Returned to The Vineyard on August 1st. After my last round there, I was a little leery of the place. Played 18 in under four hours, cart and GPS worked great. Three problems, and I'm not sure how this can be fixed...1) way, WAY too much water on this course. Either there needs to be better drainage, or someone needs to adjust the sprinkler timing. A wet course doesn't mean a green course! 2) the never ending waves of gnat attacks. I know there are preserved natural areas around the course, and that's great, but d%mn ! Gnats everywhere! All the time! Unrelenting! 3) the greens are bumpy as heck. PLEASE fix your ball marks, fellow duffers!! It's hard enough to putt without having your ball run through an obstacle course!

All in all, it was a good round. Fix some problems and good becomes very good.

Played Woods Valley Saturday, June 10th, with a tournament group from Kyocera. I can't speak for everyone, but I was impressed with the way the course personnel handled the event. KUDOS to the crew at Woods Valley!

The course itself was in great condition. From tee to green, the place is well manicured and well taken care of. This is a tight course, with a premium placed on shot making over length. Thoughtful players with a variety of clubs and shots should LOVE this place. Long hitters....maybe not so much. Watched the long drive champ search for golf balls all day! Once again, Woods Valley has proven to be a fun, professionally managed, and wonderfully staffed facility. Now, if they could only land a liquor license!!

Played Mission Trails Saturday, May 27th. As usual, the staff was helpful and friendly, the shop well stocked, and the hot dogs were great!

Teed off almost on time, which was great for a holiday weekend. Some very slow players out there, but it was expected, so it didn't really affect play. The course is in pretty good shape considering the number of rounds played there on a regular basis. Greens were fun, fairways pretty well defined, and rough was decent. Standing water on some holes near the cart paths is a concern, though. A decent day, a decent round, a good price...makes for a good, inexpensive, fun golf outing. I do still wish my fellow golfers would take more pride in fixing ball marks and cleaning up after themselves. SIGH!!

Played Eagle Crest Saturday, 4-22-06. Once again, I was pleased with the staff and the facilities. Just a hassle-free place to play golf.

The course was a little beat up, unfortunately. Tee boxes could really use some work, as it was pretty tough to find a clear spot to tee up at times. I am a bit disappointed in my fellow golfers and their inability to use trash cans, repair divots, and fix ball marks. It's not that difficult, people!

Overall, the course played true, was great fun, and we finished 18 in under five hours. As a plus, the new aeration method seems to be less intrusive. An enjoyable afternoon of golf all around, even if some other golfers aren't very thoughtful.

Played The Vineyard on Saturday, 4-8-06. The course was in great shape, even though half of each green had been punched. The problems arose in the management and control of the course. We had a 1:45pm tee time but didn't get out until 2:30. Carts were poorly charged and were dirty, too. Sound like whining? It's not. For a course this nice to start the day so poorly smacks of poor planning. Besides, there didn't seem to be any real adults to control things. As we got backed up hole after hole after hole, all the marshall could do was say SORRY and try to get the one group ahead to move faster. The problem was the fivesomes and the obviously intoxicated. Hey, I'm all for fun golf and all, but that doesn't include yelling, chasing wildlife with your putter, leaving beer cans all over, and urinating off of the tee boxes. Yeah, some fun. The course itself was in good shape and played true. Sure had a hard time getting a good rythym going, though, and will have to think long and hard about when I'll play here again in the future. Maybe early mornings are the answer.

Rapidly becoming my favorite course in San Diego county! The combination of beauty and challenge can't be beat. Great staff who actually try to make your visit enjoyable...a treat in today's world.

Played Eagle Crest for the first time on Sunday, March 6th. Beautiful setting, nice pro shop, expensive but well stocked snack bar, and helpful, attentive staff made a great impression right off.

The course itself is in really nice condition, considering the dry SoCal winter. Beautifully designed and structured to challenge from the tips, but allow some forgiveness for duffers like me. Thoroughly enjoyed the round, even with some of the surprises like unseen water behind a couple of greens! A course map would certainly have been of great help to people new to the track. I look forward to playing this course again!

OK, I understand that this is a muni and, as such, will be played by a lot of people for a fair price. That doesn't excuse the terrible service we experienced on 2-26-06. We ordered our tee time through an online service and then drove up only to find that TEN PEOPLE had been given the exact same tee time! Wow! The desk was swamped and it took nearly 1/2 an hour just to get our cart. There were no range balls, as the picker was down...of course they didn't have any of the helpers out there raking up balls, either. Sad display, Oceanside! Then we finally hit the course, after waiting for about a dozen fivesomes to tee it up. For most of the course, the fairways are just gone. It was safer to hit to the "rough" as that's the only grass around! Amazingly, the greens were in great condition and rolled true all day. Once the pack started to spread out, the course showed itself to be interesting and fun...or will be when it has grass on it. I must have hit seven or eight "center cut" fairways only to find my ball sitting on dirt or planted in mud. Most courses in the county overseeded back in December/January timeframe...why so late here? To make a long story shorter, we finished in about five hours and fifteen minutes. Frustrated at not being able to warm up properly, I don't think we enjoyed the round much. The staff didn't seem to care whether the paying public was pleased or not, to be honest. The cart lady was nice and came by a few times, so that at least is something positive. Get your act together, Oceanside! You have what might be a fun track with some attention to the conditions and to your paying public. Take a look at some of the other munis around and do what they do! I won't be back, not that I'll be missed. It's just sad to see a course neglected and a poorly managed operation make a fun sport seem like a pain in the butt.

Played 12-31-05. As usual, crew was friendly and helpful. Course played true, if unforgiving of errant shots. Rough was REALLY rough! Light rain didn't cause any problems and course seemed to drain well. Greens were difficult to read, but rolled true. Booked through golf619.com and got GREAT rate! Overall, this is a wonderful course to play, regardless of skill level. Bring extra balls if you aren't a straight shooter, though!

Beautiful course, fun layout, consistent greens, perfect weather...we'll be back! Perfect combination of challenge and forgiveness. Can't wait until clubhouse is built! Nice driving range and friendly staff, too.
