Played on Monday (02/15/10) in a foursome and tee'd off at about 8:50 am. Surprisingly, it was not as packed as I thought it was going to be for a holiday. The rate of $59.00 wasn't bad compared to some of the other courses in the area but, my iPhone wasn't working to well in allowing me to book a rate at least $10.00 cheaper online.

This was my first time there and I thought from the moment we parked and checked in with the starter that it was going to be a good day. The folks inside the starter "trailer" were very friendly as well as the guy sitting in front of the first tee box making sure that each group comes up in the correct order.

As our group was getting ready to tee off, he asked if this was our first time at Dos Lagos and gave us a few pointers. He was genuinely a nice guy .

The tee boxes were nice and for the most part level. The bunkers were filled with decent sand and fairways were nice with only a mild amount of "dead spots." The greens were a little tricky. At first, they were kind of fast but as the day progressed, they became slower. The pace of play was good. We finished our round in just under 5-hours including a 30-40 minute break for lunch.

Overall, I recommend this place to anyone that can keep it in the fairway. Unlike some of the more forgiving courses, if you hit your ball sideways - it's gone. Some holes have pretty tight fairways and some of the greens are really elevated. I particularly liked the one Par 3 hole that where you stood almost a couple of hundred feet above the green. There is also no smoking on 4 of the last nine holes on the back 9.

I am definitely looking forward to next time. Enjoy.

I called Marshall Canyon last minute to see what the possibility would be for me and a buddy to just walk on for a round. Surprisingly, it was wide open and we were able to play as quickly as we could park the car and pay our green fees.

Unfortunately, we must have just showed up right after two foursomes of "older" ladies teed off. The starter was real cool and checked to see how busy it was for us to start on the 10th and make our way back to the front. It was definitely wide open because we started on the 10th with no wait.

This was both of our first times here and thought overall that the course was clean. If you have never been here, the course seems to have been built against the side of a canyon. Very similar to San Dimas Canyon. Fortunately, the weather was on the cooler side but no rain.

The tee boxes were uneven and there were still plenty of unfixed divots. The fairways were okay but thin in more than a few areas. The sand traps looked like they dumped some fresh sand but, there were a few traps that had some kind of plastic tarp showing through.

The greens were on the quicker side but was pretty inconsistent from one to the next. This course is definitely not flat. There is a lot of undulation on the fairways. Even though the fairways are wide and generous, you will have problems if you cannot hit a ball either below or above your feet. IMO, a little is alright but almost every fairway had up and downs and it can get pretty tiresome - both mentally and physically.

Overall, I had less than a stellar performance. But, I would come back and try to do better. Just not anytime soon. I actually had more fun at Mountain Meadows and San Dimas Canyon.

When we looked online for deals, both Mountain Meadows and San Dimas Canyon were booked solid. There must be an underlying reason why Marshall Canyon was so wide open. Especially when all three of these courses are run by American Golf and minutes away from each other.
