Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii! We played this course the week of the US Open at Pebble. It is a really nice course. It is not very difficult, but has a lot of fun holes with interesting layouts. It was in very good condition. Decent greens. Good value for the price. Will definitely repeat.
This is a really fun, hilly course that is well maintained. We played on an uncroweded Monday for $75, including lunch. Will definitely return.
Best course in Monterey? Better than Cypress, Pebble, Spyglass, the Dunes at MPCC, or even Bayonet? I don't think so. However, I must admit that Poppy has grown on me over the years. If you're an NCGA or SCGA member, its a great deal at less that $100, and the layout is really nice, with the exception of the unusually large and often bumpy greens.
If Poppy were located anywhere else it would certainly get more respect. Its like a hot chick in the middle of a room full of movie stars. Normally she would turn people's heads, but not in this crowd!

This course is the absolute best value in California. Only Spyglass and PGA West are harder, and if the wind is blowing (which it usually does in the afternoon) play for bogeys and pray! Great layout. Fast greens. Incredibly long from the back tees. Not crowded when I played it either.
I hate desert golf (no trees, ocean). But this course is in my top 5 in California. I just love the layout and the views. Expensive but worth it.
Want to hit great shots and get totally screwed? Want to play on minature golf greens? Then play Spanish Bay. This course is not that bad, but considering the price, the are a lot better courses for your money in Monterey.
If you're in Monterey, its totally worth the hour drive to this classic course with tight fairways, lightining greens, and hilly lies. Hole 16 is just amazing! My favorite par 4 on the planet.
My favorite course. Pebble is the most beautiful golf course in the world, but unless the wind is blowing, its pretty tame. Want to challenge every part of your game? Play Spyglass for $200 less. If you're over a 9 handicap don't even think about playing the blue tees.
