Played here Tuesday with a 12:21 TeeOff.com "Deal" time. Starter was great and despite a frost delay that pushed everyone back, he fit me into a group with another single and a twosome and we teed off right at 12:00. At 4:00 a message popped up on the GPS that the course closes at 4:30 (sunset time) and all carts need to be in by then. Luckily we finished with just about five minutes to spare. Busy course and windy weather probably didn't help pace of play, but no complaints with 4:25.

Conditions are mixed, especially the greens, which are inconsistent. It seemed like some were in really nice shape, and others were a step or two down. Overall, they rolled pretty decent, though, and held full shots well. Medium speed, I'd say. Fairways were dormant bermuda that I couldn't tell if they were actually light green or had a colorant added a while ago. They were very tight and didn't provide much cushion under the ball. The rough was also dormant bermuda, but yellow and a couple inches deep. Gold (white equivalent) tee boxes were okay (although I'll get back to this in a minute) and the bunkers I was in were pretty hard packed. Overall conditions are mediocre but very playable.

This was my first time playing here. I had always heard about how quirky the course was, but I guess I misinterpreted in what way it's quirky. It's expected a target golf course but it's much more straightforward than I imagined, and surprisingly for a Vegas "housing tract" course, there are a handful of holes that don't have houses on them. Where I found quirk was in some of the tee box placements that feel like they don't fit the hole. On at least one hole, we were all wondering where the hole went. Some serious tree trimming on a few holes might help that. It reminded me a bit of nearby Legacy and Stallion Mountain, but I think I'd prefer to return to one of those before riding "the Horse" again. Happy to have checked it off the list!

Played on Friday, 2/17, with a 7:51 tee time and joined by famed and my buddy Mike B. Paid $60 county resident rate. Course is one of the few where you can still find a tee time less than a week out. I went a couple years without playing here but have now teed it up at least once a month during the winter. Course was busy but I think it was mostly frisbee golfers getting in a practice round before this week's big tournament (more on that). We finished sub 3:30, including a long stop at the turn for food. Course has dormant but painted fairways and tee boxes. Tee boxes are level with little amount of damage. Fairways are firm with plenty of roll. Rough is non-painted dormant with some occasion winter grass mixed in. Bunkers have been improved with new sand since I played at the beginning of the year. Mostly fluffy, but the green side on 15 was thin. Greens ran smooth but slower than they have been. Overall, a decent playing experience. Wildhorse is a muni, owned by the city of Henderson, with a long history: 5-6 name changes, a PGA Tour event, etc. The clubhouse still has that 70s feel, food & beverage prices are pretty good for a golf course, and the course is extremely walker friendly. It's also an Audubon Society certified Sanctuary, which can be seen around the trees and ponds on the course. It's not a destination course by any means, but it's a good locals track and may be worth a try if you have time. **Course is closed 2/19-2/26 for the Las Vegas Classic, a huge Frisbee golf tournament. Apparently, the Wildhorse Frisbee golf course is the premier course in the country. They only allow Frisbee golf in the first 45 minutes of the morning and after 3:30p, so you usually don't see them around.

Started on hole #12 in 43 degrees that later warmed to low 60s. Partly cloudy day, but only 5 miles an hour winds so it was good.
The fairways were okay, nothing terrible, and it ran well with not much divots.
The greens were nice and rolled true. I just couldn’t read them well. It’s probably about 9.75 to 10.0 on a stimp.
The bunkers mostly has no sand (where my partner got in (i was not in any).
The rough in some areas were thick but more short and consistent in the 2-3 inch with occasional thin/bare spots.
Teeing ground were okay. Some bare spots and many divots but you can still find good spots to tee it.
All in all the course is fun and not difficult at all. There were a few doglegs that you won’t be able to see the fairway but not bad.
Fun course.

Played Wednesday, 6/29, 6:15 tee time, with the Cocky&Lucky crew, joined by our youngest member, 11 year old Taco. They had us let a 2some out in front of us and we cruised around in a quick 3:05.

Course is in good shape considering we're in the dog days of summer, with 100+ temps for over the last month. Tee boxes were nice and level, with some divots on the par 3s. Fairways were firm and fast, with plenty of coverage, and just a handful of brown/thin areas. Rough was mostly just above fairway levels, giving it definition, but there was areas of thicker, gnarly Bermuda rough which gave the clubhead some issues. The only bunker I was in was still wet from the morning watering, but the others looked raked with some sand. I'm going to rate the greens based on the back 9, since we caught them after maintenance. Those greens were medium fast, receptive (a definite THUMP could be heard on shots), and smooth. The front 9 looked faster than they were rolling, maybe we caught them before they were cut, but if they were all back 9 quality, they were great. Greens were aerated on 6/21 and there are no signs of it.

WildHorse has a very long history: 6 different names, PGATour stop, and now owned by the city of Henderson and an Audubon Sanctuary program course. I wished I lived closer and could play here more often. The course is fun and a bit challenging, with a mix of short and LONG par 4s and challenging par 5s. The par 3 14th tips out at 252(!) and is a beast with water all along the right. While not a destination course, Wildhorse should be considered if you're looking for a nice economical course to fit in.

I revisited this course a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 3 years. An it's come a long way!

Before the pandemic, this course was in rough shape and I had given up on it. Wildhorse used to be on the PGA Tour years ago and it's a fun course to play, but there was a point where the fairways were muddy and bare.

Not now! Life has come back and for the price, its a no brainer.

The golf carts have an old GPS type system and no USB plug.

The driving range, putting green and chipping area are close to the club house. I really like this because you can do things, while you wait for the rest of the group to show.

The food area is simply standard and the starter will ask you for your receipt around 10 times before you actually tee off. Didn't see the cart girl til the 10th hole.

The rough will swallow your ball, so hit them straight.

The rest of the course was in great shape and I definitely recommend for the price. Don't skip this course.

Played Wild Horse Golf Club in Las Vegas 12/24, I had played there back around 2001 and place was mess, Can not believe they had the course re-done...it is like an up-scale Country Club now. Par 70 with everything you need for a great round....if your like me and played there back when it was so so give it another try it is on par with our Palm Springs courses now.....it was a Christmas miracle..

Happily paid $40 local rate as Wildhorse was the 1st tee time I found that wasn't 3pm or later when I started looking a week out. Vegas tee times are going fast. 3 of us walked and the other rode as he was waiting for a text that would of cut his day early (but never came). Played in just a shade over 4 hours, waiting on many shots, after the starter reminded us we had to keep up. Never saw the group behind us after the 1st hole.

Course was in pretty good shape as it works through the winter transition without closing. I'm a lover of firm and fast conditions and not impressed by overly watered courses. Wildhorse was playing fast and was lovely. Tee boxes mostly leveled with a little bit of divots on the par 3s. Fairways were fast and firm, lots of roll, but plenty of grass, it was just a lighter shade. Rough was minimal, just enough to define the fairways, a bit longer around the greens. Bunkers were decent, heavy sand that wasn't hard packed with a chance to hit from. Greens were really nice, smooth and firm, with minimum ball marks, and a little faster than they looked.

Wildhorse is one of those "Old Vegas" courses, tree lined with some houses around, and not a desert course. It has a ton of history and once hosted a Tour event (like 50 years ago). It's one of the few walkable Vegas course. An absolute locals course with a great practice area. I have never been past the pro shop to see if they have a grill but there is a nice snack shack right next to the 1st/10th tees. If it wasn't such a drive I would play the Horse more. Fun, challenging layout that isn't overpowered.

I'm guessing the black tees do not get a lot of play and the boxes show they don't get a lot of attention. Definitely needed to be cut but the other boxes did look well taken care of. Fairways were firm, with plenty of good lies, and the Bermuda is starting to show signs of going dormant. The rough is non existent which results in the ball running into overgrown areas. The green side bunker I found was hard packed and I just hit a normal chip out of it. Greens were in good shape, but running slower than they looked. Course has a an all grass driving range, a bunker/chipping area, and a large practice green with elevation changes. Wildhorse has a long history, one of the 1st courses in the Vegas Valley (1958), 6 name changes, and hosted a PGA Tour event in the 70s. It has an old school feel, including a 2nd story clubhouse bar/grill with patio over looking the course. Bar/grill prices are lower than typical courses. It's an Audubon Sanctuary and is not your typical Vegas course. The course is owned by the city of Henderson and while not a destination, it fills the a niche for locals. C19: single rider carts (w/GPS), no rakes, NO NOODLES!(but no touching the flag) Ball actually hits the bottom of the cup.

So the day began with the ornery lady at check in. I played with my two "juniors" and I seriously think that when I asked for the junior rate, which is FREE with a paying adult, she got mad. LOL. Don't know why, but whatever.

To further complicate things, my friend who had paid the full green fee of $40, had also purchased a glove and a "buy two get one sleeve" free, which cost $76.

When I told him that I had plenty of balls and he noticed he had a glove already, he went back in and got a refund. The ornery lady, got more upset, took his card, gave the refund and short of tossed his card back at him......Are they hurting for revenue?????

For those of you who sneak your out of town friends in, at the local rate, THEY CHECK EVERYONE'S ID. FYI.

The prices at the snack shop were pretty decent. The breakfast burritos are actually pretty tasty and $4.

The starter let us go out about 15 minutes early and we were greeted by the first hole's bare dirt spot at about the 200 yard area before the dog leg left. This was pretty standard on a lot of the holes. Lots of dirt and in many spots, it appeared as if there will be dirt in a short amount of time.

The par 3s were all in relatively good shape, except for the tee boxes.

About a year ago, I used to like playing this course every once in a while, until the Frisbee guys were all over the place. They seem to have moved those guys out in to the out of bounds areas and can't really see them anymore. That to me is an improvement.

The carts have old GPS technology and basically just give you distances to the hole. The carts also have USB chargers and nice coolers.

Someone, over the summer, told me that they had played here and that they had really turned around for the better. I actually think they have taken a turn for the worse.

The only good thing about Wildhorse right now is that, my son gets to play with me for free......I guess.....
