aeration on greens is the first week of May (nothing in April!!!)

BTW, we will aerate fairways the week of april 10th through the 14th (fertilization will be included).

The course is greening up. The greens are down to 9/64ths like in December and are nice and green. They may be bumpy from not being rolled (lack of ability) but they should be fast compared to other munies. Take advantage while you can. We will aerate in the beginning of May. Then the height will rise. Our plan is very agressive for the fairways this spring. We plan on 3 fertilizations and 2 to 3 aerations (I'm sorry if you happen to visit on one of them). I am very excited about the course now (as you probably already know from the previous posts.) My plan is to continue my aggressive aproach. I give many headaches to Jim- the Starter Supervisor, but I believe my goals are well founded. I see positive results every time I complete a project.

The season has changed. The course is ready for spring. Bring on the complaints..
(and compliments too :) :) :) ! ! !

BTW: the reason I post today is because I am very impressed with the course today.

'I don't know who Kevin in La is, but if you work for the golf course, maybe you should spend less time making excuses and more time working on the golf course!!!.'

What would you like me to do Chris? (other than cleaning the bunkers)

I may have insulted your intelligence. However, it was for a point. We have a golf course that was built decades ago. This is a flood basin that was turned into a golf course, not a golf course built on a flood basin! Under ground is a hard pan (solid clay that does not drain). We have about 10,000 trees on both courses. I am trying to do good, but I am not a migician! If you want to stay away then I say "good bye". I'll bet not! We are making changes! BTW: 500 bags of fertilizer have already gone done on roughs and tees and fairways.

divot1957 - BURBANK 'In 25 years of playing golf I think I have seen the worst bunker conditions ever.'

Sorry about the bunkers. Yes you were correct, the wind was terrible. I dropped the ball that day on blowing the debris out of the sand. You need to know that the wind conditions were extra bad!!!

'There must be 8 different kinds of grasses growing. Tee boxes are not level'

= CORRECT: the 8 grasses are perennial ryegrass (dark green), annual ryegrass (lime green), bermudagrass (white), kikuyugrass (lime green), dallisgrass (the weed that I eradicated 75% of last year!!!!!!!!!), clover (the weed that I eradicated 75% of last year!!!!!!!!!), and whatever else you dream up. As for the level tee boxes, you are not going to get miracles. I ask for the projects, but it is a lot for than a simple 'one day effort'.

'the course isin pretty poor condition...Many bare spots in fairways.'

= "LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" WHat were you doing last February in Encino?

CHRIS, I am sorry to call you ignorant, but do you know turfgrass??

White stuff is not bare areas! It is the fluffy dark green stuff in summer that you have grown to love in Balboa that goes dorment white fairways).

BTW: I just asked Bob for 28 tons of fertilizer for the short term (to summer) on encino, Balboa (that's a lot!!)

'Tee boxes are .. very muddy.'

True, I irrigated after the tees were very dry on Friday. Obviously it was to much. But, it was not that bad!

Chris, You need to understand that we work our a$$ off for you. The course is not going to be perfect in FEB. Try May. B!TCH THEN!!

Thank You masoucy,

the driving range is run by a contracted LA city vendor named Michael. He runs the pro shop too. The current contract has run out, and a new vendor has won the bid for the p-shop and d-range. I probably know less than you about it.
Thank you for bringing up that point though because my employees are tired of having their cars beaned with balls from the range. I don't know who should act on upgrades, but SOMEBODY SHOULD! The range looks 60's not 2005.

We have a new mayor. Act out loud!

1. Ingram65, (Posted: Sunday, February 27, 2005): thank you for visiting the course. I see that you played two days after a major storm. WE CANNOT MOW UNTIL THE MOWER CAN GET THROUGH THE TURF WITHOUT GETTING STUCK FIRST. The rough was very long but unless we were carrying line trimmers throughout the course there was no option to lower the rough that day.

2. Swanky007, and mountainkid, thank you.

3. BrianH, thank you for playing Balboa. We just vertical mowed the greens yesterday. We will be cross vertical mowing them within the next two weeks. This will help to rid the bumpiness. We had a fungus problem leading up to the aeration on April 25-27. We have finally seen good signs of recovery from the treatment as well as the aeration itself. The vertical mowing will also help to rid signs of Poa annua seed heads (the white dots)

All- in- all, the course probably is looking pretty darn good (that's what people tell me). Some people think the course has never been better. I am happy with compliments but far from satisfied. I know summer is approaching soon ( along with heat).
I cannot help but love the results that I have seen in the past five months (thanks to the rain). We will be working very hard to perfect the course up and through the summer.

Please post questions while noting...

I work very hard at what I do. Changes cannot come over night, but I work for you above all so don't hesitate to give suggestions and critiques as well!

Kevin

BTW, please thank my three greenskeepers when you are pleased with the course (and blaim me when dissatisfied). They are incredibly dependable and are above all the main reason for your good luck games.
