Played today. What a beautiful new addition to St George. Terrific customer service from every employee. The course is host to the LPGA Epson tour annually. A wonderful design with lots of elevation changes. Huge greens that are showing the summer heat but still putted fine. Bunkers all playable. Nice bent grass fairways that had good roll and lies. Ugly tough rough to deal with. All good tee boxes. Nice new gas not electric carts that get up and go. Course is only a few miles from Sand Hollow in Hurricane. Add it to your rotation when playing in St George you won't be disappointed. Beautiful rental homes along the 11th fairway for you and the family or just the guys. Will be adding some pics later.

This course is relatively new to the St George golf scene. Underrated might not be the right word—as most reviewers give it very good marks. But it still flies under-the-radar. In fact, last Thursday (the last Thursday in May), there were only 8 golfers on the tee sheet. As a result, it feels like your own private course.

Except for 1 hole (11) there are no houses on the course and the layout has a good mix of long and short holes. Tee boxes were not always level, but the rest of the course is in great shape. The greens will be aerated next week.

Some prefer Copper Rock to Sand Hollow. Although I’d still rank Sand Hollow higher, the fact that there is some debate is a nice commentary re the quality if Copper Rock’s layout. And if you value quick play (we finished in roughly 2.5 hours) or enjoy playing without anyone else on the course, Copper Rock is a good bet.

If you're planning a trip out to St. George, this should be added to your list. Though newer, greens had decent structure and lots of undulation. Players who can generate enough spin can stop irons on the greens in about one to two hops. Same goes for chipping. Average golfer beware, a lot of your shots will run on you so adjust for that.

As are all the courses in St. George and Mesquite, the wind can wreak havoc here. We teed off at 7:30 and still had 20-30+ MPH winds. Hitting shots astray leaves you in the desert but, in most cases, you can find your ball and play out.

You're playing in a little bit of altitude here and desert conditions so your ball will travel longer.

Lots of blind shots, having some sort of GPS device will be helpful. Best advice I can say, is like any challenging and new course, best to keep everything in front of you. If you're a longer hitter and appreciate those risk to reward shots, there are a few par 4's that can be drivable and the par 5's are reachable in 2. You do need to pay attention to the greens and their structure though because even if you have a putt for eagle, it's not really that wise if it's one of those crazy, twisty, undulated putts. You might be better off controlling a short iron in.

We saw the cart girl about a half dozen times so we felt she was around enough. Practice area and 1st tee are a ways away from the parking lot and starter's office. Not sure if this matters, but carts are gas powered (as opposed to electric) and have windshields.

Scenery, like all the other St George courses is stunningly spectacular. I think it would be even more so while the sun was setting. Really fun course to play, some holes have elevated tee boxes so that's always fun. I'd definitely come out and play again.

Played Copper Rock this morning, 2nd two-some out on a gorgeous day. Copper Rock had been on my bucket list for awhile, since I found out some extended family would be moving to the area. I hadn't heard much about this property except that everything is new and still being built. As we drove our car into the lot, a cart guy came over checked us in and helped us learn the course, literally hadn't even taken my cleats out of my bag. I went in and paid, to a small club house with a few tables for food and some gear being sold in the corner(everything is brand new). The rack rate at this time is $120 a pop, however I am firm believer that this course is worth every penny. The place is beyond stunning from a visual standpoint. At times when you are elevated you can peer to the north east and Zion is lurking in the background, takes your breath away. The course as a contrast to those mountains is stunning, plush, and well maintained. There must have been 12 guys working different parts of the course this morning, all as nice as can be, and aware we were hitting so they could move or turn off their machines. Heated bathrooms located in three areas around the course. Drinking water out of a cooler(old school style) on almost every hole. Newer propane carts with GPS and food ordering abilities. A great practice facility that would rival some private courses.
As far as this course layout goes we played from the Blues, a par 72 6270 yards with water on a few holes and traps strategically placed. The front nine is flat and long, with some wide fairways and large greens, while the back goes to some elevation changes and some scenic shots and even larger greens.

The tee boxes are in great shape, 8/10, maybe a few needed some regrowth but very level. The fairways are the best I have played in some time, 9/10. The greens for the most part are good, there were a few with some winter burn still recovering and some edges were being worked on, 7/10. The greens on some holes are very long and narrow. The starter told us to be 1 club short as the greens are tough to stop your ball on, this piece of advice was spot on, as these greens are hard but are not lighting fast. The sand traps are awesome, rakes are back, soft and fluffy white sand, 9/10. The rough is what you want rough to be, but not impossible, 8/10.

Copper Rock is setting up to host a Symetra LPGA event in a few weeks and I am sure that had a lot to do with the conditions and the maintenance. However, I was so impressed by how nice and receiving this place made me feel. Everyone is kind and helpful. There are homes being built all over, some on the course and some just outside the property. The future is very bright for Copper Rock, and I highly recommend this course if you are out this way.
