Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Took advantage of the Golf Moose Promo of only $109 to play on Sept 8, 2024. The course is 18 holes since they combined the 3 nine holes. The layout is good. Honestly, we don't expect great conditions here. However the course is in much better shape than I remember. The greens were very decent for Baja Mar standards. The fairways were playable and the rough was a hit and miss. The sand traps were nearly unplayable but some were ok. However the views were splendid and only $86 during Mon to Thurs and $109 Fri to Sun with coupon. It's a great value. Amazing views. Cool ocean breeze. Make sure you get a medical pass from one of the approved vendors like Las Rocas Hotel.....otherwise it's a long wait to cross back. Hope you get a chance to play the much better condition Baja Mar. Well worth the drive and make sure to get your lobsters in Puerto Nuevo. Muy Delicioso !!!
Played 01/21/21 , 3rd group out and it was a blast. The course is much better condition than I expected. Greens were in really good condition. The greens were fast when you are above the hole. Plus the course must be doing to something to cut down on the Geese population because the last time we played some green were almost unbearable do to geese crap. But not today. Fairways and tee box were is decent shape too. There were some bare areas on the fairway but overall the course is in really good winter condition. Range is open. Didn't see beverage cart but if memory serves the snack shop was open on the way back. We loved all the long par 3's and spectacular greenside bunkers. #3 is a beautiful Par 3. Absolutely will be back and it's a good value at $38 to walk weekday.
Played Jan 1 and the weather was Perfect. Literally t-shirt and shorts by the turn. First time playing the South Course. They are certainly getting it ready for the US OPEN. The rough was the story here. It is thick and difficult to not only find your ball but to get a club on it. Best choice is a wedge or 9 iron to punch it out. There is actually 3 different cuts, there is the 1st cut just off of the fairway ( very playable) , the 2nd cut and the 3rd Oh crap cut which looks like it's not cut at all. Fairways were in excellent condition and were the tee boxes. The greens where in very good condition and just the right speed. Overall the course is great to play and manageable if your in the Fairways. Absolutely loved the course and the tradition and the weather. Driving range is open. I learned, the waiting list is open too for stand by. Restaurant and Lodge are open but all food is too go. Get here early for your tee times and check out the pro shop, lots of US Open gear. Lastly, I heard from the pro shop, in order to keep pace of play, when you search for your ball in the rough, after a min or so, you can drop with no penalty. Still a 5 hour round.
Played MCC yesterday at 11:30. To my surprise when I got to the 1st green, they punched recently and lots of sand on the greens. If they posted at the Pro Shop then I missed it. Course is in below average condition. The greens used to be the best part of the course but it will be a few weeks before they heel. Good pace of 4H. Fairways (not all) were thin/bare in many areas . Traps (see many previous reviews about them). Customer service was very good at all levels. Best part about this course is the resident rate of $20 to walk for residents.
Played today at 7:20 and teetimes are spread out 10 min apart. Only a 2some went out in front of us and we didn't wait on one hole. Range is open. Great course to walk as it's only 6400 yards. Course in really good shape. Tee boxes have some bare spots but overall flat and good. Some standing water in some fairways but nothing to worry about. Traps were in excellent shape all things considered. Greens were running fast and in good condition. This is a LA County Course and these early tee times do not allow for the Senior Discount but my one buddy had no complaint because of pace of play, the very good course condition and the beautiful day in Pomona with the scenic holes. Lastly, Starter did ask if our foursome was from the same household.
Played MM at the beginning of the heat wave. It got up to 101 degrees today. But it was worth it. The course is in excellent condition and they have some promo going on at $31.99 with cart and free soft drink. Greens were running fast and fairways were in good shape. We teed of at 11am and it was pretty open. POP was 4 hours or less. Overall a great experience however will look for a 6am teetime next time to avoid the heat.
Played Monarch 9/24 on the Underpar all you can play deal. Service was 10 from the moment we drove up for bag drop off and valet. Teed-off as the first Tee time at 7:40am. Could have gone out sooner but we were a two-some and had to wait for a single to join us. Course has a rule , first group out must be a threesome or more. Course is in amazing condition. The starter told us the greens had been punched about a month prior, and were in excellent condition and rolling @ 11 on stimpmeter. More on this in a moment. Tee boxes were in terrific condition as well , all fairly level with no bare spots. Fairways were also in excellent condition with good green coverage. The rough was well maintained too. Sand Traps (and there plenty) were also fluffy and in great condition. The course is not very long but where it defends itself is with the well placed fairway bunkers and abundant greenside bunkers. The greens are also have lots of undulations were when I missed made recovery difficult. The greens were not only fast , they were extremely difficult to gauge speed and line therefore making 3 putts more common than 1 putts. One of my favorite holes was Hole #3 the short par 4 facing the ocean right off the beach. A well struck 5 iron leaves a mere 100 yard shot in. But with the pin tucked back-left it was tough to keep the ball hole high. There is a large drop off left middle than can bring your approach shot back to front of green. Plus going long leaves you in a grassy bowl area. Lots of fun. POP on first 18 was 3.5 hours and on second 18 was closer to 4.5 hours. All said, great day of fun with 2 rounds at a very amazing and well maintained golf course. Thanks Underpar.com.
Played 10/01 and 10/2. Drove down to one of my favorite golf destinations to Rosarito Beach for a golf weekend. We were a able to buy for $5 a 2 for 1 on-line for Baja Mar making our green fees only $50 each for each day on Monday and Tuesday for golf (slightly more for weekends). Much like the last review. Love going down to Baja Mar. The ocean Views are amazing and it’s a really well designed course. Course conditions never get above a 6 and that’s to be expected. Greens were green and super slow and a few bare spots. Fairways were thin in places but playable. Rough was tough when the grass grabs your clubs. The views really are spectacular on Vista 9 and Oceano 9. Signature hole is the 180 yard Par 3 all carry over water on Oceano Course. White Tees play 165 on this hole. Lagos has a great par 5 especially when played from the tips , which we do on some holes for added fun.
So here is the biggest tip for going down to Mexico. The last review mentioned the long border wait times and that is normally true. However Baja Mar gives you a FASTPASS for border crossings when you spend $100. FASTPASS is like the medical pass. The last Tuesday we crossed in 19 min and were amazed. Expect with the fastpass a 45 min wait or so depending on day and time of crossing. We also found plenty of AIRBNB options. Finally settled on a 2 bed - 2 bath on the beach for $105 per night.
Just a great midweek trip to beautiful Baja Mar and Rosarito Beach. Don’t forget to try out the lobster dinners in Puerto Nuevo.

This is my 1st Review. I played Griffith Park - Harding 07/19 for the first time in years. This course along with Wilson course would be minimum 5 hour rounds in the past. Not sure if everyone was home watching the Open but it was wide open for 10am Teetime. Our twosome finished in 3 1/2 hours. Made the Teetime thru TeeOff app for $29 special.
The range and mats were in good shape. Plus the practice chipping area and bunker is also well maintained and a big plus. The course was in very good condition. They are maintaining the course really well. The were watering green #1 just as we tee'd off. The tee boxes were beat up somewhat but always a place to hit from. The fairways were green and recently cut. The rough was green and cut but was a true penalty due to the type of grass. The rough always grabbed the club and made approach shots very difficult. I was only in 1 sand trap (#18 ) and it had good sand and raked well. We saw many greenskeepers working on the course from watering to cutting to blowing leaves off cart paths. This was a great experience.
Also learned that you can call the Pro Shop to make teetimes inside 7 days. No reservation card necessary. I stopped playing here in the past once my buddy didn't renew his yearly reservation card. But now with these options available, I will be back and often.
Hope my review helps you.....
