Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Last reviews here are over a year old and I didn't see the same course they saw when I played 10/7/10. A nice muni, course was in decent shape, nice fairways and greens, not real bumpy at all. They have adopted the limited watering policy here as the rough is a combo green and desert brown. Tight fairways and a good track for some desert golf at less then $50. Cart girl was by at least 4 times.
Nice course in SW Vegas and not a desert golf experience if that is what you are looking for. Not sure if I was a visitor this would be my choice but it's decent track. Straight forward course, hit it straight, stay out of the Bermuda rough and hope the winds don't kick up. Par threes are signatures here. More water on the course than you usually see in Vegas.
From the bag drop to the 18th green and everything in between this is a first class golf experience. Fast true greens, perfect fairways and tough Bermuda rough. If you are not used to Bermuda the rough is killer, you'll easily swing right under the ball, your club twisted all the way. Don't let the 128 slope fool you, this is not an easy course. With a little flexibility, locals can get a rate under $75....a steal at that price.
Oakmont East is the little brother exec course and a real nice one. Played two rounds October 9 and 10th (wife and new golfer!) and the greens and fairways are in perfect condition. I believe they just came out of aeration or overseeding. Runs about 4000 years and the greens are always lightning fast, this weekend, 9.1, but I've seen them over 11 before. Cost can be an issue here as weekend mornings are around $50.
Really nice little exec course. Well maintained, good customer service a nice change of pace when your time is limited. Just enough of a challenge to keep you interested or just use it to hone your par three skills.
Nice complex for a public course they treat you with some country club amenities: bags pickup up in the parking lot, cleaning your clubs after your round, ice container in your golf cart etc. If you haven't played desert golf you have no idea what you are in for. Keep it straight because desert is bad news here, the desert portion is not as manicured as some desert course I have seen and that makes for trouble....good luck finding your ball in a pile or rubble. By slope and rating it's an average course and it is....but only if you hit it straight. You will have the opportunity to hit over canyons if thats your thing.
By far the cheapest full 18 in Sonoma County, you can easily find rates for weekend riding in the $19-$39 range. Rough in sports and just kind of boring, in and out, straight and.....well you get the picture. Weird thing is this course always plays wet, they over water the hell out of it.
Driving range is mats only, large practice putting green and a chipping green. The practice sand trap is over by the lesson tee.

By far the nicer of the two Foxtail courses. Usually only $10 more then the South course, the North course is actually well maintained. More of a challenge than the up and back South course forcing using multiple clubs in your bag with well placed bunkers, water and doglegs.
I agree with the over watering comment below. Some of the watering problems are just plain aim of the sprinklers. Carts on the North have GPS install. Decent cart girl service. Decent value at $39-$49.
