I played here on 6/28 during late morning. The course was fairly wide open for a Saturday. They have a great deal of $39 for all you can play during the summer.
Conditions of the course were fair to decent. The fairways had a large number of bare spots as did the greens. The condition of the fairways didn't affect play too much but the condition of the greens definitely did. Having to putt through large bare spots was a challenge.
I thought the course was very challenging. You definitely need to keep it in play. Room for error is at a minimum if you are off line with tee shots. The areas around the green have some areas for relief around them. Each hole is fairly different. Bunkers and hazards are all reachable when playing the appropriate tee box. It's a fun course but you need to be fairly accurate with both tee shots and approach shots.
The customer service is top notch as are the supporting facilities. For the price and proximity it's a good deal.

I played here 7/6/12. The layout is the first thing I have to mention. I love a course where no 2 holes are alike. I loved the variety and thought behind this course ! They give you a hole by hole layout book and you need it. It is a beautiful desert course with nice elevation changes, a fair amount of water and alot of trees and plants.The only warning is most fairways are narrow and missing the fairway can be very penalizing. In my opinion , I would hit whatever club keeps you in the fairway , even if your hitting long irons to the green. The greens are just coming back from aeration and were medium speed. The faiways were good but cut pretty thin. Rough was lush and about 2 inches. Bunkers had great sand. I got my tee time through Golfhub for $29 plus a $1.50 booking fee. When I checked in the pro shop , I was told if I called them with an internet deal , that they would match it with no extra fees. I will playing here again soon.

Played TPC Scottsdale Champions Course 5/22 with bmcnicoll and his brother Howie. Unfortunately I could only play 9 holes before I had to stop due to illness. TPC teed us off the back nine first and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having played the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course the day before, the Champions Course was in even better shape. The course was more lush and green plus the bunkers contained better quality sand. The greens were fast, smooth and held shoots. Overall I felt the course was in fantastic shape. Brian and Howie, as well as John (a single they paired up with us) were great playing partners. The service at the course was very accommodating and the staff was there to serve all of our needs. When I came in after 9 holes, they immediately asked if I’d like to rest and offered me a drink + aspirin. Although there was no place to lay down, the staff in the proshop said it would be fine for me to lay down on the proshop floor if I needed to. Back to the course, I thought the back nine layout was exceptional. Challenging yet fair off the tee. Beautiful green complexes with severely undulating greens that were very well protected by deep immaculately kept bunkers. Some fun risk reward par 5’s and demanding par 4’s. This course might be the little brother to the Stadium Course but it certainly stands up to it with its layout and its conditions surpass. I now see why the Champions Course has been voted by the members of Greenskeeper.org 3 times as being “Most Worth The Green Fee” in Arizona. I highly recommend playing this course.

We played today (with Johnny GK for 9 holes) for the first time since they re-designed it (when it used to be the Desert Course) in 2007 or so I think. Tee time of 6:40 a.m. arranged by Johnny GK. The course is a very good track, I think (as did my brother) that it is a far better course than it's more famous brother across the street (The TPC Stadium course). This course has a lot of character to it. The greens were accetpting of shots, pin placements were fair, although one or two were difficult, one would know where to hit it if one played it a few times. Greens were smooth, and running fairly quick for this time in the morning and you could read the breaks. There were a few with ball mark damage, but nothing really major. Fairways were very good, however on #'s 1 thru 4 and # 18 there were crews aerating the fairways, so that was not great. The workers would get out of your way when you were hitting a shot, but there were spots that you had to move your ball as the cores were still on the fairway. Bunkers were very good, had lots of fluffy sand so you had to adjust to that. Course was well maintained, cart girl was around every 4 holes or so. We finished in about 3 and a half hours and really didn't have to wait, and no one waited for us. I would certainly play this course again-I cannot say that for the Stadium course. Thanks for arranging the game Johnny, hopefully it wasn't our golf that made you unwell !! hahaha

Just wanted to leave a quick note as TPC Champions exceeded all my expectations. First off, the staff are warm and welcoming. From the bag guy, the proshop, the cartgirl, they all seem to appreciate you being there and want to make your visit special.

The condition of the course for August is incredible. I have golfed the troon courses and both Wildfire 18's in recent weeks and they pale in comparison. Since it is off season, some courses let it go as it isn't tourist-high season, but not TPC. I haven't golfed the stadium course but if this is the condition of the more economical one, I can't wait to play it.

Kudos TPC, I will recommend it to everyone!

This course has a great lay out and tons sand , im loving that fact that i can walk here and they really keep pace of play not to pushe but just right, Go check this place out you will enjoy your day oh and on 1 tee hit a hybrid or 3wood try to keep driver out of your hand its tighter then you think and its a really short hole so take advange of that and hit a short iron in to the great you will think me later when you hit a short iron from the fairway and hit this great looking green.

Wanted to play the day of 7/25. Paid $25+tax. Used an online site to get a rate. Then I called the course & asked if they would honor that price for my twosome. They said "sure we will." So I saved a booking fee & wasn't subject to the online restrictions, like I read that happened in an earlier review.

I played this course earlier this year in Jan. & got some photos of the front nine. I have some of the back nine to post. Gives a good contrast of Winter & Summer conditions.

I thought the course was in great condition overall. A few minimal hot spots, but that's nothing in the Summer. Fairways were lush. Rough was about 3 inches high. Easy to play out of, it gives you a juicy lie most of the time. Greens were smooth. Ran med/fast, 9-10. They still have some construction going on the cart paths on the back nine. Just follow the blue line. It's well rangered, they will guide the way. Finished in 4 hrs 15 mins. Challenging course! Hole #5 & #15 require a great tee shot. Still on my favorites list.

Played 6-5-09 in morning. Nice relatively cool day. Played for AZ resident rate. Not the best value for $70 but not the worst either. They are rebuilding the cart path on holes 1-4 so must dodge construction crews, equipment, etc. They are sticky about pace of play and the course is difficult, so not for inexperienced players. The ranger came around as many times as the refreshment cart making sure we didn't fall behind. This was a little tough on my teenage son.
The course has nice mountain views and all the hazards you can handle! Greens are contoured and coming out of aeration, so not super smooth like late summer or winter.
