I had bought the GN Deal Caddy voucher, good for a round any day after 9:30. For just $26, it was a deal that's impossible to beat this time of year in Vegas. I had booked a 10:04 tee time, but it really wasn't that busy. I ended up going off around 9:35, paired with a couple and another single. There were mainly twosomes just ahead of us and somebody in that bunch was gumming up the works a little. We had to wait on most shots, but the total pace was still fine at 4.5 hours.

The course was in fine overall shape, playing better than it looked. They only overseeded the tee boxes and greens (and maybe some spot overseeding here and there in fairways). Tee boxes were generally good, if not a little shaggy still. The fairways are primarily bermuda that is just starting to go dormant. Right now it is a good pad and provides great lies to hit from, so we'll see how well it holds up through a Vegas winter. The rough is also bermuda that's kind of matted down. Most times the ball sits up nicely. Sometimes it digs in and makes the recovery a bit tougher. The greens were very soft, slow and bumpy. Give them a few more weeks as the grass fills in better. I wasn't in any greenside bunkers. They appeared pretty thin and crunchy from what I could see. I was in one fairway/waste bunker on the 18th hole and it was very heavy coarse sand that was difficult to play from.

This is a decent course that just feels a little run-down, partly because they didn't do a full overseed. I ended up liking the layout more than I expected to (I liked the layout here more than Stallion Mountain). It seemed to get more interesting as the round went along, but overall it's just an average course. A few very memorable holes like 4 and 9, though. Solid overall design with just enough challenge and diversity to keep you interested. We played the gold tees, but the guys in front of us were playing the tips and we could tell how much stepping back would amp up the challenge on many of the holes here.

They did recently add disc golf here (36 holes, I think, with baskets scattered throughout all 18 holes of the regular course). Though I do like playing disc golf a lot, I'm not a fan of intermingling it on a real golf course (same goes for foot golf). The baskets kind of detract from the aesthetics, especially since many of them are positioned right behind the greens. It seems they only allow disc golf at certain times in order to minimize the dangers of both versions being played at the same time. This is the first time I've seen it on a full regulation course with full-time baskets out, so it's an interesting experiment. From a disc golfer's perspective, it looks like a pretty interesting layout and a bit scary at times with baskets positioned uncomfortably close to several water hazards! : )

This is overseeding time in LV and it's hard to find a decent course to play. Wildhorse is in very good shape as its overseeding does not start for about three weeks.
Because of all the humidity we have had recently, the course is playing soft. The greens are a little long so they won't burn out which means they are slow. Keep it in the fairway as the rough is quite wiry and the ball sits down.
Green fees are very reasonable -- $45 with lunch and 65+ is only $30 plus two drinks. Great bargain. Grass driving range and 25 balls for $3, just enough to loosen up before you play. Restaurant is so-so. But there is a snack shop at the turn and the cart girl was around even though we started so early. Pace of play was also good -- less than 3.5 hours and the groups were well spread out.
Fairly challenging course. A few holes with water and the rough is quite wide so you have to hit it really bad to get into the desert area.
One of the better places to play at this time of year.

Played Friday, 1/4, with a 8:30 tee time. Frost delay pushed back our start until 10, with the earliest times starting after 9. Course staff did a great job managing the delay, starting us on 16, and finishing right at 4 hours.

Customer service started off on a bad note, as the golf shop guy berated my buddy for making a 830 tee time with a Groupon offer (4some for $100) that was valid only after 10. Maybe he's just a loud talker, but the tone and volume was a little much even after all of us apologized for overlooking the time. However, his female co-worker in the shop was great, and everyone else was outstanding, from the starter to the "course host" to the cart barn guys.

Course is in good condition for winter, with the exception of #17. Fairways were firm with plenty of good lies and very little divot damage. Greens were firm and medium/fast. A few seem inconsistent, but that may of been due to the early morning frost. Only a few unrepaired ball marks were seen. I can't comment on the sand bunkers, as none of us were in them today (!). The rough is dormant bermuda, giving the course that green/tan look to it. Even if you were off the very narrow fairways, you had a decent lie, with very few dead areas. Now #17. This is the 4th time I've played here in 2 years, all fall or winter, and #17 have always been bad. It's like that 1 spot of your yard that never grows no matter how much work you put into it. Today, the fairway was completely dormant. I guess they decided not to overseed it, as it never took in the past. 17th green is fine, just the rough and fairway.

Good practice areas. The range is all grass with plenty of targets. The practice green is terrific with a variety of putts and consistent with the greens on the course.

Overall, a good course. A steal at $25 per player with the Groupon, but typical of Vegas courses this time of year, a little steep for residents ($40/$52 weekday/weekend), and not worth the $59-$79 for non-residents.

I played Wildhorse twice in the past week (Sunday 11/6 and Saturday 11/12) to use the last of my expiring $25 green fee groupons. Customer service has been great. Everyone from the golf shop to food and beverage to the outdoor services are very friendly and seem genuine. You are met at the bag drop and driven to your car after the round. Drink cart blazed around the course, seemed like we saw her every 2 to 3 holes.

Driving range is all grass and is downhill. Course is short, but with many doglegs and tight fairways. 5 Par 3s, and I hit 4 different clubs, from a 9 iron to a 3 wood. Rough is Bermuda grass and has gone dormant, so you get that green/brown contrast that I think looks great. They recently cut the rough down and the ball runs fast through it. If it's heading to 1 of the 7 water hazards, it's likely getting wet. Fairways were in good condition with a few exceptions. GUR on a couple of holes, and 17 is a mess (did not take overseeding so it's dirt/mud). They just replaced/filled the sand in the bunkers. White and fluffy, the ball just pops out of it. Greens were fast and firm, but held shots that had spin. Only a few unrepaired ball marks.

Course was backed up on Saturday, and we got around in 5 hours, it was 4 1/2 on the previous Sunday. Wildhorse is one of the oldest courses in the Vegas area and has lots of history (once hosted a PGA Tour event in the 70s and owned by Howard Hughes). Regular green fees are comparable with other muni/public type courses.

Played on Saturday, 10/15, with a 12:30ish tee time. When I got to the end of the long driveway in, I saw a parking lot full of cars, and people everywhere. Thought I was in for a long day. Waited on a lot of holes, but still finished in just over 4 hours, 10 minutes off the pace on the scorecard. Customer service was wonderful. Cart guys, pro shop, and starters were all cheerful and sincere. Nice grass driving range, it's downhill, so it's a pre-round confidence booster. Nice putting green, with plenty of different rolls to practice.

Course was in good shape. Fairways were nice and lush. Greens were firm, and medium/fast speed. Not a lot of ball marks. The rough varied. Thin in some spots, thick and nasty in other spots. A few bad spots: the fringe/collar around the #3 green, and parts of the #17 fairway were just bare.

Wildhorse is a nice "muni" course. A little short if you play from the tips (6500 yds), but challenging for the rest of us. Water on 7 holes, including the beautiful par 3 #4, and "mess with your mind" #9. Quite a few dog legs, but only a few blind shots. Wildhorse offers Groupon deals a few times a year for $25-30 a round, which I used today. It's well worth it, at those prices, I don't think it matches the $50-80 county/rack rates.

Found a great deal for this place on golfnow.com. The temperature was about 45 degrees and the course was empty when I arrived about noon. Went out as a single but joined up with a guy on number 4 and we flew through 18 in just over 3 hours. Fairways were in nice shape while the rough dormant. You need to drive the ball straight here because all the fairways are super narrow. The greens and tee boxes were also in good shape. I cant believe I only paid $22 to play this place!

Played Sunday, 1/30, with a 10:00 tee time for $30 from a groupon deal. First time playing this course, which is now owned by the City of Henderson. It has been through almost a dozen names/owners, and once hosted a PGA event in the 70s, the Sahara Invitational. It still has a country club feel, with a long driveway and big clubhouse. Course was not busy today, with 2s and 3s teeing off as we arrived. The perimeter holes are lined with homes, but far enough back that they are easily avoidable. Course is Par 70, 6500 from the tips, 6000 from "gold," but feels longer due to narrow fairways.

Wildhorse has a decent grass driving range, large putting green with plenty of variety of putts (uphill, downhill, double breaks), and a nice chipping/sand area with multiple holes.

The fairways were green and in pretty good shape. They did not convert the rough during overseeding, so the bermuda was brown/dormant and thin. There was lots of roll to be had, and with the winds today (over 20mph sustained), the ball had to be played down. About half of the fairways are lined with mounds, so you can get a kick back into the fairway.

The greens were firm and fast. #3 was in bad shape. Tee boxes were nice, level, and no bare spots. Pace was great, we finished in 4 1/2, and we let a 3 play through.

Even with the wind, the course was fun. I would play it again for $30-$50. The par 3 4th is beautiful, with a tee shot that has to carry all water. The 9th is a dogleg right, with water on both sides of the fairway, and in front of the green. Water comes into play on about 7 holes.

Last reviews here are over a year old and I didn't see the same course they saw when I played 10/7/10. A nice muni, course was in decent shape, nice fairways and greens, not real bumpy at all. They have adopted the limited watering policy here as the rough is a combo green and desert brown. Tight fairways and a good track for some desert golf at less then $50. Cart girl was by at least 4 times.

Hands down the worst golf course I have ever played!!! The fairway on hole #1 was covered in manure and pigeons. There was more sand on the greens then in the bunkers. The staff had no clue what was going on. We made the turn to notice that the starter had put 2 walking groups of duffers in front of us and had the play the crummy front 9 over again. Next time I go to Vegas I will fork over the extra $50 to play a another course like Legacy. I would be ashamed if I was the Greenskeeper and or Director of Golf at Wildhorse....place is a compelet joke at $45 for twilight...can't believe they hose people for almost a $100 on Sat/Sun. Do yourself a huge favor and don't go anywhere near that dump of a golf course!
