Wife and I vacation in the area and play as many courses as possible. Really enjoyed Arrowood (12/27); the staff was the most pleasant we have EVER encountered, practice facilities in great shape, the course layout a nice challenge but not overwhelming to the uninitiated. No complaints about the conditions, other than the usual; players not taking care to fix divots, etc. Course maintenance seemed well above average. Only complaint, started too late to finish 17/18. We look forward to playing again summer '08!

My wife and I played Steele Canyon on New Year's Eve. The reviews are always really good and so we were looking forward to the course. Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed overall. The pro shop desk clerk was not pleasant at all and the driving range was poor for a "ranked" club. On the first hole (11:00am) we found that the foursome ahead was incredibly slow, as we had to wait AT THE TEE for them to tee off. This continued for about six holes before the beer cart girl called the marshall for us.
Yes, there are some stunning elevated tee boxes, but you'd better bring a GPS device or yardage book. Some parts of the course seemed like the maintenance had been let go for some time. The greens were the only thing about Steele Canyon that I did appreciate as they were relatively receptive, well-shaped, and consistently fast.
For the money, not worth it, even on a special. MANY better values within an hour's drive.

Played the course last weekend and was very pleased. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. The greens were receptive, fast, and rolled true. Good variation in shape and gradient, as well. Another consistent feature is the wind coming across the Delta, which makes for a challenge, particularly on the par threes. Enough room for error that will make this a favorite of the big hitters in your group!
The fairways are visually challenging for those playing for the first time; bring your SkyCaddy! Bunkers and water are in play for many shots, great risk-reward course managment. The sand is well-tended and consistent throughout the course.
My only real complaint is how carts are routed onto paths on several holes in such a way that play is consistently slowed if one's shots are errant. One par five ran carts off the fairway a good 140 yards from the green, while the remainder of the hole was still very wide. Likewise, holes #9 and #18 require you to remain on the path for the entire 300+ yards. Next time I play, I will walk, in spite of the hike from green to tee.
A good value an a great challenge for golfers of all abilities!

My wife and I really love this course! We vacation in the area once or twice a year and this is the BEST VALUE by far of all the golf courses we have played. The links style is terrific and, with the exception of #18, compliments the contours of the land. Cross Creek plays up its "away from it all" location and this is a truly great feature of the course. There are no homes, traffic noise, etc., to invade the golfing experience. Furthermore, the course is challenging, but will not bury you if you PLAY WITHIN YOUR GAME. Simply put, a must-play in the Temecula area.

Riverside could be a pretty nice course if not for the abundance of bare ground and spotty turf. The greens and areas immediately adjacent to them are reasonably maintained. Too bad the city-run course cannot catch up to what appears to be a long run of poor maintenance. HOWEVER, there is some great potential in the layout and some improvements are in the works, according to some men's club members in the know! All things considered, the price is reasonable. Try playing in the winter or early spring.

Will not ever play this course again. The noise from the freeway was intolerable, my wife and I both had a headache after nine holes. The character of the holes/course was oddly inconsistent, though there were a few nice holes mixed in. For a "resort", the parking was a real nuisance, and the driving range was very inconvenient. It was a real letdown, considering the website and other advertising claims. There are easily ten other courses within 20 miles that exceed the value of Pala Mesa. I might consider playing there if it were free.

RDR has been improving the last couple of years, due to course management and maintenance. In 2006, cart paths were installed on the front nine, and the back nine are due to be poured this summer (2007). The course is in the best condition prior to the intense summer heat; however, maintenance has been moving and replacing sprinklers to alleviate some of the more difficult situations, such as dry spots/excessively wet areas.
Overall, the course is flat and easy to walk. The layout is reasonably challenging, yet forgiving, as most fairways are adjacent to one another. Fairways bordering on OB are still generous from the tees, and are always OB to the left. Water is in play on eight holes, but should not be a significant factor if shots are played squarely. Greens are receiving a lot of attention, are fairly firm (improving), and maybe a 6-7 in terms of speed. Sand traps and bunkers are a bit inconsistent, wet/dry, which can be a challenge. Trees are fully mature and present a real hazard to errant drives/approach shots. Many 70-100 foot pine and eucalyptus trees line adjacent fairways.
In all, a friendly place to play and a reasonable value, especially walking! BTW, the course just got a new fleet of Yamaha carts, a HUGE improvement!
