smallmac - you're right. I don't care about the history of Skylinks. So you have a personal affinity for the course - big deal. You remember the course when it was in it's prime, not at it's state in the last decade. The course simply could not accommodate the demand of golf, and the facilities were outdated. Do you remember the food shack after #8? That thing hasn't been open in years. The track sucked - any true golfer could tell you that, and it was in desparate need for a facelift.

Yes, I broke 90 this past weekend.

CARSBYBIGD - my reviews are quite positive except for Skylinks. It was a dump, and it needed remodeling. In regard to Cypress - hardly anyone plays there anyway - which is one of the reasons it's closing - they priced themselves out of the local market.

FYI ... I've never played Ocean Trails and played Pelican Hills twice.

I'm a LB resident so I know the local course much better than you.

I'm not quite sure why the previous poster is so enamoured with Skylinks. It was a horrible track with horrible facilities. It was the black-eye of Long Beach courses. I'm glad it's being remodeled - the golfers in the area deserve a better track. Even with the increased rates, the golf in Long Beach is a great value - resident or non-resident. People need to realize what "other muni" courses are charging. FYI ... Rec Park went thru some renovations years ago (i.e. cart paths) ... that course will not be touched.

The course is playing great - fairways and greens are in good shape.

This course always kicks my a$$. I liked the fact that #11 (par 5) was playing 152 yards from the tees!!!! Some greens were fast, others were not - I never got my putter going. I tee'd off at 6:39 a.m., by the time I finished it was 94 degrees.

The course plays tight - if you're tee shots go all over the place, you're in for a long day. Good course otherwise. I played my SCGA Amateur Net qualifier here (April) and it was playing well. Water comes into play on a number of holes.

Played the course two weeks ago - during the Match Play Championships. Course was playing well, and the greens were in good shape. Finished in just under 4:30 - with early morning tee times. Course can be tough if you miss the fairways - the rough is starting to grow out and the TREES. Course will play more difficult in the coming weeks as the City Championships and the Open are just around the corner.

Played the course twice this past weekend. Greens are in great shape. The City Championships, and the Open are just around the corner so the course is playing nicely. I played my round in under 4:40 - that's with a 7:30 a.m. tee time. Anything after 9a.m. and you're looking at a 5:00 round easy.

By far, the worst course in the area. Dead spots all over the place. The worst thing is the uneven tee boxes. It's like teeing off a pitchers mound. I avoid this course at all costs.
