pop was around 5 hrs keeping up with the group ahead. They had their downhill range on mats and had a nicely sloped putting green nearby the 1st and 10th tees. My seco... » More

Great round this morning 6/1/26 riding with buddies Ron and John joined by gker Richard who was a pleasure to meet and play with. Group 1b under beautiful 75 degree weather with about 1.5 clubs of wind today. Our Pop was around 5 hrs keeping up with the group ahead. They had their downhill range on mats and had a nicely sloped putting green nearby the 1st and 10th tees. My second time here as I played a while ago in 2008 with a buddy. Really enjoyed the layout which is tight in places but looks tighter off the tee vs when your in the fairway you realized you had a little more room to operate. Found many tee shots you are hitting over a rise to a hidden fairway in the distance. A bit more dogleg left to rights here at Spanish Hills. Plenty of greenside bunkers, fairway bunkers and out of bounds to keep the best players honest. They also have a couple water features on holes 10 and 18.

The greens were in great shape very quick true rolls. Would say close to a 11 on the stimp but holding irons nicely. Surprisingly a bit more undulating then they look on approach. Rated 9/10. Star of the course.

Fairways were in above average shape with most all lies in the fairway padded nicely with some minor brown grass here and there but mostly green lush lies. Rated 7.5/10

Tees level and in above average shape. Rated 7.5/10

Was in greenside bunkers on #13 and #16 that contained firmer clay like sand with enough base to hit out of. Rated 7/10

Not much rough on this course and it varied in length depending what hole you were on. Found the rough about a foot or so off many fairways and the lies were great. Rated 7/10

Looked like the facilities were nice and all staff encountered were friendly. The proshop was small but adequate. They did have a snackshop/bar on the range which was pretty cool. Views from the golf course especially the back nine were amazing. If you have an opportunity to play here jump on it. Recommended.

Greens were punched/sanded about a week ago, medium speed and bumpy compared to normal here. Probably 7-10 days from being smooth and quick again. Fairways/Tees very nice with the Bermuda out in full force with warmer temps. Greenside traps really nice, fairway traps have more rocks than I remember from years ago. Fringes mowed down, which is not a good thing on the many holes ... » More

Fringes mowed down, which is not a good thing on the many holes with false fronts or drop offs from on or coming across greens. But do provide more bump run opportunities when short sided from just off many greens. Many areas of the course have been vericut, which does not affect playability. Rough patchy hit/miss, mowed low. Range, carts, GPS excellent. Restaurant/men's lounge provides decent food in a friendly atmosphere. Recommended overall in spite of the current so-so greens, but play Mountain instead until about June 10th.
