I swore I'd never post again, but I just can't keep my mouth shut on this one. Played Tijeras on Wed the 6th and again on Sat 9th. The course is absolutely in fabulous (sorry guys, I'm a lady) shape! What a difference a week makes (from last poster). Wed was cart path for the first hour or so - in lieu of frost delay. Saturday was only a few holes. Yes, there are still tee, fairway and green divots, but the greens are not as bad as many other courses in that department. I have been playing TC for 10 years + and I can't ever remember their greens being this fast and true. Are they finally rolling them?! I always highly recommend this course and right now you will find the best conditions ever. Unfortuately if you play 10 am or later on the weekends you will suffer the 5.5 hour rounds, escpecially if they have a tourney going on as they did yesterday. We teed off around 10:30 and finished at 3 on the dot. Still the best value for your buck in So. OC. And the staff continues to be top notch. We saw the beverage cart 3-4 times on each 9.

Well we went back to play Oak Quarry on 10/18 and we were not disappointed! This is a great course with amazing visual holes. The greens are challenging as I stated before. You think you see a break and it is either opposite or non existent. Fun fun fun! The staff is the best. Here's what I like: They are closing the course for maintenance. More courses should do that or it defeats the purpose. I am looking forward to playing Oak Quarry more routinely. Even for us OC people it is only about 45 minutes both ways at the most. I highly recommend this course!

My husband and I played Oak Quarry for the first time 10/7 and although the winds were blowing 45 mph, we enjoyed this course very much. We look forward to playing there again without the devil winds! The staff was wonderful, and outside of the wind the conditions were great. Despite the wind, we both played very well, however the greens were quite the challenge! Can't wait to back and conquer them. I was reading the breaks mostly opposite of what they were and the speed changed dramatically - probably due to the winds. Very Fun indeed.

fyrmng,

You are welcome. I agree about playing other courses and there are some good ones with great fees in Riverside counties and others. We really liked Dos Lagos the new one in Corona. Back to Tijeras - we played again on Sunday the 23rd and we are really encouraged at the course recovery. They have even put in new flag sticks and cups - this is great news because the ones they had were the worst! If you hit them with your ball, they were deflected a long ways away and could cost you a hole in one. I am sure that overseeding is on the horizon as well as punching the greens, it is that time of year. That will surely help this great course recover. As for me, I will continue to play there because it is close, great price with the creek card (I have earned my 4th free weekend rate) and the staff is really wonderful.

As Tijeras is my home course, I can't help but respond to others reviews and update the course. I still play every Wed and 2 other times a week there. In fact I am playing today at 8. They are working very hard at getting the course back in shape and it is showing. The front greens are getting better and better. Although they look pretty bad, the are starting to roll pretty good again. They are not soaking the course quite as much now. Just because they had a little bad luck with their pump breaking and the fungus on some of the greens, does not mean you should write this course off or never come back. It is a beautiful course and will soon be back in beautiful conditions.

Need to add a footnote that my husband pointed out. I got a phone call while I was out there, from my son and he asked me where I was. I told him I was in the middle of a cow pasture. To that he asked, of course, "what are you doing in the middle of a cow pasture?" I told him that somebody decided to build a golf course in the middle of a cow pasture! Literally it is out there with the cows and the flies.... well one more reason I won't be back.

What am I missing here? We played Goose on 9/7 and I really don't get what all the raves are about. The course is boring, the greens were COVERED with ball marks, noise from airplanes, maintenance crews everywhere - OK due to overseeding. Thankfully the proshop gave us senior rate at 45 bucks each on a Friday. I guess I am spoiled by OC courses and the resort style courses. I really did not enjoy this course at all and will not return. Check out Soboba Springs, now that's what I'm talking about. However, I must admit the staff at Goose is top notch.

OHMIGOSH! High end OC courses please take a lesson from the staff at Soboba Springs! This course is a GEM! My husband and I have been so frustrated with our local courses charging top dollar for mediocore courses, with greens SO damaged by ball marks, it is fruitless to line up a putt! We played Soboba Springs on 9/10 and even with their current construction of the clubhouse and #18, it is still a GREAT value to play this course. It is in pristene condition. What a pleasure to putt on greens with virtually no ball marks! And the ones that were there were repaired PROPERLY! What a concept. We had 9 am tee time, arrived at 8:30. Staff member greeted us at the bag drop with a cart, loaded our bags and said they would be ready for us when we were. Cbecked in, greeted by name and told all about the current conditions, etc of the course. Told there was complimentary soda, water, ice and coffee and to help ourselves. We played in 3.5 hours - which is expected for only 2 players on a Monday on a course not located in OC. There were plenty of players on the course, but we pushed no one, waited on no one and held no one up. Perfect. I highly recommend this course, it is challenging for all levels, customer service is 6 stars, amenities first rate - they even have GPS on the carts. All this for less than 40 bucks per player week rate. I am still in shock at all the positive things this course has to offer. Even with the construction of the clubhouse and redesigning of # 18 this course is a must play. You hardly notice the construction. Granted for us OC folks it is a good hour plus drive... We live in South OC and left at 7 am on a Monday and were there in an hour twenty minutes.... but totally worth the drive. I am almost sorry to share the secret. But if you have the time, it is a must play.

We played Dos Lagos on 8/21. Frankly for a new course I was impressed. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The layout is fun and interesting. For me the course was very short - I played the reds. I could have played the whites, but then I do have an ego to protect. Conditions were very good even with a few very wet spots, but hey it is summer and we have been having very hot weather. The greens were great, especially for a new course. They held the line and what you read was what you got. I enjoyed playing here and will be back, because even though it is short, it still challenges you. My husband will be happier when all the blue tees are open. My only disappointment with this course was I drink a lot of ice water when I play in this kind of heat, (and it is warm out there off the 15 in Corona) and they had no "sanitary" ice. Just cold drinks on the beverage cart which is great but I do need ice. Even the temporary "clubhouse" did not have ice. The beverage cart was very attentive. We probably saw her 8 times throughout the round! Now that is unusual. Only other necessities lacking were yardage markers on the sprinkler heads (coming soon), ball washers, and clubhouse. Otherwise I recommend this course, it is fun and the price is great!

I play TC regularly - during the week with the women's club and usually on Sunday's as well. As the posters below say, the greens are in bad shape as are many tee boxes. It is a shame because just before their pump broke the course was in awesome shape. They are making some good changes, signs on the tee boxes, more yardage markers, fixing the tee boxes. Then they were without water for 4-5 days, very bad timing. It also allowed the fungus to grow on many of the greens. It is sad that many players don't fix ball marks and just because the greens are suffering right now does not mean we should be even less attentive. Be patient, I am certain they will bring this course back to fabulous shape. It is still a great value compared to many OC tracks. The staff is one of the best I have ever seen (I could be biased though because everybody knows me there). The Creek Card is also very worth it if you play there regularly. I have already received 3 free weekend rates this year.

I want to add a couple footnotes. The staff is very friendly, but a tad disorganized. I'm sure that will get better as they move forward. The carts are equipped with coolers and GPS and it is a good thing because the course is not marked otherwise. The beverage cart did not drive the course but rather parked near #7 and you pass it twice. The turn is right at the clubhouse so you can visit the snack bar there. The restaurant was not open yet and is due to open in September.

The course opened on 8/11 (delayed due to plane crash on 3rd hole). I played on 8/16. I was really looking forward to playing this course due to the website and emails (mistake I know I know) and I was disappointed. The weekday rate for a non-resident is $100 and totally not worth it. Fortunately I played with a senior and she got us both on for $59 (shhhh). Our tee time was 9 and they got us out on time although we started on 10 and I don't know why. Anyway, the round was just over 4 hours, we never had to wait on the group in front and we left the group behind us in the dust after 3 holes. But 5 of the holes on the front 9 are played with planes taking off every minute or so. And I mean right over your head! The end of the runway is right next to the course so you deal with the noise, shadows of the planes and also the noise from Palomar Airport Road traffic. The course is not that spectacular, but it is fun to play. I played the very forward tees because I was playing with a Senior and 2 beginners, and because it was my first time on that course. This enabled me to use my irons alot more and I hit 9 greens in reg. The greens are weird, although they roll true, when you expect them to be fast the are not and when you expect them to be slow they are not. So they are not consistant, hence I had 4 3 putts which is very unusual for me. The front greens feel like you are walking on foam rubber, and they are hard to fix ball marks. Although I played very well here and scored a little better than my handicap of 16,(I shot an 83) I won't go back unless they really reduce the rates. It is just not worth the $. My husband played Friday at 2:57, still had to pay $95 and their group finished in the dark. Well next we are going to try Dos Lagos, at least the price is better.
