Played on 9/27 with a couple of buddies. We got the twilight rate just under $100 for a 2pm tee time. The guy in the pro shop said all carts need to be in by 630 which seems early. We finished at 640 and they pulled the flags from the holes at 6:30 That was just plain unacceptable. Luckily we were on 18 and the group in front let us know where the hole was by waving at us from the green. Also a par 3 finish?!! That being said the Starter and Cart girl were by far some of the friendliest people I've encountered on the golf course.

As for the course we knew going in that the greens were not great as they did not handle the winter well. There are 3 greens with major issues but most did not affect the play on them. The other greens were in decent shape rolling at medium speed and receiving most shots. Fairways were in good shape. There are a few small areas that are GUR which is normal right before they close for winter. Tee's level and fine but a couple of 3's were chewed up. Sand needs some TLC as it was firm and more of a loose dirt than sand.

POP felt miserable but we finished just over 4:40 waiting on almost every tee box. I still can't get over the fact that they pulled the flags from the holes at 6:30 when we still had 45 mins of light. The group behind us almost had a stroke from screaming at the workers pulling flags. Its a fun course but at full rack, the conditions should be better. Hopefully they prep the greens better before the snow buries them for 5 months,

played a twilight 9 here with my son on a trip after fishing in morning. course just opened and is still coming out of hibernation. friendly check in and starter. tee boxes from the blues and reds all in pretty good shape. fairways were still a bit spotty, with a lot of small bare spots that i'm sure will fill in as the season progresses. bunkers in decent shape. greens though a bit slow were actually in quite good condition and ran pretty true. pretty backed up, probably 2 1/2 hrs for 9, but i didn't mind it as it was a beautiful course and the weather was great. tree lined with views of the mountains in the background, perfect day out there.

Played Saturday with a 12pm tee time and the course is going to need a few weeks to recover from the winter.

Played sierra star on 8/8 with some friends. We had a 8:15 Tee time and went right out on time. POP seemed slow because we had to wait on every tee but we finished at 4 hours. Per the proshop this course is getting a ton of play right now with a lot of areas shut down around the town of mammoth and they are averaging 200 rounds a day. Weekend rates are steep at $150 +10 for a basic cart but it is a resort course so you expect to pay more.

Conditions are really good but the fairways are not quite as good as my previous trips. It looks like the drier than normal winter and lack of any summer rain has made the fairways suffer in places. I still give them a 7/10 but with the course as narrow as it is the brown spots in the fairways come into play more. Greens and Sand were the highlights of the course as the greens were medium soft and fast for the putts. The sand was soft and plentiful. No rakes but being the 4th group out I didn't encounter and un-raked spots just some bear and wildlife tracks. The rough was scary as it was THICK!!! definitely needed an extra club to get out of it.

Overall this course is worth a play if a deal could be found. It is very tight with tall pine tree's lining the entire course and a few lake thrown in. Also the greens are very undulated and the pin locations can be diabolical as they were this weekend. (someone needs to buy the greenskeeper a drink)

Played Sunday 7/16 7:10 am (3rd off). 4 hrs as a 4some.. a little slow as the first group set a slow pace. A very pretty course. Tree lined, rolling course, mammoth mountain as your backdrop. Course in good shape. Fairways were mostly lush, with quite a few healing areas, but all playable. Greens in great shape: running 10 on stimp average, as grain affected speed significantly. Very undulating, and many holes need to be on the right tier. Many holes where position is premium over distance. With the elevation factor, I only used driver on maybe 6 holes. About a 15% longer carry with the elevation. Kind of fun hitting 15 -20 yds longer than normal. There is a normally 1/2 club downhill par 3, 180, and i hit a 9 iron pin high. No driving range, hitting nets instead. Staff friendly. Great morning of golf after a morning of skiing the day before, and biking in the afternoon. Would play again.

Enjoyed a round at Sierra Star on 7/1 with my brother apisarski. If you have ever played this course you know the wind can be a handful luckily we got a perfect day with light winds and 75 degrees. Tee Time was at 8 am and there was a group in front of us and we didnt see them after the 3rd hole which made for great POP.

The views from the course early in their season was spectacular especially with all of the record snow still in the mountains surrounding the course. It really made it feel like a mountain course. Although the course is short at 6000 yards and a Par 70 it can play very tough with all of the danger of the pine tree lined fairways and well placed bunkers.

Course Conditions were good to great from tee-green. The tee's, fairways and rough were all lush and cut perfect with no bare spots. The grass is almost fully out of dormancy so in about 2 weeks it will have a dark green look to it. The sand traps were in excellent condition and were light and fluffy which made green side bunker shots fun.

The only thing thing that hurt the rating were the greens and they were not that bad. They seem to be dormant. Although all grass, it was just a little brown and took away from the scenic value. The greens did perform well as they were fast and firm and all putts were smooth.

One tip for putting, which I didnt learn until half way through the round, is reading the grain of the green. A normal 1 foot break can be 3 plus feet if the grain is running against the hole. This made for 5 three putts on the day.

In all the course is fun although expensive it is definitely worth a play if in the area. I will be back next year as its a course I like to play at least once a season. If you are an adventure they have a 99 dollar deal that include skiing/ mountain biking and 9 holes of golf.

Finally made it back out to Sierra Star on Saturday and my experience was amazing as expected. After calling on the Wednesday before the first tee time I could get was at 230-pm due to a large group going out in the morning. Temperatures started at 53° at 215 when we went out and dropped to 40° by 615 when we ended out round Winds were 10-15 with gusts to 25mph which made things interesting. Luckily the holes play down wind or against wind most of the time so no big cross winds. Staff was super friendly and gave us the employee rate as my playing partner works for the mountain during the winter so $45 to play is a great rate compared to $69 twilight or $99 rack rate for end of the season. The course is set to close next weekend but the proshop said there is a chance to extend it a week or two because they punched the greens so late this year.

Conditions were fantastic on most of the course with the fairways and Tee's being immaculate. There is not a lot of rough on the course maybe 3-10 ft between the fairways and the tall pine tree's that surround the course. The only down side where the greens were very bumpy from being aerated a week ago and could've used some sanding to keep them rolling smooth.

In all this a quite the treat and with the 7800 ft elevation you can hit some long drives. I hit one that went 377 yards which make's a par 5 a driver and lob wedge a real opportunity to score well. Sadly I launched my wedge 20 yards too far and into the woods only to recover and make par. Be careful as you can easily get an extra 20 yards per club and with the wind I was looking at 40 yards per club. With no driving range onsite its best to go to snow creek 1 mile down the road and use there driving range to get your distances down.

I hope they dont close as everyone is saying might happen, as this is my favorite mountain course that I have played due to the challenge and tight holes. Highly recommended
