Si under the sun and next to the mountain the course it's named for yesterday 4/25/2018. The track is an old course with plenty of tall trees lining the fairways. The best of this course is how dry it remains through the late winter and early spring. Carts can roll down the fairway while most all other courses are cart path only still or perhaps using a 90-degree rule this time of year. The tee boxes and greens are in good shape for early spring and the fairways are too, but make no mistake, this is a gentle muni course that has beastly trees lurking. This means most bunkers are now grass bunkers and the greens are quite accepting and the par 4s are usually in the 350 range; oh but the trees, the trees are there to make slicers pay with a vengeance. The fairways are hardly smooth, the roughs are weedy and the cart paths (when present) are there to give your kidneys a jolt. This is a course where you hear "fore" a lot. (Laughing) It started in the pro shop when somewhere yelled it just outside the window. Even the pros flinched. Beware, despite the trees, this course is not very private. Golfers are always nearby and yes playing off your fairway or teeing off right next to you.
So the upside is, Mt. Si is fairly dry during the wet season, it has beautiful scenery and the staff is congenial. The range is off mats, but I do believe there is a grass area too. The downside is that while it is an old course that is pretty well maintained, Mt. Si clearly lacks a decent maintenance budget for improving fairways and greenside play and giving the course the needed improvements required to lift it up from it's average status.
