The course was a little worse for wear. Chipping around the greens was tough because the grass was tight (thin) and firm. Todays round (July 13) was much more pleasant because the grasses were lush and full you could get a club under...Still some firm spots around the fairways. Greens were medium fast I was impressed...Greens had some ball mark damage (people dont fix their ball marks anymore pisses me off)...Price was decent, course was fun, knocked out 18 holes in 4 hrs. (playing skins! )
Just played July 6th. Teed up at 8:30. No wind, little gray in the morning. About 10am the sun broke out and the winds stayed slow. Was a perfect day at Torrey. Holes 2 through 6 had a lot of workers on (they were preparing for the Jr. World Golf). Winds got tough around noon-ish on, but we were pretty much done. Great facility. Recommend the BLAT sandwich on the terrace. Practice mats at the range were cheesy. Fairways were good, but had a lot of verti-cut lines. Greens were excellent, views were even better. I've played Princeville in Kauai, this was just as good.
If you want a great test for accuracy off the tee, fairway lies and slopes downhill/uphill with great rolling true greens this is a great course to play. I was very impressed with the greens. The heat/sun is starting to take its toll around this course, and some-what in the fairways, but the greens get a grade A in my book.
Played friday(6/26/09) afternoon, tee time no problem ,around 7 pm when we finished, no one was there! (played a few extra holes).... greens were a little firm, thought they would be fast but were normal speed. some fairways were good shape some had bare spots (something the course has been trying to address) the rough is thick and deep in alot of spots so watch your ball well if you hit it off line! bunkers and sand are probably the best thing on the course! greens are a challenge because of the shape and undulations. This is not a long course and you can score well if you hit it in the fairway and putt well...best thing about it the price 20 bucks!
