Played 6/29 @ 810 am as a 2 some. POP 4 hrs, there was nobody out there (semi-private). All grass range, no fee for balls. You could beat balls all day long. Nice short game area and putting green, did I say they were in perfect condition? By far the best conditioned course I've ever played, from tee box to fairways to greens 9.5/10. Greens were absolutely perfect , I mean perfect. Every put would roll so pure. If you did miss, it was all on you. Felt bad taken divots from the fairways they were that good. One thing you need is a laser range finder, all they have is 100, 150, 200 markers , that's it. Had a stay and play package with 2 free rounds of golf, great deal. Played Pebble later that day, great warm up course and in way better condition.

We got a great deal to play two rounds and stay overnight here for the first time. The hotel staff was friendly and the rooms were huge. The course was only 3 minutes driving distance from the hotel.

We were astonished when we arrived at the grass driving range. It was immaculate and green. We can hardly see any divots. The range balls were complimentary and hit as much as you want. A practice bunker and green were nearby.

A helpful starter guided us to the first tee and handed us a few bottles of water. Then, he cited us the course rules.
Our first look at the fairway was impressive. The tee box area was almost perfect without ball marks. The fairway was green without any brown or daged spots. The condition through out the course was just as impressive as the first tee--immaculate. Fairways were so smooth and well maintained feel like green carpet. The roughs were well groomed but densed. We had hard time hitting the ball out. There were many bunkers on the fairways and around the greens. However, the sand was soft. Water hazard was placed on fairways as well.

There were many dog-legged fairways. But without a GPS on the cart and no fairway map on the score card. It was hard to tell where the green was.

The course is not too difficult if playing the gold markers. The Par 4s are not too long and most of them are under 400 yards. The Par 3s, on the other hand, are long. Coupled with hazards and wind, the Par 3s (5 of them) are quite challenging.

We love this course. But there are questions we'd like to have answers:
Why there is no GPS on the cart?
Why there are no fairway maps and green diagrams on the score card?
Why all the flags were yellow on the second day we played?

Acesfull and I just finished our round. We ended up staying here at the lodge as well and had a stay and play offer. What a nice. Ha he from the brutal day before. We had a 12:30ish tee time and finished under 4 hours. It was just the two of us and we finished the front 9 in just over 90 minutes. We didn't catch up to people until hole #10. The check in staff was friendly as well as the starter. Has a driving range with balls all ready for you. We didn't stop at the snack bar as we had eaten prior to our round. I played from the green tees and it was perfect length for me. My tee boxes were flawless, cute little tee markers too. Tee boxes were level as well. Fairways were perfect. The rough was thick and oftentimes were hard for me to get out of. I was only in one sand trap (which is shocking as I'm usually in many of them) but it was nice and soft and shiny. It glistened in the sun! Greens were nice and soft and not a pitch mark to be found. Greens were quite fast as well. Definitely a course to play and from talking to the locals, a fun and enjoyable resort golf experience. We definitely will be back to play here on our next visit to Carmel. Forgot to mention, the restaurant is amazing- Edgar's. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is very good.

All I can say is WOW. Here as part of a stay and play package I wish I booked more golf days. One of the top 5 visually beautiful courses I have played. Staff perfect. Conditions OUTSTANDING!!! Most of it looked like no one plays there. Probably the best conditioned golf course I have played. Visually spectacular, set in a peaceful serene area of Carmel Valley, quiet with some nice houses set back enough and gorgeous landscaping with wood chips and beautiful plants throughout the course. Greens recently aerated and already healed. Nice grass practice range, perfectly level and trimmed tee boxes, flawless fairways, tough 2" super lush rough, gorgeous greens with nary a mark anywhere. Sand was THE BEST I have played in west of Florida. Felt like they took it right from the beach. Carts are EZ-go with the soft brake. Such a pleasure over yesterday's round pushing 3-4 times to try to get the brake set. No GPS or cart service and didn't notice water but didn't look. Wasn't hot. This is a fairly straight forward course with well placed deep bunkering with thick tall grasses bordering the bunkers. Greens are small and not overly undulating but still have enough subtlety to make them fun. Too bad I seem to have forgotten how to hit a golf ball. You can score well here. Such a pleasure to play this course. Nice swag at the pro shop and excellent food at the restaurant. This is a top notch facility in all areas.

As noted in other reviews, this is a top notch Monterey Peninsula Golf course. It's in the Carmel Valley so the weather is a bit warmer than some of the peninsula fogged in courses. Course is a resort style course that plays a bit easier than your average top tier course. The greens while rolling smooth and fast, are fairly flat. Either I was driving really well or the fairways were pretty wide open. There are a number of fairway bunkers to offer challenges though. The challenge in the course comes from the first three par 3's. They average 190 yards from orange tees (what most courses consider the blue tee's).

Speaking of bunkers, I didn't land in one until 11 hole of the second day. What a treat!!! I almost wished I had been in more bunkers. They are every bit as good as the bunkers at Pebble.

Staff friendliness is absolutely the best, bar none. The entire staff is over the top superb.

Only complaint is that there was no beverage cart either day. I get the Thursday afternoon but no cart during primetime Friday play?

overall, it's a great course that I'm already booked to play three more times in April.

Played Quail Lodge 12/4/16 along with fellow GK Guru Krajon01 as part of the GK Review Guru outing. Quail Lodge is beautiful, 18 hole golf course nestled in the Carmel Valley, about 10 minutes from Pebble Beach and 17 Mile Drive.

The course is perfectly tucked into the canyon between the Santa Lucia Preserve to the west and, and Carmel Highlands to the east. The course wraps around an established development of homes on the front and back side along with the lodge residences, with the Carmel River snaking around sections of the course.

The course plays at 6400+ from the tips, and is a mix of challenging par 3's, narrow par 4's and doglegged par 5's.

The course is on par with what you would expect when it comes to playing in the Monterey Peninsula. Fairways, greens, bunker complex's, and overall playing surface are exquisite, and as good or close to the Pebble Beach Company Courses.

To me, the signature of of this course is the small postage stamp greens which are firm, fast, pure, and true. These greens rival championship courses frequented by the PGA Tour.

Another feature that stands out to me is the bunker complex's which were fair, yet provided a challenge with their depth and size throughout the course.

I enjoyed the course as a whole, from check-in to finish. The starter, cart attendants, and pro shop staff are welcoming, and very informative.

While technically a resort course with private membership, guests do not need to stay at the lodge to play.

The course is affordable, fun, fair and challenging. I cant wait to go back and play it again.

Really beautiful course on the sunny side of the Carmel area. The course was in absolutely beautiful shape. Very neat contours inside of the Carmel Valley canyons with great views. The course was narrow and quite demanding off the tee. The fairways of poa annua grass were absolutely immaculate. If you hit it in the fairway you were guaranteed an outstanding lie. And the greens, as you'll often see in the Monterey area, we're very small and guarded by difficult and deep bunkers. But they rolled beautifully.

This was another really great experience of golf in the Monterey area. And the pace of play was so fast it allowed for some touring of that gorgeous part of the state after the round is over. If you're going to go to Monterey and play a few rounds add this to your list.

Played Quail Saturday, my friend just became a member. the previous GKGuru reviews are spot on, the course was in immaculate shape. Not a bad lie in the fairways. The rough was consistent (about 2 inches thick), and very lush due to recent rains. The greens had nary a ball mark, and were relatively quick. I think due to the rain, the greens were a little soft, and approach shots were not only receptive, but backed up quite a few approaches (I doubt it was because I was playing with the new Kirkland ball). I don't know what the rate is to play the course, but it is a first rate facility. Great practice area, with grass range, practice bunkers, chipping area and putting.

I would definitely recommend this course as an option when in the Monterrey/Carmel area, and that is not just because my buddy is a member. One of my new all time favorites.
