I am a resident and have played this course many times over the years. I don't know what's happened here, maybe they have a new pro or Gen. Mgr. but it seems it's turned to nothing but profits.
The fairways are paper thin in many areas and dirt in others. Lack of water and care. The Tee Times are now 7min, apart. 7min. is usually reserved for the lowest quality least expensive courses and now Torrey, the most expensive in town is at 7min.
I brought a friend (county resident) out for his first time and I was embarrassed. He paid $120 on a Thursday.
At each tee box we had a minimum 10 min. wait! On the first par 3 it was 21 min. just to tee off as 4 groups were on the same par three.
We teed off at 2:21 (not twilight) and made the turn at 5:32. We finished in the dark!! No marshals, no help to move things along.
I stopped in at the golf shop at the turn and told the guys we were afraid we would not finish, They said "well we are just slammed"! Of course you are you are piling golfers on top of each other!!!
Someone needs to come down off their all mighty throne and realize that although Torrey has beautiful scenery we are paying to play a round of golf not to stand around waiting, and waiting, and waiting to hit the next shot!
We are golfers, not just money! Treat us right, take care of your course and put more space between golfers. The two other municipal courses on the San Diego coast allow 9 min. and they even get jammed.
I will not go back until they do something. The sad part, they don't seem to care.

Woods Valley front 9 and back 9 were built at different times and the fairway conditions are quite different on each.
The front 9 is more traditional, with good grass, and the back 9 is more interesting and very pretty as it winds through big oaks, however I don't like the fairway grass as much as the front as it's chunky.
All the greens are the truest I have found in San Diego County. I've had many 30 ft. puts that roll with no bumps right in the hole!
The sand traps are also the best in the entire county. You have to wear sunglasses and bring a fruity tropical drink and a chair! Only thing is that since all the other traps around here have 1 inch of sand (or gravel) and are hard as a rock underneath it's difficult to chip out of the real deal!
All in all I love this course. Yes it can be slow but it cost half as much as say Encinitas Ranch were I have not finished a round in less than 5 hours in two years, and the conditions are much better.

It's a straight forward course in a nice area and is not difficult. The downside is that the golf shop is rather arrogant and they are expensive for the area. When they opened they were a premier course but a couple of years ago they let it go and now there are bad conditions everywhere. Patches of rock hard dirt in front of some of the greens and on fairways that seem to never go away. So don't expect what you pay for.
