Don't think this place has changed very much, except for the new construction. Seems like parts of the lay out were crammed in between construction. If this was my neighborhood course and I could walk there, I'd probably do it, but to drive 45 miles to play there on a regular basis, nah.
If you LOVE bashing tee balls off cliffs, cutting corners on doglegs and just beating the crap out of a golf ball, then this is your place to play. What a fantastic layout, a challenge from the back tees. #13 is one of the PREMIER 3 pars in all of Southern California. 12/13/14/15 are my favorite stretch of consecutive holes anywhere in the Untied States, closely followed by 4/5/6/7/8. Highly playable and scorable if you're hitting the ball well. Expect some waits on weekends, as there are some demanding shots that you'll need to have experienced before in order to have a game plan.
This is a wonderful track, that needs a little more TLC to be worth the $$$$, and if the Funicular is not running, price should be reduced. An outstanding place to play when the upkeep meets the required level to match the quantity of play. Bring your "A" Game!
Wonderful Course, A bit soggy to mushy, due to hot weather, course takes on quite a large amount of water at nights. No roll after carry, Drivers back up in fairway. So if you can carry it a long way, course will play to characteristics.
Nice course, plenty of opportunities for risk/reward. But BEWARE! For some unknown reason, it's YELLOW JACKET SEASON. Our foursome got stung 5 times in our round on 9/11, all during swing, follow through or putt. Most holes affected, perhaps from new construction in area, perhaps not. Was constant problem, worry from 1st hole to 18th. Will play again & often if insect problem is removed.
In the best shape I've ever seen it. True rolling greens, receptive and consistent. New layout on # 10 makes it more playable and a new scoring opportunity.
