Played December 26th, @ 11:09 we were paired with a couple. We booked on their website with a pre-paid rate of $135 We decided to play from the white tees, although they do have "combo" tees on the score card. They were starting on #10 the day we played. Greens were good to very good, would hold a shot and were smooth and medium-fast to fast speed. Some of the greens are undulating so be aware. No appreciable ball marks on the greens. Fairways were lush no severe divots, obviously some of the landing areas had some divot damage but most were filled with sand, the exception being where carts are restricted and most people, including myself, forget to take the sand bottles! Tee boxes were good, level and no divots to speak of. POP, we were advised was 4hrs 20 mins, we were done in 4 1/4 but the last 4 holes seemed to take forever to play. We had to wait on every hole, and the last 4 waited for what seemed an eternity. However all said and done 4 1/4 hrs to play was fine. I do like the layout of this track with some very interesting holes for sure. I try to play here every time I am in PHX area, but sometimes the prices are goofy. I checked out times at the beginning of December and the rate was $234. Good driving range with complimentary balls, and large putting area. The do have a practice chipping area fairly close to #9. If you are distracted by noise, the private jets from Scottsdale airport may bother you, they were leaving every 3-4 minutes for the entire front 9....but that doesn't bother me, and you will get used to it. No complaints about the course, staff were friendly, marshals were around, as was the bev. cart.

We got out as a foursome at 1:30 on Saturday the 15th. We used a friend’s TPC card for a $93 rate with all the amenities included.
It’s been a few years since I’ve played here and I was happy to play here again. The course conditions were great with really nothing to complain about.
The course will challenge you with no two holes playing the same. The greens were hard for me to get a good read on but that was my problem and not the greens’ fault.
Pace of play was a bit of an issue with the group in front of us but we were able to finish all 18. The two groups behind us may have finished but not much more beyond them.
Champions is a good play right now.

Played TPC Scottsdale Champions early Sunday morning paired with a threesome as one of the first few groups out. POP was perfect at 3:30. I've played here 3 times in the past 2 weeks. The course is in truly excellent condition all around. The greens are probably the best I've played in the PHX area recently. Firm, yet receptive to short iron shots, no bare spots, smooth, on the fast side of average for an upscale public course. Fairways were very lush due to the heavy overnight watering this course is given, there were many wet spots due to my early tee time but a person playing later in the day would probably not run into this. Bunker sand is perfect as usual. They are currently allowing solo rider carts. Pool noodles sitting about 1" below the edge of the cups. They are starting to put rakes back on the course. The only minor annoyance is that they have no drinking water on the course and since last week they put the coolers back on the carts and no longer let you bring your own cooler. You can put your own stuff in the cart cooler, but it only hold about 2-3 bottles of water. So, I had to stuff 3 extra water bottles in my bag and put my cooler back in the car. Would have been easier if I could have just shown them I didn't have booze in it or whatever and kept it with me. Free range balls as usual and the range tee turf was in perfect condition.

Played here twilight last night at 4:30. POP 2:15 The course reopened from it's maintenance. I can't say enough how much I love this course. It is definitely my home course. I know TPC Scottsdale is a love/hate course but don't allow the champions to fall into that category. It's a sweet track. Very fun to play. It's the perfect balance of fun and challenging in my opinion, blacks are a 137 slope. I think in probably 2 weeks it will be in awesome condition. Some of the sod is still settling in and there are some bare spots on a few areas but it is dramatically better than it was before the maintenance. The greens are nice. Firm medium/fast and rolling. Once they dry out and heal a little more they will be the firm glass I love. The bunkers here are epic as always. TPC top class crushed quartz/granite perfection with perfect lips. I almost enjoy hitting into them because you get to blast bunker shots out of the powder like the pros and spin it close. One sad not is they have added a 7 o'clock curfew :( Doesn't affect many, but I loved coming here late when it cooled off and play til dark but I do understand the economics of things.

Played here yesterday at 5 PM. Course is always wide open in the evening why I love it. I have the annual pass and this course is less then 3 miles away from me so after work I was playing here a lot. I didn't play here for a week and I am not sure what happened but the course condition on the front 9 took a nose dive. Not sure if they are doing maintenance, or a tournament went through, or the rapid weather changes had something to do with it but I was shocked. On the front nine there are a lot of bare spots. A few of the fairways were even flooded. The greens were dried out and were concrete firm. I hit a wedge that rolled off front to back. There were lots of ball marks and even dead spots on a few of the greens with no shade. The par 3 tee boxes were beat up, and the fairways had lots of divots. The back nine was pure like usual but a few of the greens were shaggy it was quite a shock from the front nine. I left a putt 15 feet short on No 10 because it must have been 2 - 3 lower on the stimp than the front. Staff is always super friendly. The cart boys are the best here I'm not sure what some of the other reviews have issues with. The sand is epic here as always (I'm a sand junkie) The sand doesn't get better than a TPC Course.

This is my new home track since I live 2.5 miles away This course is a sleeper. Reminds me of a Jack Nicklaus course since it is a true shot makers course. It gets neglected due to Stadium being across the street but this is the superior course in my opinion. If you love risk reward holes and reachable par 5's you will love this course. Course is in great condition. The greens are perfect medium fast however they are firm you better be able to spin it here. Chips run forever. Fairways are firm and fair. Bunkers are my favorite fluffy crushed granite all top notch courses must have. Right now you are going to see dead spots which is customary this time of year. I enjoy it because the course really eases you into your round. Starts off easy. Has a nice mix of different length par 3's which I enjoy Ranging from 120 to 220. (Too many courses have similar length par 3's which I feel is a letdown). I love the 2 x finishing holes. The 9th is an easy 3 shot par 5 or difficult 2 shot with the water element. The finish here is a bear and delight though. Number 15 may be my new favorite hole. Will you dare fly the desert to this 280 yard par 4 or layup? Then this course shows it's teeth with a bear of a 220 yard par 3 then a 600+ plus yard par 5. Culminating in a spectacular finishing par 4 dogleg left around a picturesque lake reminiscent of Pete Dye 18 at TPC Sawgrass. It's a fair playable desert track that's not too tight with different elements on each hole. A blast to play. The staff especially the cart boys couldn't be friendlier and accommodating.

Condition wise, Champions was a huge step down from Stadium. Tee boxes were level. Fairways were thinning and had some brown areas. Rough was about 1 inch, not difficult to hit out. Bunkers were a bit dried out, definitely not fluffy like Stadium. Greens were good. A little slower than Stadium, but smooth.

It definitely felt like the little brother, complete with hand me down carts (older, no GPS, no USB), and less love from "the parents." However, I loved the feeling around the clubhouse. They had a very nice patio area with a grill (Stadium is a sit down place and a half way house), lower prices, and incredible food (the burger I had was outstanding!).

My only complaint about the staff: We were booked as a 3some and 2some and a 2 was paired up. We checked with the starter beforehand and knew no one was behind us until a shotgun about a hour later. We let the added 2some played through on their own (they were happy about it), then joined up as a 5some at the 6th hole. We actually caught the 2some on 10, but no one behind us. 3 marshals drove past and didn't say anything. On the 16th green, a marshal stopped and berated us for playing as a 5. Yeah, and we finished in 4 hours, 10 minutes, no one behind us.

After finishing at Stadium, I headed across the street to Champions (yes, they have different clubhouses) where things are little more low-key it seems. I had a little time before my 1:50 tee time, so I went in the grille to get a "quick" bite. My turkey sandwich took about 20 minutes (actually, they forgot about my order amidst a big group of guys that had ordered ahead of me). It was tasty, though. They didn't have anybody slated to play with me, so I waited a few minutes and rejoined the same threesome of guys that I played with in the morning. We enjoyed a good overall pace of about 4 hours with minimal waiting. Champions was in good overall shape. The fairways, tee boxes and sand traps were all at the same high level as Stadium. They were watering a lot on the back nine, though, so there were a lot of very soggy patches. Where this course was weaker was in the rough. There were more dead patches here and a lot of places where they put in some new sod (like brand new). That was surprising since they are overseeding in less than a month, but I guess they want to get the pad of bermuda solid underneath again. Though the rough here was rather spotty in places, the main areas that come into play generally had good coverage. The greens were a let-down. As slow as they were at Stadium, they were even slower at Champions. Plus, they were still showing some signs of the most recent aeration, which made them rather bumpy. Overall well kept complexes, just not ideal surfaces right now and my rating reflects that. There were aspects of Champions that I liked more than Stadium. There are more trees and some of the holes are framed really nicely. There were a handful of holes I really liked, but overall the course didn't jump off the page and still felt like the "lesser" of the two TPC courses. The prices reflect this and the overall vibe around the clubhouse does, too. All in all, I'd say it's a very enjoyable sister course for a 36-hole day, but it's probably not a "must play" in the grand scheme of amazing Phoenix/Scottsdale golf courses.

Played at 7:51 am with my dad, uncle, and his dad. The rate for resident was $65 (good) and from there it wasn't good...it was great. The practice facility is top notch (I like this one better than Stadium) with a big range (free with tee time), large putting green and a decent chipping green between the 9th green and grill. The service was outstanding from bag drop to the cart girls to ranger. Our pace was decent but with a 70 yr old in this weather he struggled. Tom the ranger was pleasant and warned us twice but we finished under 4 hours and 20 minutes.

The conditions were amazing. Tees were clean, flat, filled divots if any, and soft/accepting. The fairways were lush, could be a bit soggy if I'm picky but nice to say the least. The bunkers had cotton candy texture of white sand, my favorite. The ball could plug but was always a joy to hit out of. Surprisingly easy to get spin knowing how soft the sand was, Could've fallen asleep like I was at the beach. The greens were amazing. Rolled probably a 11.5 on the stimp, had little pitch marks and the mow pattern was crisp and enjoyable to look at.

Not going to lie, this course is easy and fun to play. Not long, tips played a little under 7100 today, but a joy nonetheless. That kind of described my experience to be honest. Everything was great and exceptional knowing this is sister course to a PGA Tour stop. The strategy isn't anything crazy; there's no trick mind games here. The greens are sloped but nothing too complex, the fairways are forgiving and wide, while the rough was lush but not playing adisappearing act on your ball high. The desert areas were nicely raked and I found my ball roll thru the fairways into the desert dirt a bit. There's short par 3s (nothing should be above a 5iron), a drive able par 4, and your risk reward par 5s.

In the end, I won't be coming back for the course design like the boulders or greyhawk...but I will return for the price, conditions, and extremely friendly service. Well done again TPC Scottsdale.
