Love the layout. Greens were SLOW - even in the summer, they shouldn't be that slow! Fairways and rough were good. Tees were OK...many uneven spots.

Played 10/4/2013 in the AM. Great layout, but the management has problems. Tee boxes are terrible. With so many tee boxes (5 on each hole), I don't understand the problem. You should be able to close one at a time to improve condition - this is low hanging fruit. Fairways were just OK - thin in many areas, with some spots of pure dirt. Greens are about to get punched so no issues with letting it get a bit thick.
People will drive to this place, but only if the conditions warrant the trip. Don't let the death spiral occur where poor conditions lead to lower revenue, leading to less maintenance, leading to poorer condition, leading to even lower revenue, etc.

Very good layout, but the conditions were poor. Lots of bare spots throughout the fairways, rough, and tee boxes. While the layout is top notch, the conditions resemble a muni. I expect better conditions from Industry Hills.

7 AM tee time. Course was extremely wet. Even with the expected heat wave, I think they overwatered. I'm not sure what this course/resort is trying to be. Layout is top notch - use to be brutal, but with technological golf club/ball improvements over the past decades, it's now a very fun course. So, track is great, but range is fairly (embarassingly?) poor.
Greens were extremely soft, bumpy, and moderately slow. Fairways were wet/soft and "choppy"...almost as if they mowed improperly in places...rather bumpy.
How can there not be a yardage book for this place? It's not as if the course is 6 months old? How do you know how far the bunker is off the tee or yardage to cut the corner? No book? OK, but at least put a range guide on the carts. Come on guys, this is the easy stuff. They play USGA/SCGA qualifiers, so a book has to exist. Just print the darn thing and sell it for $5.
I'm playing next week so I hope the water is a temporary issue.
I'm not sure there is a better public layout within 50 miles.

New ownership Jan 2008, and I don't think this will improve the facility. They are moving tees and pulling out design-critical trees while building a new clubhouse. If they want a new clubhouse, that's fine, but why destroy the character of the course? They need to properly prioritize their funding, as in FIX THE DARN GREENS instead of dropping cash to build a new entrance gate or destroying the character of the 18th hole.

The range is terrible in that I've never seen worse range balls - oh, they are new, but they go nowhere...literally.

I'm not complaining about the punching of the greens. This is normal. I'm talking about the multi-color extravaganza on each green - I've never seen it worse. The different colors leads to bumpy rides. It does not have to be this way - the owner and greenskeeper should take a short visit to SCGA, Redhawk, or Temecula Creek Inn. Those greens are in great shape.

It's a great layout (hopefully it will stay that way), but it's not in great condition right now. For my money, I'd play Redhawk or SCGA for the next month, and then take a look at Cross Creek - hopefully by then the greens will be better and they will have purchased new range balls.

This course is very close to US Open conditions. Course is in great shape. I spoke with one of the lead greenskeepers who said the rough is at US Open length - they just want to get it denser. Keep this in mind before you play. You may think you want to play a US Open course, but you may end up miserable. One of the members of my foursome quit after the 6th hole, and he was number 1 in line this morning - got up pretty early to play 6 holes. If you are in the rough, most will only hit it 50-100 yards, and who knows what direction. When the rough is normal, Torrey can be fun. With the current conditions, it's brutal and extremely challenging.

If you are spraying the ball, my first suggestion is wait to play Torrey until after the Open, when the rough is not impossible. If you still want to play US Open rough, then bring several dozen golf balls - no kidding!

Also, please play the tees appropriate for your handicap. If not, you are punishing yourself along with everyone else trying to play in less than 5 hours. In these conditions, unless you are a very good amateur or pro, please add 8-15 to your handicap to get a realistic estimate for this track. Think I'm wrong? If you are an 15, you won't break 100.
