Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Thought I would give an update on this course since the last comment on it was a couple of years ago. I've played this course many times and its a good layout but there are some things I wish they would do to make it better. They need to scrape the tee boxes flat. Many of them are domed from years of sand/dirt build up from aeration. Hard to find a flat spot and feel comfortable. The greens used to be amazing, but the past couple of years have been not been kind. Maybe they don't roll the greens anymore on a daily basis. The common complaint from locals is that the greens are too shaggy, lumpy and just not very good. Maybe the amount of play has increased to the point where its difficult to keep the greens in shape. It is now a popular course due to the increase popularity of golf. Getting a tee time for the weekend here is incredibly difficult. Tee times for the weekends are often filled 2 weeks in advance or longer.
Its great that the course is getting so much play, but it needs to still be able to adapt to the increase in play. Bennett Valley GC in Santa Rosa has massive amounts of play and their greens are amazingly always in great shape. In these difficult times where water is becoming a scarcity, the patchy fairways are no big deal and completely understandable.
I am not asking for "Troon" style conditions but as a longtime Rooster GC player its a little disappointing to see a course you play a lot become a course that you would rather not play because of the greens/tee boxes. If you don't have a problem with tee boxes and greens that get a lot of traffic and show it, then this course is great. Its a great walk and the layout is fun.
