Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Got to check Pebble off the bucket list last weekend. We played last Saturday on the final weekend before they closed the course for the annual Conquers car show. This was my first time at Pebble and I really didn't have any idea of what to expect. We had a 9:30 tee time and we got to the course around 8:00 am. After dropping off our bags at the bag drop, we went into the pro shop and paid the $575 for the green fee and caddie fee, ouch! From there, a shuttle takes you to the practice facility where they have an amazing all grass driving range, along with a big practice green and chipping green with bunkers. After spending about 45 min there, we took the shuttle back to the first tee which is right next to the pro shop. We met our caddies and next thing we knew it was our time to tee off. The conditions of the course were very good, but not the best I've played on. The tee boxes and bunkers were perfect, but the fairways and greens showed signs of "end of the season" wear and tear. Definitely, nothing to complain about. The views you get throughout the course are priceless which makes it almost impossible to concentrate on golf. Plus thinking about all the history of the course and the great players who have hallowed these grounds constantly gave me goosebumps. Like everyone says, a caddie is a must. Not only do they save you countless strokes, but they pointo out all the spots of historical shots. Don't be afraid to act like a tourist and take pictures, everyone who works at pebble, from the starter to the caddies, they all understand that this is a once in lifetime experience for most of their customers and they embrace this fact and encourage you to enjoy the experience. I know the price scares so many people away, but if you consider yourself a golfer, do yourself a favor and plan a trip to pebble, you will not be disappointed.
Have you ever seen a negative review on Goose Creek? Well, the answer is probably, no. I couldn't imagine anyone not enjoying the layout of the course, the immaculate conditions of the course, or the top notch customer service. With that being said, I have never seen Goose in better shape than it is right now. Today, we had an afternoon time and we couldn't have asked for better conditions. The course was extremely green and lush, the fairways played fast, and the greens were as smooth as any public course I have ever played. The course superintendent and staff should be commended. If you haven't played Goose, you are missing out on one of Southern California's gems. Go play it now, you will not regret it!
I had the opportunity to play El Do on Saturday morning (6/6). I have been El Dorado for a while now and I have to say that the course is in better shape than I have ever seen . The highlight of the conditions were the greens. The amount of roll out we were getting on our putts were something we were not accustomed to at El Do. The greens at El Do are typically the slowest amongst the three Long Beach courses (Rec and Skylinks being the other two), but on Saturday, they were faster than I have even seen out of a Long Beach municipal course. I was very surprised at how green everything looked and how soft the course played considering the severe drought. If you have a chance to go play El Do, I would recommend you do so soon and take advantage of the great conditions. With the Long Beach Open about a month away, the course should be in prime shape.
Tee'd off Monday morning at 7 am and we finished in 3 hours and 45 minutes. Course was in typical El Do shape with the exception of the tee boxes which were noticeably shaggy. Greens were a little on the slower side. If you can get a discounted rate, I would definitely suggest playing El Do, but I don't think it is worth their non-resident weekend fee which is around $65.
First time playing Industry Hills and I have to say that the course lived up to its fine reputation. After reading many reviews on this course, the common theme seemed to be that this course was the best value in the LA area, to which, I completely agree. Tee'd off at 8:40 for $49 which was well worth the money. The course was still a little wet after the rains from the previous night, but was still very playable. Conditions would have been perfect had it not rained the previous day. Fairways were lush along with the rough. The bunkers had great quality sand and were well maintained. But the best part of the course were the greens. Very smooth and true! Putts held their lines with little to no bumps. As for the layout, the "Babe" is very much a thinking man's golf course. It rewards you for playing smart and strategic shots and punishes you for thoughtless, stupid aggressive shots. I will definitely be playing here again soon. In fact I can't wait to play the "Ike" side. Happy Holidays to all!
Played El Do today and the conditions were in typical El Do form. The greens were good with a few bumps here and there. The kukuya fairways were fine with a few spots roped off for GUR. The only thing that seems to ever be a big issue at El Dorado is the pace of play. If you are teeing off after 8 am, you should be prepared for a 4.5-5 hour round. Out of all the LB courses, El Do's pace of play is the worst. If you haven't played El Do, I would recommend trying it. Its a good golf layout that requires thought and strategy as opposed to power and length. However, just be prepared for a longer than average round.
So after being told many times that I had to go out and play Journey, I decided to give it a try and it didn't disappoint. From the costumer service to conditions of the course, everything lived up to Journey's great reputation. The course has many great holes with some amazing views. The one thing that really stood out about this course was the visual deceptions. With your tee shots you really have to trust brain and not your eyes. For example, there was one hole where visually it looks as if the miss is short left, but when you actually take the time to study the hole and its slopes, you can see that the fairway slopes hard left so any miss left will funnel the ball even further left into trouble. I love that, it really forces you strategically plan out your attack. As for the conditions, I couldn't imagine them being better than they were, especially for a drought year. All in all, I would definitely recommend this course.
The previous reviews for this course werespot on. Its a great layout, but for the conditions of the course to be as poor as they were for a $200+ green fee, its definitely not worth it. Their tee boxes were more rough like than their rough. In fact, the grass for most of the tee boxes were so long that even when you tee'd up your ball, the ball was only about a quarter of an inch above the grass; it felt like I was hitting some drives fat even though I wasn't hitting the ground. The rough was terrible. It was bare spots checkered with clumps of grass or dirt. I would definitely stay away until the conditions of the course greatly improve. Right now, I wouldn't pay $50 for this course.
So after vacationing in Mammoth for many years, I finally decided to play Sierra Star. I have always been scared off by the green fees (rack rates are $125), but after seeing a golfnow hot deal for $65, I jumped on the opportunity to play. If I only had one word to describe this course it would be "amazing". To be perfectly honest, the conditions of the course are not what you expect from a $100+ course, but what this place lacks in conditions it makes I up in views. The majestic Jeffery Pine tee lined fairways definitley made up for the bumpy greens. The beautiful mountain backgrounds makes you overlook the ocassional bare spots in thr rough. And the natural mountain streams running throughout the course makes you forget about the price you paid to play. If you ever get a chance to play here, jump on the opportunity because most likely, you'll never play another course like it.

First time playing Oak Creek and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. We had a golfnow time at 2:30 for $55, which turns out is a great rate for this course. Other than the bunkers, the course wss great shape. The greens were a little slow, but otherwise good. I absolutely love the layout of the course; Tom Fazio did a great job with this piece of property. This is definitely a course where you have to put yourself into position. If you find yourself out of position, you can definitely make a big number. I would recommend this course but not at the rack rates. The most I think this course is worth is probably around $75 range.

What an amazing course. Has to be one of the best Nicklaus courses I have played. Each hole is memorable with character and visual beauty. The practice facility at Coyote Springs is equally amazing. Their all grass range is huge and along with their putting and chipping greens, everything is first class. I have no complaints about this course other than the distance from Vegas (its about a 50 minute drive from the Strip). Holes 9 and 18 are possible two of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring holes I have ever played. If you are in Vegas and you are looking for a place to play, make sure you make the trip to Coyote Springs.

Played a twilight round today at Big Rec. Booked a Golfzing time for $14 at 2 pm and managed to tee off a tad earlier. The fairways were in traditional Big Rec shape which means they were pretty lush (kikuya lush) with no real bare areas. The greens were real bumpy today although that could have been due to the late tee time. They were soft and receptive and were rolling a tad slower than normal which is still pretty quick. The course recently renovated many of their bunkers and I have to say that the new sand is great.
The course was really busy today and for the first 4-5 holes, pace of play was pretty slow. We managed to make the turn in about 2.5 hours. Instead of playing hole 10, I went back to hole 3 and played the front 9 again. It turned out to be a great decision. I was able to get in 18 holes (though I played some holes twice).
For those of you who haven't played Big Rec, I would definitely recommend it. Although pace of play is never great and the course conditions are never immaculate, the old tradition layout of Rec really makes playing here worth the experience. The layout of Rec really reminds me of that of Riviera. There are many long and challenging dogleg par 4's to complement the handful of short ones. Locals call holes 6, 7, and 8 the Amen Corner of Rec.
