Played a second round yesterday at Bali hai. This is the third time I've played here and today's conditions were a little bit of a let down. We did score a rate of 55 for 3pm but the course is getting ready for overfeeding in a week so the course was a little scrappy. Fairways and greens cut extra short and were very fast. I had a few balls roll out of the fairway into the washes. The course has about 7 unique holes and 11 that are almost exactly the same. For a rate of 55 I was happy but any more would be a let down.

What an amazing course. If you get the chance to play this track, by all means take advantage of it. This is one of the best courses I have played in Las Vegas and I wish I had played it sooner. It can be a bit pricey but the late afternoon summer rates makes it a lot more affordable. The driving range itself is a bit odd. As there isn't a lot of extra space on the strip, they have built a hitting cage with about ten bays and 30 or so yards deep. It's long enough that you can at least get an idea of what the shot would look like. There are also ceiling fans above each bay. The hitting surface is turf and as far as mats go they are nice but I am not a fan of hitting off mats. Since I was a single, the starter offered to let me go off the back 9 since there were a couple of foursomes that had just gone off the front. To me, the things that make the difference between a good course and a great course are things like level tee boxes, plenty of drinking water, comfort stations and this course had it all. The tee boxes were nicer than a lot of fairways and weren't torn up. Even the par 3's weren't full of divots. The fairways were generous and there were hardly any divots. This course is set up like any other resort course. On each side of the fairway, there are mounds that help bring the ball back into the fairway. The greens roll exactly like the practice green. They are pretty fast and roll exactly like you read them. They aren't so fast that you will putt it off the green but you won't have any trouble getting the ball to the hole. They are really receptive and hold great. The best piece of advice I could offer is to pay attention to the elevation changes into the green on your approach shot. It will definitely make the hole play a half club longer. This course plays about 7,000 yards form the tips and plays every bit of it. I hit almost every club in my bag. Some holes were driver wedge and then some were driver 5 iron. It's a great track and I definitely want to play it again soon.

Conditions of the course were really good.. from the tee boxes to the greens.. Greens were probably the best i've played on. I felt tho that the fairways were dry.. super firm had to adjust angle of attack since i couldn't take big divots.
The customer service was unreal.. from the moment I got there, to the moment i left. Their staff was really good. You get some awesome awesome views of the casinos there. and nothing better than the signature island green par 3 16th..

Dislikes

You can't have a world class resort course with no driving range and chipping green. They really went south with no actual driving range. A 50 yard net that you hit into is not what i was expecting out here. The course layout was just meh for me.. I got spoiled by all the PGA West courses in palm springs lol.. but yea the layout was just meh.. a lot of straight forward super long par 4s.. short par 3s.. The WORST part about this course is the fact that is right next to the airport... you have airplanes taking off every 5 minutes and its just the most annoying thing.. and the freeway is also next to the holes and helicopters going around.. there is just a lot going on. Location sucks.. location alone needs to nock off $100 off the price..

Anyways I still had a great time.. Enjoyed my day out there.. check this course off my bucket list.. probably would look into another course to play in vegas like Paiute.. but definitely a course anyone should play at least once!

Played in a tourney on an unbelievably perfect weather day in Vegas on Friday, 2/13/15 – clear, sunny, mid-70s, no wind. The course is in very good condition, with lots of service before, during and after the round. Bag drop, cart attendants, and starter know what they are doing. Maintenance workers were present on many holes and were aware of player locations and hitting. Cart girls are friendly and know how and when to approach groups. Overall a classy operation. Good food in the snack shop at the turn.

Greens were very good - smooth, medium fast, rolled perfectly, although they were a little too firm to hold full shots. Some greens had almost no marks, while others had quite a few. Fairways were thin and firm but had good coverage with only scattered spots where turf was so thin that the ball sat down. Rough was either bare sand or manicured grass cut at 1-2 inches and very playable. Traps were generally soft around the margins and firmer in the middle, with a good but thin playing layer. A couple of traps had better sand depth. Tees were generally big enough and flat, but some were set up very narrow and had a lot of divot damage.

Silver tee slope (6,156 yards/68.6/113) looks too low for course conditions. The par 3s here are fairly short, and there are only 3 par 5s (par is 71). Length is found in a number of hefty par 4s – six holes ranging in length from 407 to 450(!) yards and course handicaps 10 and lower. Traps are deep with steep lips.

Recommended. Rack rates during the winter season are very high.

Got comped to play here today and I must say that this place is pretty cool to be in the strip. The tees and fairways where super lush and the greens where very well manicured. The sand is a powder like sand that will throw you off if you and prepared for it. To those who complain about the noise need to realize that they are in the strip! Into the conditions the course was in tip top shape and the customer service was A+. The only thing missing was a driving range although they had a hitting may with automatic ball loaders?! Also if you complain about the price think if this you will sit a a slot/table and lose 2-400 in about an hour here u get 4 hrs for the same price plus memories.

The greens were still sandy from recent aeration, but putted true.
It's a resort style course that is friendly off the tee and most hole are banked with hills on either side. Unless your way off they help the ball come back toward the fairway, except hated those little planter holes for every tree. Your ball can get caught in them, so you have to check every tree hole as well as the rough if you're off the fairway.

Tee boxes: Very good
Fairways: Very good
Greens: OK (sanded)
Bunkers: Very crappy! Looks like good whitee sand, but feels like hard dirt ground.
Course layout: Good fun.
Value: OK, for $99 afternoon rate.

I love the transition from the white sand into the water. And the contrast of the dormant bermuda. If your in Vegas and you have time to golf. Play this course. Its a beautiful layout. Played 11/3/12 at 8AM. Their driving range is auto loader with giant netting. (Range Mat has a hole with rubber tee sticking out and when you hit the ball or roll one off, tee will go down and load up another golf ball). Not a typical range you normally see. They have large putting green with about 5 holes so if you're just looking to roll few putts to gauge the speed, you have plenty of room even during busy times. Starter ran through local rules and young lady took our photos which you have option of purchasing at the end of the round for $20. Similar to many of the other courses in the area, this course was also in the late stages of transition period from the over seeding. Tee boxes were probably the worst aspect of the course. It was pretty bare on many of the holes. This was an issue for one of our player on all par 3's since he doesn't tee the ball so bare area played similar to packed bunker to him. It didn't affect other players. Fairways were in overall good shape with very minor transition issues (Rye has grown out full but bermuda was dormant so ball will sit in a small hole/slot making the shot little more difficult). Bunkers were very soft but it was very consistent and in great condition. Greens were in 2 shades of color (Bermuda and Rye over seed) so it didn't look as pretty but putted true and smooth. It was receptive and overall in great shape. Bali Hai is a fantasy golf land for high rollers so even though fairways are pretty narrow, it is banked towards the middle so its fairly forgiving. With the collection of hundreds (maybe thousands?) of palm tree lined fairways, you can easily mistake that you're in some sub tropical area. The collection of the par 3's here are one of the best I've played. Combination of variety of yardage, elevation, and beautiful vista, all the Par 3's really stood out. Layout is pretty interesting but they are somewhat cramped together so some wild shots can end up in your fairways so be careful when people are teeing off. Course was very busy with first tee box packed with 2 to 3 sets of foursomes waiting to tee off so you may want to avoid those times if you want to play quickly. Since we got out at 8AM, we finished before noon. This is my 2nd time playing here and given the opportunity, I love to play here as long as I don't have to fork over 3 Benjamins.

Played Bali Hai 7/2/12. This is an addendum to the review I submitted on 7/9. When I played greens had been punched a couple of days prior and were in very rough condition. After I submitted my review, I did receive an e-mail, through GK, from a representative at Walters Golf, in Las Vegas. The Representative was very apologetic about the conditions and offered a credit to me, for my next visit. I was very impressed that someone took the time to read the review and to make a strong effort toward satisfying the customer. You know GK and the GK community is working when course personnel start reading reputable and honest reviews, and try turn a somewhat negative experience, into a positive one. I will go back, given the efforts made by the staff at Walters Golf and Bali Hai. THANK YOU!
