After seeing the reviews and talking to those who played in the Guru outing on Thursday I decided I needed to go play. I found a Golfnow Deal for $75 for 645am and off I went. For those of you who don't know its a 2 mile cart ride from the club house to the tee. Make sure to time your arrival appropriately as you can be late if you pull into the parking lot 5 mins before your tee time. I tried to get out first at 630 but the starter was a bit rude and said no way. He then proceeded to send a 2 some out and I was a bit upset. After waiting for the next three 4 some's to tee off the 3 I was paired with were off on our 4.75 hour round :( .

I can not agree more with the previous reviews everything was in fantastic summer shape. Greens were a bit firm for my liking but smooth and fast. Everything else I would rate about 7 out of 10. There are a few areas starting to show the summer heat but nothing that would damper your experience.

I am a huge fan of their par 3's. All of the 3's are down hill with was a relief after glancing at the yardages before the round ranging 190-210. All played at least one club less due to the elevation. We rode the Golds and the greens were still hard to hit from above.

I highly recommend you go play here.

Just got back from my AZ trip tonight. Was awesome golfing + seeing so many AZ GK’ers as well some from SoCal. Was a fast track for me so did not have time to post reviews on the road. However I knew the first thing I wanted to do when I got back was post a review for Quintero Golf Club because it is truly a unique amazing track that met my big expectations.

Played with GK’ers sdgolforbust, sixpez and a GK Facebook user Jon Thursday afternoon. We teed off at 2:40pm and finished in just over 4 hours, even as a 6 players on the last 4 holes (GK’ers Uncleddboy23 and xjackflashx circled back to join us – who could blame them wanting to play more). We had the golf course to ourselves at that point racing some thundershowers so it worked out.

This golf course is an instant Top-10 golf for me and one of the most beautiful desert mountain layouts I’ve ever played. Have to admit, with my big expectations, I was not very impressed with the opening 4 holes, but holes 5 to 18 wow, so beautiful and fun. Amazing views, challenging holes trailing through the mountain landscape, super conditions, lush fairways, lush rough and lush tees. Well maintained bunkers and very good firm, smooth, moderately fast greens. Water refreshment stations every 4 holes. Clean bathrooms. Just top-notch. And to think this was the end summer experience. Can only imagine, actually will make a point to play it again, when it is in overseeded peak season conditions.

Overview: Quintero Golf Club, a Rees Jones design that opened up in 2000 as a private course, in the northwest Phoenix, AZ suburb of Peoria, is a classic desert course that has tremendous views due to the topography of the course and being surrounded by the Hieroglyphic Mountains. It is a course that has a great set of par 3's ... the par 3 6th and 9th holes come to mind, and a great set of par 5's ... especially the par 5 8th hole. The course became public in roughly 2005 due to the downturn in the Arizona economy. Quintero is basically an isolated golf course with nothing other then 5 or 6 homes on the back nine, and some stay and play housing on the front nine. Other than that there is no development of any kind within 10 miles of the course.
We were very fortunate to have JohnnyGK set up two groups for us at 2:30 pm, and we basically had the course to ourselves. This is so very rare because of the constant play that this course gets. It was nice to have sixpez make the drive from the Coachella Valley and to meet azscratchorbust. It was also great meeting some of the other AZ GK'ers ... Jack, Rick and John. I think we all had enjoyed the course and each others company.

Clubhouse: Pretty straight forward pro shop and a small but clean snack bar. People were very nice and greeted us promptly. The player assistant took my bag and welcomed me to the course and gave me a little bit of history about the course ... nice touch.

Course: As stated earlier, the course has a lot elevation changes and has a great flow to all of the holes. Only a couple of holes run parallel to each other, but other then that the only people that you see are the ones in your group. The course was in great summer shape ... the bermuda fairways were lush and the lies were perfect. The rough was consistent and not very punishing. The sand in all the bunkers was of a good quality and the tee boxes were in good shape. The greens were top-dressed a couple of days ago, but the light coating of sand actually made the bent grass greens run a little bit smoother. Overall, probably the best conditioned "summer" course that I have played in the last 2-3 years.
As always during the Arizona "monsoon" season, we had to worry about afternoon thunderstorms, and we were very fortunate to avoid a couple of the them.

Final Thoughts: It was great to have JohnnyGK make the drive out to AZ and set up a great day for all the GK'ers ... Thanks John!! Quintero is a great facility and I would definitely put it on your "must play" list on your next trip to the Valley of the Sun.

Played this course for the first time with the GK folks. Great group of people which made the day even more enjoyable. Overall the course was the best course condition wise I’ve encountered in the valley, it was tourney ready even for late August under a Phoenix sun. It’s definitely a drive to get here from anywhere in the valley but the drive was half the fun getting there. The scenery is like a painting. Wildlife was abundant and loved the fact that there were no homes minus the 5 built before the recession. Fairways were lush and allowed many different shots. The course is challenging yet rewarding just the same. Probably my favorite sets of par 3s I’ve played yet in my short “career”. The staff at the course was exceptionally from the cart crews to the cook all were extremely helpful and didn’t mind pointing the guy whose never been here before in the right direction. I would def recommend this course to anyone who asks.

What a fun afternoon out at Quintero with some GK Gurus and AZ folks. It was so generous of the course to host our two groups on a such a stellar course. We got started around 2:30 and were basically the only people out on the course in the late afternoon. A couple nasty storms threatened in the nearby mountains, but never quite attacked the course. Just a lot of creepy thunder rumbling throughout much of our front nine before it dissipated. Then, another squall rolled in as we were rushing to finish up and I think we got out of Dodge just in time. As we drove back toward Scottsdale after, it was a crazy lightshow in every direction throughout the entire valley!

The course was in very nice late summer shape with a solid bermuda turf all the way around. Good fairways and tee boxes. Rough really lush, but cut down and not too penal. I had some nice fluffy lies for hitting many 3-woods and hybrids into the predominantly elevated and well-guarded greens. The course was playing long for me today and it's a stern test of golf no matter your skill level. The bunkers were very nice with coarse, yet plentiful sand that offered plenty of cushion (though you do have to commit to your shot because the sand is so dense). The greens were also in very nice shape. They had a light topdressing of sand that helped smooth out the surface. A little on the firm side and rolling well at medium speeds.

This was my second time here and I was just as impressed with this course this time around. It's a gorgeous setting and a dynamic layout with one of the best collections of par-3s around. The very secluded location is kind of a double-edged sword. It's certainly a bit of a drive for anyone to get out here and there's nothing else around for miles, but it's a stunning gem of a course that is worth a little extra effort to get to. Love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Played here Saturday, 9/16 to kick off an Arizona golf weekend. Had a 12:01 "Deal" time through TeeOff.com but arrived around 10:00 due to driving across the desert faster than I anticipated. After hitting a few balls and putting for a few minutes, I was able to hit the first tee around 10:35, by myself. Played the first few holes at my own pace, but then ran into groups on the 4th or 5th hole and waited the remainder of the day. The staff and marshals all did an amazing job of explaining that there was really nowhere for me to go due to groups stacked up in front of me, but they gave me all kinds of different options to circle back and play the front nine twice plus the back nine later, etc., in order to avoid the back-up. I thanked them for their concern but chose to just play the course in normal order and I took my time taking pictures, etc. One marshal even gave me a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie because he felt bad for me. The whole staff, from greeters at the gate who take your bag, to the pro shop, beverage cart, marshals, etc. were outstanding. I don't remember the last time I received this level of service at a course. It seemed like everyone working there genuinely cared that I enjoy my round. Total POP ended up being around 4:30.

Conditions are very good, playing a little better than it looks due to most of the grass being medium to light green this late in summer. Greens were fast and mostly smooth, although there were quite a few healing ball marks on them. The greens accepted full shots very well; balls stopped pretty much where they landed. Fairways were lush and provided good lies. Rough was maybe a little less lush, but still quite nice for September. Tee boxes were good. Bunker sand was excellent.

It's a pretty fun layout, very reminiscent of another Rees Jones desert course, Cascata (even with lots of similar pointy hills nearby). It also reminded me somewhat of Trump National L.A., with nearly every fairway surrounded by trouble on both sides. You don't have to miss far off line to be in the desert here. Really nice par 3s, especially on the front side, both of which play from significantly elevated tees that provide great views across the course and desert.

One more note: Carts had basic text GPS with yardages to the front, back and middle of each green. The layout could really use a monitor with hole routing, etc. However, a marshal told me they will have all new carts and some sort of brand new, state-of-the-art GPS system when they reopen from overseeding in about a month or so.

I want to start by saying we loved the course. The conditions were excellent. That being said, the staff was terrible. You can look at the reviews I have done and you will see I am candid. We could talk about it to the end of the world, but for $200, you would think they would just have been a lot friendlier. Frankly, I was so sour I wont go back... too many other options. Great golf course though.

This was the first round of my 72-hole blitz on Sunday. The course is definitely away from anything resembling civilization, with only a handful of houses on the property at this point. Those are good things to me because I love the remote location and unspoiled views throughout this dramatic course. I was paired with a threesome and we teed off at 7:06, finishing about 4:20 later as we stayed on top of the group ahead all morning. As Brian mentioned, there is a very long drive from the clubhouse/staging area up to the excellent practice area by the first tee. The routing is very entangled and spread out, so just all the extra driving will add some time to the overall pace of play. The course was in excellent condition from tee to green. The tee boxes were ideal. The fairways were soft (maybe a little too wet in the early morning as we had a few balls plug) with perfectly fluffy lies to hit from. The rough was kind of browned out on the first several holes (along the fairways and around tee boxes, but green and lush around greens). That was only on the first several holes, though. After that they were green, lush and beautifully kept just about everywhere you looked, with just some tiny weak spots here and there. The sand was soft and great. After dreadfully slow greens at TPC Saturday, I was excited when the pro shop guy told me the greens at Quintero were running at around 11.5. The practice green did not disappoint with a pure and slick surface. The greens on the course rolled just as quickly. Unfortunately, they were very pock-marked. It was more of a visual blemish with a lot of tiny brown spots from old ball marks. Most had been repaired, but it was always worth taking the time to flatten out any on your putting line. As long as you did that, you'd get a pure result. Longer putts through a bunch of spots were sometimes thrown a little off from any slight depressions on such slick surfaces. Other than some blemishes on the greens, the course itself was in fantastic shape and looked beautiful. It is a very visually stunning and challenging layout that runs throughout the rugged desert hills and canyons. The fairways are often more forgiving than they look from the tees. The greens are not so easy to get at, as is typical with a Rees Jones course. There are many elevated greens that require an extra club or two on approach. Perhaps a few too many uphill approaches for my taste. Most of the downhill shots can be found on tee shots and the par-3s. Speaking of the par-3s, this course has an awesome collection of scenic and challenging par-3s, as well as a really great set of par-5s. Highly recommended and worth the extra drive!

Quite the haul from the rest of the Phoenix courses. Definitely worth the drive to pair with Wickenburg Ranch. Course is in great condition. Looks like part of a housing sub division that barely got built. Seems to be about 6-10 houses out here. If you don't like playing among houses, now is the time to go. Really enjoyed the views out here. Fairways to rough to greens were immaculate. Some big elevation changes that require one or even two higher clubs. Greens were pretty hard but held the ball the few times my clubs agreed with my swing. They felt almost like cement but played like on grass. They were mostly flat with subtle breaks. Nothing unfair. All the par threes were long but felt the same. High tee boxes shooting down onto wide but shorter greens. 180-200 yards with traps or water guarding them. Not easy at all. This course is not walkable as you are going up and down a mountain or two. Also a long drive from the office to the driving range and first and last whole. Seems like they never even started building the clubhouse when the housing market crashed. It will also not be a quick round. Took over 3.5 hours as a single playing pretty quick without having to wait on one hole. I would definitely include this course on a golf road trip.
