Its a crying shame what has happened to this course. Such a great layout but in just TERRIBLE condition. Apparently they had a gopher village attack at the course two summers ago but what is taking so long to recover? Whoever is taking care of the course is doing a terrible job. Too bad, was always a treat to play the Wilson and Harding courses...
Disappointed in the course condition. This course used to be in great shape and was one of the best bargains around. Its a long drive to play a course with shaggy greens and fairways with bare spots and holes. May pass on a return trip at this point.
Played in the Quad tournament today and was once again severely disappointed in El Dorado, the supposed crown jewel of Long Beach golf. Are the greens ever any good at El Do? Who is the greenskeeper, Clouseau? I play here 5-6 times throughout the year and they are never any good...PERIOD? The rest of the course is only slightly better. Rec Park, Skylinks, and Lakewood golf courses are much better golf courses if only for the greens. Please, El Do is a great layout, can someone get a clue over there and get a new greenskeeper and golf course superintendent. Its an embarrassment to claim it as "THE golf course in Long Beach" in the condition it is in. See you at Rec.....
I played Arroyo Trabuco today and fell like this course is on track to be a really great deal. It has the layout and the price is right. The combo of price and the condition of the golf remeinds me of Rustic Canyon. Finally, an OC golf course that is affordable and in championship form.
I played Cross Creek today and it was as fabulous as always. The greens are amazing, however I wish they held a little better. They are very firm and most are either raised greens or greens with false fronts making it very difficult to run balls on them from off the green and as firm as they are you better have a deft touch from around the greens to save par or its a long day. Great course that is always worth the greens fees. Good-looking cart girls too......
I have definitely seen better days at Lakewood. This is the second time in a month I played here and the conditions of the course had not improved and in fact got worse. I am very disappointed in the conditions especially after all the money that was recently spent on improvements. The only redeeming portion of the course at this point were the sand traps. They are very good traps. The greens were very slow and very bumpy. This course used to be worth every penny but for my money right now I would take Rec Park in Long Beach any day of the week.
