Disclaimer: I played this course most recently a few weeks ago, so I can't speak to current conditions as of the day pf this posting (e.g., any aeration that may have taken place since).

I really like the LA City network of courses, which this is a part of. It's a nine hole executive course, consisting of six par 4s and three par 3s. None of the holes are particularly long, but it's up in the hills, which provides some challenges, between the elevation changes, doglegs, and trees.

Like the other LA City courses, it's in surprisingly good shape, given how much play it gets - it's booked all day, every day, AND they allow fivesomes (which does slow play down, especially since it's also walking-only). There are bare/thin spots in some areas, particularly tee boxes, but for the most part, it's lush everywhere, and the greens roll well. And at a cost of less than $20, you can't beat the value.

Played Altadena last week for the first time in probably a decade or two. Not because I was intentionally avoiding it, but more because I was playing elsewhere, and don't usually care for nine hole courses. This was one of the courses my high school team used, which was my initial introduction to it.

Being that it was 20 years ago, it's hard to say this with much certainty, but I feel the course may not be in as good of shape now as it was then. I suppose this isn't surprising, as it's hard to keep a course in good shape for that long (particularly a public/municipal one).

So how is it right now? It's ok-ish. Like it's sister course, Eagle Glen, it only costs $20 to play (walking), and you pretty much get what you pay for. Tees, fairways, and greens are ok. Bare spots exist throughout, mostly in the rough, and especially in front of the tee boxes (almost as if they were waste areas). Bunkers are half decent, but not raked very well (lots of footprints), and sand is inconsistent, and has grass growing in some of them. I think I saw standing water in a few, as well. Greens are very small; so while they have color-coded flags, they don't mean much, since front, middle and back are only a handful of yards apart.

If you are looking for a course like this in the LA area, go to Roosevelt in Griffith Park. It's an executive course (six par 4s, three par 3s), but the conditions are better, and it's a few bucks cheaper.

Monday after The Masters! Had the opportunity to play this amazing club on 4/11/22, compliments of this site & Golf Moose. The Saticoy Club is an amazing track, with among the nicest conditions you’ll find anywhere. Immaculate is not an understatement. I can see why it’s so highly rated on this site.

You wouldn’t even know it’s there, as it’s surrounded by farm country. Kinda seems out of place, in my honest opinion. Nevertheless, it’s a wonderful facility, with wonderful service.

My favorite aspects, aside from the golf course itself, were the practice facilities: Grass driving range, two putting greens (one flat and one sloped), and two large chipping greens, complete with bunkers, practice balls, and even shag bags and divot mix.

As for the layout of the course, it’s a parkland style track, with moderate elevation change throughout. The rough is enough to affect your lie and quality of contact, but not overly penal. Fairways are fairly wide, bunkers are strategically placed, both alongside them and around the greens. Grass was perfect everywhere, from the tee boxes all the way to the greens.

Greens were not very fast today, negating much of the cautioning I had received about being above the hole. But I was also warned about false fronts, and that part held true. Greens were in excellent shape, with nary a pitch mark, save for those from our own shots. Lots of undulation and sectioning, meaning it is important to know where the pin is, and put the ball in the proper spot. They had pin sheets, which were very helpful, as the flags are not color coded, nor did I notice a particular rotation.

All in all, it was indeed a privilege to play here, and I’m so glad I did. I can see why they are going to host an LPGA event later this year, as it’s every bit worthy of professional tournaments. Thanks again to Johnny and GolfMoose for putting this together. By the way, I had amazing playing partners, who were both very good players, but also just great guys (and I think they’re both GK Gurus, as well). I think they must’ve brought the best out of me, because I played quite well. Can’t wait to do it again at the GK/GM event at Wood Ranch next month, and hopefully some GK Plays events, too.

Played here for the first time last week, after having heard about it for a while. It was fine. Pretty decent shape all around, especially considering how much play it gets. I can't say it made a big impression on me, either positively or negatively. Many of the holes are right in front of you, so it's just hit the fairway, hit the green. I will say, however, that you don't want to miss the fairway by much, because there are trees on one or both sides on many holes, as well as water on a few holes. Overall, it's a pleasant course that is in good shape.

Played this course last week for the first time. In a word, it was "average," or "ok." Basically what you might expect for a muni shortly after Spring aeration. I was told it's a good value, but to me, unless I'm paying less than $30, it's not worth it to me to play at a course with mediocre-to-poor conditions. Just saw more bare spots than I like to see, and the greens were exceptionally bumpy, likely due to having been punched not too long ago. I don't want to give the place a bad rap, so take my comments with a grain of salt; but I won't be interested in playing here again until summer or fall, when conditions are hopefully better.

If there was ever a perfect golf course in terms of conditions, Lakeside Golf Club is it. Well, and maybe Augusta,. But I reckon that unless I ever get the privilege to play Augusta National, this may be the nicest golf course I'll ever play. It's perfect literally all the time. Sure, they have to aerate the greens and fairways a couple times a year, like anywhere else--and the fairway grass goes dormant in the winter--but aside from those unavoidable circumstances, you'd be very hard pressed to find a more well-maintained facility. I like to say that every blade of grass is perfect.

The golf course itself is not overly difficult, though it plays longer than the scorecard yardage, due to undulation and wind direction. It has a very unique layout: It's a par 70, and features only two par 5s, both on the front nine. In fact, they are within two holes of each other - #2 and #4. After that, you will not see another par 5. The front nine has three par 3s. accounting for the par 35 on that nine. What's most unique, however, is the back nine. It is a par 35 as well, but since it has no par 5s. how could that be? The answer: Eight par 4s and one par 3. It's the only golf course I know of to feature such a unique track of holes.

Not much else to say except that if you get the opportunity to play here, take it. The course is perfectly literally from tee to green, the service is excellent, they have caddies, and they also have an EXCELLENT practice facility, featuring a grass driving range, chipping green with two bunkers & a short pitching area, and a brand new putting green (as of April 2022).
