Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played here for the first time on 12-23, and was not impressed. The greens had numerous brown spots and ball marks, the fairways was full of holes and soggy spots and the round took 4:45 to play! This said, the course has a lot of character. The elevation changes made the holes, especially the par-3's, very interesting. It's not very long, but you need to bring a straight game or you'll need a few more balls. It really helped that I played with two guys who play the course a lot because there are some blind tee-shots that make the first time difficult. Because of the low green fees, I'll probably go back sometime, but I wouldn't put it on my list of "must-play courses".
Played on 11/18 and course is the best condition in many years. Greens are medium- fast and rolling pretty smoothly. Not even very many leaves on the course. I stayed away from these two courses for about three years because of the terrible conditions: bare greens, bad tee-boxes, heavy (almost un-playable) rough and a complete layer of leaves almost everywhere, but I've played here twice recently and I'll be back.
Haven't played this course in two years because of the inconsistent (and downright poor) condition it always was in. If they could ever smooth out the greens and correct the terrible drainage problems on the back nine I thought the course would be one of my favorites. WELL, THEY DID! I played here on 6/26, teeing off at 5:50 a.m., and played in 3 1/4 hours. I've never seen this course in better shape. The fairways finally have some grass on them. The rough is thick enough to cost you if you miss the fairway, and the trees are always in play. I'll be back soon. Check out American Golf's website, "savesomegreen.com", for short-term discounts (one to three days in advance). I saved $5 per player that way. That's not a lot, but hey, that'll buy you a beer after the round! One thing- don't play the blue tees unless you're a fairly long hitter or you'll be hitting a lot of long iron and fairway wood second shots.
Love this course! It's always in great shape and is very forgiving. You can get in trouble if you miss the fairway on the wrong side, or if you short-side yourself on the green; but most mis-hits are easy to recovery from. I played here on 6/30, teeing off at 8:30. We waited on almost every shot, but it only took us about 4 1/2 hours to play. Donovan Daily always has discounts for this course. Be sure to sign up at their website or you'll pay too much.
