Top notch service and playing where the Top 64 Golfers in the World play each February makes one realize that 'The Pros are good!' Get it now before Oct 2009 when the rates will go up after all the overseeding is finished. Carts are self braking and worth the ride with all the hills and distance between holes. Have a tee ready because the groundskeepers keep the teeing areas super clean. The sand in the bunkers are best I've seen and unlike anything else in Tucson. Grounds crews stay alert and courteous to you playing through. Beverage cart came through 3-4 times during our round. A must play course in Tucson before the 2010 Accenture Match Play in February. I paid $55 for 18 with cart from 1000-1400. For tee times online or call: http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/DoveMountain/Golf/Default.htm
Got the $30 Tee Time from EZLinks Specials the night prior. Most likely $30 due to the 1230 tee time. The course was busy for a Wednesday. This is an old course but it's still a challange with OB on both sides of each hole. You gotta drive it straight to avoid tall trees, houses, and the dreaded white stakes. Water threatens only the 10th and 18th, both par 3s. The greens look fast but they were slow this day. Worth the price if you don't mind the drive to East Tucson.
I hold a current Tucson City Golf Resident card. I reserved this course to get some friends back in the game of golf. El Rio is a good walkable course but the rough is very bare in spots and the sand traps are not bad for the usual brown Tucson dirt traps. The poor rough and sand make the course challanging along with tree lined fairways. The city rate is almost not worth playing this course. If Silverbell down the street were available, I would go there first. It was a last minute plan to play. That may be why it was available to play on a Sunday. Take all of the above with the thought that I did just spend three of the last 6 days walking around the Accenture Match Play at Ritz-Carlton. Wow! Now THAT'S a beautiful course.
Well Worth the Muni Price. Much improved since this summer. They're not skimping on water and the greens are in super shape.
Give it a try while it's not crowded and word gets out that it is better.

Early Friday (7 Nov 08) morning tee time at 0712 for $20 on ezLinks.com. At 40F, almost chilly enough for frosty grass. No wind screens installed on carts. Cart path only makes for a lot of walking for the wide fairways which are in MUCH better condition than they were this summer. Silverbell must have a new Greenskeeper for the greens are in the best shape I've ever putted on. And what a shame because they rolled true and I couldn't blame the course. Cart Path only and past history of poor conditions leave this improved course wide open for uncrowded play.
Got on easy as a single on a Monday. This was the first day (20 Oct 08) that carts were allowed on the course since overseeding. The fairways are in good shape and the greens rolled true. This course is like a jewel in the desert, since no homes are built yet on this Robson community. It was nice to have the place to myself at the 1 pm rate of $19. Before 1 pm, the rate is $34. Even though the course is laid out and is on fairly flat terrain, that winds didn't affect my score. The fairways are large enough to place the tee shots. Give this 'Out of the way place' a try! I did and will be back.

0600 Tee Time and was able to walk ($25) this fairly level course without melting by 1000 when we were finished. I live near this course and drive by it weekly, and the rains have greatly livened up the fairways and greens. There were a few ball marks on the greens that were slow to recover but that is because they are a little soft and hold well. Any backspin will definitely work on them. I was fortunate enough to test out the sand and even with the recent rains the crew is doing well to keep the traps fluffy and not packed down. It may be a little pricier than other nearby course's specials but it IS a county course and the cost is worth the well-maintained facilities.
Was invited by a neighbor to play Heritage Highlands. This course is a 'members only' course during the high season here in Tucson Oct-May but is open to the general public during the summer low season. We paid $39 + tax = $42.16. On the back nine, some of the views were spectacular. It was in exrtemely good condition shown by how the members take care of their course. The greens were not as slow as the attendent said. The pins were always placed with putting as the challange and not the approach shot. I recommend this to all who get a chance to play in Tucson during the summer who want an upscale experience.
It's been Nov 2007 since I've played this course and each time I truly enjoy it. Years ago I tried to walk it but the multiple elevation changes demand riding. The Value is great for a scenic 9 hole par 35 played twice around. You can get on this course easy for below $20 this time of year. Check out GolfNow.com or the Sunday Sports page. Course is in great condition grass wise. Check it out, you'll enjoy the round.
Rode solo in GPS equipped cart at $35 < 11:00 on a Tuesday. Course is in great shape for a desert course. Tight fairways and a few blind tee shots from the Blues make this course a challenge. But you won't be two-putting all the greens for they are large and consistent. What makes this an enjoyable round is the value and the elevation changes. I try to vary my course play but I'll definately play this again this year. Don't epect to see Natalie or Paula out there, Green Valley is somewhat of a retirement town.
Trini Alvarez / El Rio. At one time, home to the Tucson Open. Lee Trevino won here. Now Tucson City Golf's First Tee complex. At the time of this writing, (2 Jul 08) they are updating the range complex. This is a great course for those who find other desert courses around Arizona too intimidating. This course has tree lined fairways to calm some winds and challenge yourself when off the fairways. Much different than searching for your ball among the cacti. Two ponds are in play for four holes. El Rio may be a somewhat flat course but the holes aren't all straight either. The prices are right for a city course usually in good condition.
