Played mid-morning Tuesday after a three day annual Memorial Amateur Championship with the pins left set where they had been for the final round of the event.
When I had inquired about the greens and conditions about ten days prior they stated we're the Augusta of Carmichael. Maybe a little puffing there, but the greens were really good. I rated 9 of 10. Rough was up and near the fairways not too bad deeper in longer.
Bunkers fluffy light brown sand very good as well.
Fairways not carpet but nice and offering roll out for the stinger type drives of my game.
Tee boxes large and level.
We followed the womens golf league and this course is popular with the senior set. Pace of play at 4.5 hours.
I looked at my previous review from 8/2019 and I feel the same with my playing recommendations. At $38 Sr walking rate mid-week a no-brain-er Go Play the Hoff!
Don't know why I haven't this long.
** Note the parking lot and access road is in a large scale re-do so parking is a bit out of normal with a space for about 200+ cars for golfing and adjacent park. Should be completed in July 2025 Bye.

Played Wed 5/20, 9:30 tee time, 4 1/2 hr round. Pleasant time as usual. Greens a little slower than the last time I played here, (slow10) and a little more beat up. Had to fix quite a few ball marks. Most disconcerting, is the congregation of geese proliferating, multiplying... more goslings and families. I hate the geese. Because with geese, come goose droppings. It's not too bad yet, but I'm worried. This will stop me from playing here. Other than that, course in decent shape... but with the geese, the weather getting hotter, and the public not taking care of the greens, I'm wary of the next 6 weeks.

Played Wed 4/29, 9:30 time, 4:15 to play. Course in great shape. The more I play this, the more I appreciate the layout. Not only do you have to keep the ball out of the trees, you need to be in right spot to score... though course knowledge is crucial for this. Greens firm,smooth, and true, 10 stimp. Flagsticks have a disc that sits about 1/4 inch below the cup.. wish it were deeper... lipouts are common. Had a great time.

Played Fri 11/1, 9:50 tee time, 4:15 round. Course in great shape. Haven't played here in years, and I found it enjoyable. Challenging layout, have to keep the ball out of the trees. Greens in great shape, running about 11+ on the stimp. My main complaint 5 years ago was the amount of goose droppings on the course. A few geese on the course, but most of them must be south for this warm winter. Recommend this course.

Played 8/3/2019 stroke play tourney and POP was steady at 4.6 hours waited occasionally, but expected being a net play everything down event. Weather 70's to 90's sunny slight breeze.

Haven't been to the "Hoff" in awhile and conditions were good to very good for the classic William Bell Sr design (1959) The trees certainly have gotten taller and wider since grandpa played here specifically 15 and 16 with large valley oaks in the line of play making it a thinkers or get lucky off the tee. Greens good to really good fairways tight. In one bunker good as I'd say most all were maybe a few wet with heavier darker sand. All conditions playable. Per other reviews noted the large trees lining most holes. I think I hit them on 5 or 6 holes on the front and still got in for a 44 for a net 32 stumbled on 16 and 18 net bogeys -4 net total. In other words keep it straight. I did finish with the same ball I started with which is an exception for me. In other words played pretty well for my level. I always try not to let my score effect my review. Played well today, had to, paired with three lady sharks out for blood. (shark week reference)

Customer service great. Pro shop well stocked and great staff. Overall 4 star day at the public venue that I would make a point to return to soon and repeat or better my day.

Played Ancil on 6/20. The golf course is in immaculate condition, no dead spots yet. The greens roll as good as any public course in the region. The fairways were in great shape, though there were a decent amount of divots but what do you expect for a public course in mid-summer?

Highly recommend this golf course. Great shape and always a very tough challenge for any level of golfer.

I had heard good things about the course and really enjoyed my round. Challenging course due to a lot of large very old trees. Not an extremely long course, but if you aren't straight off the tee box it is going to be a long day for you.

My only complaint is that due to the summer heat, the greens were very hard. Lots of good approach shots bounced off the green. Greens were in good shape and rolled well. I will be back, probably some time in the Spring to experience the course in peak shape.
