Friday 1133 tee time, 2 ball, grew into 4 ball due pace, after nine. Total 4hrs 30 min. Winter golf, Easy pace on a busy day with the weather finally breaking after a lot of rain. The course drained very well and carts were allowed on the fairways, but some casual water still evident, with pooling in a few bunkers. Amazing greens recovery. Smooth, soft and running fairly quick. Good round of solid golf on an engaging layout. No drinks cart, easy check in, good grub in the grill with nice staff. Did not need a marshal anyway today. Overall course conditions: very good. Greens: very good to great; soft, holding and rolling true with not too many bumps, and interesting designs. Customer service also very good. With the re-design complete, Chardonnay has a new and interesting flow to the layout. LOTS of options for tees to play and enough challenge for all levels of skill. Good prac/fac for warm up. Tees, fairways, rough presented to a very high standard; off course very dry (but off the course you would be in the grapes anyway). Lots of water stations and good drinks cart passes for early morning time. Deals on golfnow.com, and discounts on the course website as well, make it worth a trip. We took up the offer of $39 riding and chili dog incl. 0900 tee time, 2 ball under 4 hours. Winds can blow on the exposed layout so pick your day. Overall, very enjoyable and worth a return soon.

Good manicuring of grasses and targeted watering. Greens are very good and interesting designs, which is probably their defense. Lots of water stations and good marshaling. Arrived early on 5/05 as our tee time was at 1:03 ; got here at 11:30 due to light traffic from southern california.Teed off at 12:00 and fiished in 4:15 hrs. Pro shop charged us $42 instead of the $66 and a small bucket of balls. Sand traps were very nice as I was in them often but got out of them in good shape. Par 3's were interesting with overgrown tree branches.The pro shop, the bartender, the cart lady..., the customer service was great. If I am ever back in Napa, I will play this course again. Our threesome had a great time.

Chardonnay has re-routed their front nine using a combination of 4 existing holes (1, 2, 5, 6) from the Vineyards 9, one new par 3 out of the former Vineyards par 5 9th hole, and four of the previous existing holes on the Lakes 9 (1, 3, 4, and 9). The back nine is what was known as the Meadows 9 in it's entirety with no changes. What had been the other holes from these two nines have mostly been converted into vineyards or are in the process of doing so. Construction for the modification is mostly complete and that which remains doesn't interfere with play.

The green for the new par 3 #5 is very narrow on the right side, higher than the left side which previously existed as the Vineyards #9 and can make for some very interesting putts. My personal feeling is that the right side of the green is too narrow for most golfers to bring it into play if the pin is located there and if you go for the fat portion of the green, you will have a considerable "up-the-shelf" putt.

The greens are still healing from their aeration process and were more slow and bumpy than not, but that's to be expected. Fairways, tees, and traps were all good to excellent with the exception of standing water in some of the traps that had not drained completely from the rain the past few days...actually, the course was amazingly dry all things considered.

Customer service is always above par at Chardonnay, from check-in to check-out and everything in between.

FORE!!! GOLF COURSE UNDER REDESIGN. Monday 26 Oct 12:54 tee 4 ball. For now, a temp scorecard set up for 18 holes. The Lakes closed. Combining Vineyards/Meadows as holes 1-18. Much construction is underway on Lakes on which a few holes will be integrated with some holes of Vineyards to total the Front nine. Meadows to remain and be Back nine. I have been told the setup will be ready by year end 2009. Currently, all greens are good, soft, holding and true. Tees and fairways(firm and running) are good with some bare areas noticed immediately off the track. Rough cut back to around an inch off fairways and around greens; elsewhere nearer to 5" .
Sand quality poor, more like dirt in most bunkers throughout. Good service checking in, high quality F&B at the Grill, lots of drinks cart passes, with plenty of water stations. Good turf range, with sand bunker added, large putting green, no chipping area. The new layout will still be attractive with plenty of challenge from FIVE new tees. Golfnow 'hotdeal' $31 riding.

Played Meadows / Vineyards today. I always enjoy this combination (though you can't pay me to play the lakes). Generally it was in nive condition with a few fairways needing work. Greens were very good. The new routing starts mid-September I'm told -- they are closing down nine holes and combining the best holes from the vineyards and the lakes. The new par 3's are taking shape and make the course stronger. Given the reduction in maintenance and trouble spots it should improve the course as well. Definitely looking forward to playing the new the routing.

The course is dry. Most of the watering concentrated for the greens and they are in very good condition, holding and rolling well. Tees, fairways dry and thin but green. Lots of bare spots outside of rough, which is thin and cut around one inch. Sand? Some are actually dirt and need adding. Layout is pleasant and challenge sufficient with great greens architecture. Worth a look with a deal. Ours: $30 with cart golfnow

Went back because a friend of a friend got a huge discount. Have to say it was a much more enjoyable round this time because I knew the ins and outs of the course. The pin placement also seemed to be a bit more fair. The greens were in phenomenal shape, had my best putting round ever. They are quick but hold just about everything you throw at them from 200 and in. Tee Boxes and fairways were ok. The Bunkers were fine except for one greenside bunker that could've used some sand. The rough is bare or dead in some spots...but then again it is the "rough". Nice course, would never pay it for full price. Too many deals floating around out there. Get your hands on one and go have fun.
