Good layout, beautiful views and challenging greens. Everytime I play there, they have a serious backup at the first tee and you can never gett on the course at your scheduled time. They still over book and often at 4 minute intervals, plus adding to many walkons. Play is always slow as they pack to many golfers onto a course that is not conducive to heavy play because of its narrow fairways and the lost ball issues. The fairways resemble a bad cow pasture and the sand traps are an adventure as they are so inconsistent in sand quality from mud to very wet to thin to an occcassional decent trap. This at one time was my favorite course to play, but in the last year has fallen into a tie for one of the worst courses to play(Dominguez in Carson is the other), I am not sure why I try to play there anymore.

This golf course was one of my favorites, no more. For about the last month according to my personnel experience and what other golfers have been telling me, it has become a disaster to get on at your reserved tee time and then the time required to play 18 holes. We played on Dec. 31 and teed off 45 minutes behind schedule, as all us golfers who were queued up at the first hole were a very unhappy group---we began to compare our reserved tee times and discovered the golf course was making reservation at a 4 minute interval. This amounts to double booking. Several golfers said they would never play the course again. Then it got worse after finally teeing off, it took almost 3 hours to play the front 9 and two of the golfers in our group quit and went home in disgust, and it required 5 hours and 45 minutes to play the full 18---we never saw a Marshal at anytime to speed up play. The staff you could see was trying hard and were very nice, but their hands were tied with the management policies as management has chosen greed over good customer service. This I always considered an upscale course, but no more as it is being managed worse than a public municipal track.
I still like the layout, the challenges, the greens and the staff. Maybe I will return in June or July.

I finally played this course on November 14 after being very cautious about wanting to play there because of some of the negative reviews I have read on this website. We teed off in the morning and it was a beautiful clear view that morning, you could see the "mountain" on Palos Verdes, you could see a faint view of the Hollywood sign from the 14th tee and that must be 35 miles away---the view alone was almost worth the green fee. Contrary to what I have read here, the fairways were very good and the greens were fantastic, no ball marks, the ball rolled true as the greens were smooth, some of the better greens in southern California-----but they were difficult to putt and I 3 putted more times than I usually do as they are tricky to read. Do not ever leave yourself a downhill putt, it can be brutal. The sandtraps were good based on the two that I was able to "experience", but my playing partner complained about some thin sand on one trap he was in. It is a well groomed course. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the people in the pro shop were very professional in their demeanor and actually appreciative that we were there trying the golf course for the first time and had a very nice disposition while checking us in, all golf courses should be lucky to have people in their pro shop like the staff on duty that day. The marshal on the course was nice, always waved and smiled to us during his rounds of the course and would ask us how everything was going, in fact he helped us search for a lost ball on one hole, then assisted in the golf ruling which would cover the situation I was in (inmovable obstruction and the proper point of relief). My only real complaint is they allow fivesomes during the weekdays and this slowed us up on the back 9. I definitely will play this course in the future quite often. It was a very challenging course with the greens, narrow fairways, the fact you very seldom get a flat lie and several interesting water hazards---but a very fair test of golf.
