Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played 2/15 around noon. $40 which is a great rate for this course. HOWEVER, I honestly don't see myself playing here again unless they make some serious changes to help pace of play. POP was atrocious at 5hr 35minutes. The fact that the POP is so bad here is too bad as the layout of very fun. A couple of tight holes but you have more room right or left than you think. Really hard to get a rhythm going as we were waiting on every single hole. Some tee boxes had lots of divot damage, but everything else was pretty lush. Greens were in very good condition. I don't know why they flipped the nines as we were backed up immediately on hole 2 (short par 3 following a short par 4). All in all save your money unless you want to make new friends with the group ahead of you.
Played early morning on 12/27 and was paired with a threesome. Paid $53, which is an absolute steal for a peak weekend. Course is in FANTASTIC shape. Not much else to say about it. Fairways were carpet, greens were rolling true and at the perfect speed (about a 10-11). Although the par 5s are long, they are plenty forgiving and give you plenty of options to hit off the tee. I hit four iron off most since my driver is an idiot. Bunkers are in good shape, the only exception is the main fairway bunker on 18 which is filled with little pebbles. Great round, great course, great value.
The last couple reviews really hit it on the head. Course is in really good shape right now. Tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. Greens here are TOUGH but very, very receptive. POP was right about 4:15. I wish I would have read the tips before as the breaks are very deceiving. Rolling pretty quick as well.
Don't be afraid to attack some of the pins as the greens welcome any well struck ball. Some bunkers were marked GUR and were my only gripe. One in particular on hole 4 had standing water and should have been marked GUR. The one I was was very, very hard and filled with small rocks ready to wreak havoc on your clubs.
The course is a blast to play though! Front nine is target golf where a 4 or 5 iron will soon become your best friend. Leave the woods in the bag as the course isn't terribly long and calls for accuracy. The course opens up a ton on the back but if you want to score well be sure to stick to the same gameplan as the front. The wide fairways and landing areas are really only there to entice you to try and break out the big stick only to find yourself in the junk and hitting 3.
For the rate, layout, and conditions, I will definitely be back!

Played 8/19 at the $50 member rate. Tee'd off at 430 and was able to finish 18. I came into this round very interested to see what kind of shape the course was in; especially considering that another similarly priced course (tustin) wasn't in the greatest shape. If TR and SF were in a head to head to match SF would win in a first round knockout.
The course is in fantastic shape. Some areas are marked ground under repair but the fairways are lush and hardly any dried out or bare spots are present. A few holes were cart path only due to GUR. Greens were hard but considering I played late in the day that is to be expected. Minor disease on small portions of some greens but everything was still rolling true. Bunkers a little firm but consistent throughout the course. Some poorly repaired divots on a couple holes but nothing major. Tee boxes in good shape. Course is hard no matter which way you look at it. Don't miss left here, trust me.
Overall, the course is in great shape and worth a play at the right price. GPS on the carts, good service, the whole nine. Don't pay the rack rate, play twilight or buy the membership and you'll enjoy yourself.

Played 8/16 for a birthday round. First off, the service here is absolutely fantastic. I was worried that we might get some flack for having a birthday round in our group but it was the exact opposite. Everyone from the pro shop to the driving range was accommodating and genuine. They really make you feel welcome from the time you arrive to the time you leave. The USB ports on the carts were a nice touch as well.
Now onto the playing conditions....
I will be honest here and say that I was a little underwhelmed by the conditions. I don't think the current 'immaculate' rating captures TR right now. Especially after playing some phenomenal courses in the past week. I was underwhelmed enough to feel a little bad about having my buddies pay the $137 birthday guest rate. The rough was inconsistent and uneven, in some places a mix of thin, burnt kikuyu and crab grass, and other areas being completely soaked. Your ball will settle in the rough so keep an eye for it from the tee, Standing water was also present in some areas of the course and something you would not expect to see at a place like TR. Fairway lies were generally lush, but thin at times.
Layout was ok, kind of felt like a really expensive, juiced up version of Los Lagos at CMCC. Would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit bored with the design near the end of the round.
Tee boxes were in great shape, flat, lush, and well-rotated. Greens were fast, but receptive to all shots. Being on the right tier is key here as some greens have pretty diabolical undulations (hole 5). Fairway bunkers were filled with soft, fluffy, white sand. I could be wrong, but some of the greenside bunkers were filled with something else and a bit more wet.
Overall, TR is kind of "meh". I know golf in Orange County is expensive, but with a $187 rack rate and a $137 discounted rate there are much better options in the OC and surrounding areas. If you have a birthday coming up then I say give TR a go, if not, go play a couple rounds elsewhere.

Played today 8/13, 7am $85. POP 3:15. First off, my expectations for Wolf were sky high and I'm happy to say they were exceeded. The course is in fantastic shape, fairways lies are perfect, bunkers light and fluffy. The greens were relatively slow but considering the undulation, slopes, and difficulty of some approaches, it was nice to not worry about your ball rolling 3 feet past the hole. Tees were mostly level with a few exceptions that were a little uneven, but nothing major. Was a great day for golf as the weather was unusally "cool" with a light breeze and only a couple groups out. Course staff was very attentive and nice. My wife rode along and they made her feel very comfortable, they even waived the ride along fee which was very generous of them.
I would be lying if I wasn't intimidated as I prepared for my trip here. I have heard so many opinions on tee choices and the difficulty of the course that I even began to doubt myself lol. Biggest piece of advice for Wolf Creek is to HAVE FUN!!! Imagine that Disney built a mini golf course through Big Thunder Railroad and then shot it up with androgen, that is Wolf Creek. I played the blues and seemed to be right in my wheelhouse. I would argue that the most difficult holes here are the par 3's as they are long, tight, and guarded. Off the tee, find something that you can hit 220ish and straight and you'll be golden. People may disagree with me but don't be afraid to hit driver as there are bailout areas on many of the par 4s that will give you some wiggle room. Tip about the carts, some of the paths are STEEP. Also, the carts have multiple brake "clicks", you may feel that your locked up after the first but you still have some more give for a nice gentle decent. You can thank me later.
Not much to say about this course that hasn't been said. It is a MUST play and probably my favorite round of golf ever. Enjoy the scenery, lose some balls, find some balls, and take it all in.

Played 36 on 8/10 with a buddy of mine. Course is in great shape. To echo other recent reviews, some scorched areas on some fairways but considering the drought it really wasn't a huge issue as almost all lies were perfect. What a fantastic layout, lots of elevation change and scenic views of some HUGE estates. Greens were in great condition, some a little moist with minimal divot marks. Greens here are really deceptive due to some differences in speed. Some green seemed blazing fast while other required a little more oomph depending on the grain I guess. If you think your putting well come here for a true test of your reading abilities. Bunkers were excellent! Soft, fluffy, and well maintained. Rough was NASTY, take a nice hack and hold on because this stuff was sticky and ready to shoot up your score. Get comfortable with your long irons and you'll score well.
Was a little irked at the POP during our 9am round as it took us about 5:15 to finish with pno marshall seen despite a call to the starter. Given all the "4:30" signs everywhere it was bit disappointing.
Second round was much better as there was no one on the course and felt as if we had our own private club. Staff was attentive and courteous. Wouldn't pay the rack rate here, but at $105 for unlimited play it is a must play.

Played 7/29/2014 and tee'd off at 4:40 pm as a twosome. POP was quick which is again unusual for this course, walked off the 18th green at 7:45. Costa Mesa City Championship is this weekend (8/2-8/2) and the course is starting to firm up. Fairways are pretty lush with some bare spots lie in the usual spots (holes 5 and 14). Rough was thick and pretty nasty, areas around trees and near bunkers were really long and tough to get your ball out of. Up until this week the blue tees have been off-limits meaning some of the par 3's had some pretty extensive divot damage since only the white tees are being used. I'm sure after the tournament passes the blue tees will be in good shape. Some of the tee boxes were uneven and crowned despite being pretty lush.
Greens were outstanding. Virtually no divot marks and rolling true. Pin placements are in some pretty brutal positions right now so make sure you are on the right tier or have your delicate flops and chips in the toolbox. The sand here is probably my biggest gripe here. Pretty inconsistent, some bunkers nice and fluffy while other are pretty thin. All you have to do is rake people! Anyways, always an affordable and solid round here.

Home course, play it a ton and have to say that it is in great shape right now. One constant at CMCC is that the greens are always going to be money. Tee boxes are in good shape as they prepare for the city championship. Some diseased trees have been removed in recent months but nothing major. Good lies in the fairway, some sporadic bare spots but overall great shape. Best value in OC. I don't know if I was stuck in the twilight zone during my last few rounds but the POP was right at 4 hours with no waits on any holes. Weird. Greens are in great shape right now as is the entire course. Wasn't in any bunkers so can't report on the condition.
First time playing here and have to say that I enjoyed it! Was a little weary at first as the 1st green is having some serious issues right now. Lots of unrepaired marks, old cup placements clearly visible, in pretty bad shape. However, every other green was in great shape! Fairway lies were pretty good, some a little tight, but considering that we are in a major drought that is to be expected.
I really, really like this layout. Very fun track that you have to think your way around but still very fair. Course knowledge goes a long way here. Keep the driver in the bag and hit 3w/3h and you'll be golden. The rough on some holes was a little mushy so not quite sure what was going there. Beverage cart stopped by a few times, very attentive. Beverage attendant is VERY nice. Didn't wait on a single hole, teed off at 11:50. Paid $63 for a Sunday morning which was a good deal. If you get it under $60 jump on it. $5 unlimited range.
