Played 1/31. Got an online rate of $47. Included green fee & cart. Aguila is a very nice course. The Black tees play at 7089 yards which gives you 4 Par 4's that are 454-471 yards. The course was designed by Gary Panks, who also designed The Legacy. Aguila has some tight fairways, but ample rough. Off the edges of the course is cleared out desert that has some native plants, but finding your ball should be no trouble.

The conditions overall were very good. Tee boxes were in good shape and level. Fairways were over seeded and firm. Rough is dormant bermuda cut short. Sand traps were very good. The fairway traps had plenty of sand and had low faces on them. This gives you a good chance to advance your ball to the green. Greens were in good shape. I thought they were med-fast and some were a little bumpy.

Aguila has a large practice range, a nice chipping area w/ sand trap, and a very large practice putting area. The course is located in the City of Laveen, but according to the card it is run by the City of Phoenix Park & Rec. Dept. Currently there isn't much you can expect as far as service goes. They do have a grill in the Clubhouse at the turn. No beverage cart or outside service. (They did have a hiring sign on the Pro shop door.) Still, that wouldn't stop me from playing this course again. It was a good deal during the peak of the AZ golf season with the Phoenix Open in town. Aguila G. Played 1/17. Tee time 12:30p. $42.50 included cart. Small bucket $5. Ken Macdonald is a Tempe municipal golf course. It has some tree lined holes, but for the most part the layout is straight, flat and wide open.

Conditions overall were good. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were over seeded. The rough was left as dormant bermuda. Course played soft after rain the day before. Especially around the greens. The ball would land and stay right by the ball mark. Greens rolled true and were a medium speed. Fairways were good and firm. Course must get a lot of play. There were some fairways with many divots and greens with many unfixed ball marks.

Course has a nice practice range, putting and chipping area. Good course for all levels of play. If you want to play it longer than the card, you can play the "Tips tees" Makes the course play over 7000 yards. Photos submitted

Played 12/19 with JohnnyGK, Chilipalmer & dcoachl. This is a gem of a course, that is 45 minutes SW of Phoenix in the town of Maricopa. It has 6 sets of tees. Forward tees are 5036 yards. The tips are 7517 yards. It is very challenging due to the fact that the course has 109 sand traps on it. ( Did I say "sand traps" more like "Bunkers") To play well you need to control your distance and avoid them at all costs. They are deep with high faces. Your only option most times is to take your lumps and wedge it out back into play.

I agree with everyone else's take on the conditions. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens were in great condition. Bunkers were inconsistent. Some had plenty of soft sand others packed down with a thin top layer, possibly due to recent rain.

Full practice range. Service was outstanding. Outside service, the starter, beverage cart girl were all very pleasant and helpful. Had lunch with Johnny and dcoachl after the round. The chicken philly on pretzel bread was delicious. Highly recommend the food and the course. Pictures submitted.

Played 12/6. 1:24 tee time. The course gave myself and a friend the after 2:00p rate of $32 cart included. Course was pretty busy but we still played in less than 4 1/2 hours. It's a park style course with holes that are side by side on the front nine. Part of the back nine is played through residential areas. All around, it's in very good shape. Fairways are lush. The rough is easy to play from, but it's thick in some areas. Sand traps are good. Greens are nice. They are soft and hold good shots. Medium- Fast, 10 1/2 to 11. The course only has 2 knocks. Some of the tee boxes are not level and people just don't fix their ball marks.

Service was excellent. Beverage cart came around 3 times. Chef Chuck makes some good food in the grill. They don't have a practice range. However, they do have driving nets for warming up. They have added a practice chipping area and they have a practice putting green. A good value for this time of year.

Played nine holes today with the Club Whisperer. I know this course gets over seeded in a month, but it is in fantastic shape right now. The fairways are lush. The rain we've had has made them soft, so there is not much roll. The rough is nice and thick. It can be hard to control your ball. It produced a lot of "fliers." The greens were soft. They were a medium speed, about a 9.5. They held good shots and rolled true.

Grayhawk has great service all around. There are 2 full practice ranges that have every shot you can imagine. I think you can play for as low as $35+tax which includes practice balls. They are getting it ready for a Pepsi Tour event next Saturday.

Played 7/6. Online rate of $25. I played this course in early June when the greens were punched. I wanted to play it again and review it when they healed. This course used to be called Sanctuary G.C. Most people I knew weren't fond of it. It was very tight, with a lot of blind tee shots. On some holes all you would have were directional stakes to use.

A group of investors, led by Phil Mickelson, bought the course. They did a major renovation. They flipped the nines. They added over 450 yards to the course. They added & elevated the tee boxes. Landing areas were widened. On the edges of the course they cleared out the thick brush and there is no more ESA left of 12 & 13. It's now a very enjoyable playable course. #18 is a long tough finishing hole. 508 yard par 4 from the tips, uphill L-R hole.

Overall the condition of the course was great. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers were in fine condition. Rough was a little thin and cut short. Some areas were recently aerated. I was expecting the greens to bounce back nicely from a month ago. I gave them a kind '6' rating They have grown back in, but they a still soft, bumpy and slow. Around 9.5. If the course starts rolling them, they will be better.

They currently have a temporary trailer as the pro shop. They said they were scheduled to finish the renovations on their permanent pro shop in 6 months. Pro shop and outside service were good. They told us upfront they didn't have any beverage cart service. They weren't busy enough. The pro shop had drinks and there are water stations out on the course. We were a twosome and it took 4 hours to play. 1 1/2 hours on the front. Then, it took 2 1/2 hours to play the back. We got behind a foursome on #10. They hit so many extra shots and putts. We told them they really needed a ranger. The practice range and the practice putting area are good. The chipping area is so-so. Kudos for getting a moveable cover for the practice range. (See photo It's awesome!). Other courses would be smart to copy this. I would definitely recommend this course for GKers to try. Especially if you were sour on the old Santuary course.

Played 6/2 at the GK event. Prior reviews to this one nailed the details on the condition of the course. I gave it a rating of fair-good. I thought the greens were in good condition. They were very soft and rolled true. They were tricky to read. They were slow when you were below the hole, but fast when you were above it. The tees were fair at best. Many weren't very level and some had some severe divot damage. It's understandable since the course isn't long. Everyone plays the blue tees. The white tee boxes looked untouched.

Put a camera in your bag. It's a very scenic golf course with unique layout. It's tough for a course that plays less than 6000 yards. It has elevation changes, tight fairways, forced carries to landing areas and several blind shots. This course is all about hitting a good tee shot. It challenges you by making you hit many different clubs.

I liked the ride between holes 2 & 3. It's like taking a 30 second ride in a golf cart on an old school wooden roller coaster. Hey, can someone go out there and hammer in all those nails I saw sticking up.

Service was good in the pro shop and the club house. No outside service. No beverage cart. Which is understandable. It probably would be to dangerous. There are water stations. No practice range, just hitting nets. It has a chipping and a putting practice area. Also. I wouldn't look for too many lost balls. There's snakes and poison oak abound.

Thanks again to Johnny for putting on another great event!

Played 5/21 at the GK Plays outing. Johnny got us a discounted rate of $79 which included range balls. In the carts they provided yardage books. Over all the course was in great shape. Tee boxes were lush. Fairways were in good. There were a few hots spots in some areas but that's to be expected this time of year. It was very hot that day. (108) They did seem to be staying on top of it by watering those areas throughout the day. Rough was cut short so it gave you almost as good a lie as the fairway. Sand traps were in great condition. They had plenty of soft sand. The greens were great as well. They were firm but soft enough to hold good shots. They rolled smooth and true. I thought they were med-fast about a 10.5-11 on the stimp.

I like the layout of the course. The front nine is more of the typical desert style. Some forced carries off the tees, transition areas which cut across the front of greens. The back nine has a different feel with more water hazards in play. Water is in play on #11, #12, #13, #15, #17, and #18. The last four holes can make the tournament really exciting. #15 a reachable Par 5. #16 a short Par 3 enclosed with grandstands. #17 a drivable Par 4. #18 a right to left hole with a big lake down the left side.

I thought the service was outstanding. The guys at the bag drop were friendly and helpful. Saw the beverage cart at least 4 times. The ranger comes around and brings you a cold towel. The clubhouse is a great facility. It has lots of cool golf memorabilia. My only fault with the course was one of the water stations ran out of water. A few others were almost empty.

Yes, this course is a little more expensive then other high-end golf courses but it's worth it if you want a real PGA tour pro experience. Thanks Johnny for setting this up. It was great to meet some other local GKers. Photos submitted.

Played 5/17. 10:40 Tee time. Online rate of $36 included practice balls. Golf course is kind of in the middle of nowhere. It's about a 15 minute drive east of Troon North. Like others noted, you have to stop and check in at the Real Estate/Golf Shop trailer. After that you drive a few minutes down the street and park by the Practice Range.

The course is in the middle of the transition between winter rye and bermuda. It's your typical desert style target golf. Long carries off the tees to landing areas. Fairways were firm and fast. The rough was cut down real short and thatched. Most times it gave you an OK lie. Sand traps were generally good. My playing partners remarked that they needed more sand. I thought the traps I was in were fine. The greens were the main problem on the course. They were rock hard. You couldn't make a ball mark on them. You couldn't even dent them stepping on your ball while it was on the green. They couldn't hold any mid-long iron shots. Wedges were tough to hold as well, land it on the front and it will stop somewhere on the back. This really made the greens frustrating to play. You couldn't land anything short that would bounce on to the green. Too many of the greens have false fronts. You also couldn't get near the edges since they run off on all sides.

Note to the course superintendent: What the heck is going on with the pin placements on this course! You have large greens that don't hold shots, yet, pins tucked on the edges of greens. On the first Par 3, I know that was an illegal pin placement. 2 1/2 paces from the back edge. Really!? The front pin placements were the worst. At least 4 of them were put right on the edge of the false fronts. Putt it 2 feet past the hole and your off the green. Many other pins were on side hills. It was like... lets set the course up so hard that no one would want to come back and play it.

Practice range was good. Practice green was closed for maintenance. Chipping area was OK. We saw the beverage cart 3-4 times. Outside service was good. Currently, I wouldn't recommend playing the course. At least not until the greens get softer. Which might be Oct-Nov.

Played 5/7. A friend got us a good deal since he knew the head pro. We got a 9:16a Tee time for $49 instead of $69. Range balls included. It has been 3 years since I played this course. I know it has gone through an ownership change since then.

The over all condition of the golf course was phenomenal. Every part of the course was in great shape. The fairways gave you a great lie. The greens were fast, but they were smooth and true. Rough was not very long and easy to play from.

The course has a good layout. It's fair for all levels of play. The fairways are generous and the greens are large. The places to avoid are the deep sand traps.

It has an excellent practice range, chipping area, and practice putting green. We saw the beverage cart 3-4 times. They have an outdoor grill at the turn. Outside service was good. Definitely would recommend the course. They look like they are getting ready to micro-punch it soon.

Played 4/28 in a charity tournament that was a 4-man scramble. The over all condition of the course was very good. The tee boxes, fairways, and sand traps were in nice shape. Rough was short and gave you a good lie to play from. Greens were in great shape. They were smooth and true. Med-fast speed, around 10.5.

The course is a pretty good layout. It has a few tough holes. The GPS is helpful on a few Tee shots. There are 3 short par 4's were you decide the risk/reward of using the Driver. The uphill Par 3 called "the Volcano" requires an extra club.

The team had a great time at the tournament. We played well and somebody always came up with the big shot when we needed it. We shot 53 (-19) and tied for 1st place, but lost the scorecard playoff.

Played 4/21. Got a 1:30p Tee time online for $39. Included range balls. I would avoid playing this course for the next month. Currently it is not in very good shape. The fairways and sand traps were the only things playable. Greens were very firm and fast. They wouldn't hold shots with your mid to long irons. The rough was just thin dormant bermuda. Most times you had a lie off of dirt. It is scheduled to close for renovations June 2012. I hear every hole except for #12 is getting a major change. It doesn't plan on re-opening until October 2013.
