This is our third day playing in Naples area and all the courses we have played are stand alone courses and not weaved through housing or community complexes and that really adds to the day. This Jack Nicholas course was really great, picturesque, good layout and in great condition. The greens were tiff eagle and we were told the fairways were Champion grass. The weather was pretty warm but there were plenty of water stations and the refreshment cart was around frequently/

If there was any complaint there was little explanation on the card relative to hazards and there were little or no hazzards stakes around the water areas.

The greens were fast and undulating and the fairways had good landing areas. Not that we always found them.

The is 25 miles north of Naples and well worth a visit.

Played this course October 7th 2015 - Wednesday. The staff were pleasant and facilitated an earlier tee time than we had.
The Course was very wet and there was no run following the torrential storms related to Hurricane jaoquin and various low pressure systems.

There are no bunkers on this course but it is bordered continuously by lateral hazard lines on both sides of the fairway. Any shots not dead center and slightly offline tend to roll out of bounds. We were informed by the golf shop that the Bermuda bent grass greens are sanded every Wednesday and this was case the day we played.

There was little information on the yardage card and the playing card regarding drop areas in relation to the water hazards. This was a difficult to course to play albeit that it was the first visit, not forgiving. our group had 12.2 to 18.2 GHIN handicap and the slope of 122 was a challenge for all.

This is not a replay.

Monday 17th November 2014 - Day two of Florida trip played World Woods - Rolling Oaks...well we nearly did. Shortly after commencing the rain started and was closely followed by Thunder and lightening. We came off after eight holes.

What we saw and played was really good, Tee boxes, Fairways and Greens all in good condition.

The weather prevented us from seeing the course at it's best. Would definitely play again if I get the opportunity.

Thursday 20th November 2014 - Day four of our Florida trip, temperatures getting better after two of days freezing weather. Played Westchase from the White tees, 6200 plus yards and 125 slope. The course is in excellent condition, had been overseeded a couple of weeks ago and was really filling out. Some of the fairways were challenging, bordered with water on one side and hazards or out of bounds on the other side. The greens were in really good condition and ran smooth and true. Undulations and pin positions made being below the hole a bonus.
The course was not very busy and we set our own pace of play. Like any course managing ball positioning and hitting the landing areas pays dividends.

On golf trip in Tampa Area from Bermuda played Saddlebrook Resort - Palmer Course on the first day. Resort and course staff really helpful and courteous and Kyle in the Pro Shop was a big help in getting the day started. The course was manicured and in excellent shape and while we were informed that the greens were running at 8.5 to 9.5 they seemed to be a lot faster. Grass is Tiff Eagle, greens have big undulations and the starters advise to put the ball below the hole was good advise. The course was open and fairly forgiving, there was water was on most of the holes but did not really come into play, the fairways were in good shape, no deep rough. The pace of play was good and we were not held up on any of the holes. A definite to play again if in the area.

Good Fiday, 29th March 2013 played the El Campeon course at Mission Hills Resort at Howey in the Hills north of Orlando Florida. Played off the Blue Tees 6600plus yards and was a bit of a stretch for the group only two of our eight scoring below 90. The undulations and elevation changes on some of the holes of this course is most un-Florida like and adds to the day.

The course is always in great shape, from tee boxes, fairways to greens, bunkers and the rough they do a great job on course preparation and maintenance. The water table is low these days and was not aware that there had been low rainfall for a period in the area but several of the water holes, ponds and hazards were the lowest I have seen them ever.

The pace of play was good, no hold ups and everything moved along well, the beverage cart was frequently available and the round was just on 4.5 hours.

Always a replay if in the area.

PLayed Metrowest Thursday 28th March 2013. Frost delayed start - Florida having a cold spell this week.Eventually got off and as usual the course was in excellent condition. A couple of big trees were down between holes 4 & 5 following the wind squalls earlier in the week, maintenance were clearing up. The course is fairly wide open but still managed to find a few of the bunkers. The sand in some of the bunkers varied some were very dry silca typ sand others wet heavy sand. The fairways were in great shape and the rough was 3-5 inches and evenly cut throughout the course. Greens were in great shape. Just a pity that some golfers are so lazy about repairing pitch marks. The greens were fairly fast but ran true.

Pace of play was good, Beverage cart was always around and the weather warmed up. Definite replay any time I am in Central Florida. One of my favourite courses in the area

Played Sunday 24th March 2013 First day on golf trip. Always enjoy a day out golfing and everything was fine but this course had an average layout no holes grabbed your attention or were memorable.

Will not necessarily have this on the repeaters list.

Played on Tuesday26th March 2013 - cold weather for Florida - 60 degrees and the added factor of wind chill. Pace of play was medium paced, course was in good shape. Issue between the cards we were given, the colour of the tee box markers and distances.

The course is very forgiving, open links style course, well grassed and maintained. The ball is nearly always playable. Few trees and no water to speak of. The wind certainly played a big part in the day and the par four and fives on the back nine into the wind were playing one to two shots more.

They had a deal for $19.00 replay but the wind and cold beat us. A definite replay at some time in the future

Played Saturday 13th October 2012. Course was in excellent shape both fairways and greens. The course was full and pace of play slow the starter gave us fair warning and a thorough briefing on what to expect on the holes. Like all courses you play for the first time there are always hidden or unexpected aspects but if you read and follow the advice on the back of the card some problems may be avoided. The advice relating to hitting less clubs on the par threes with severe elevation change, drops of over a hundred plus feet , should be taken on board. The fairways on some of the holes are narrow and a challenge but there are landing areas and if you focus and play within yourself a good score is to be had. The fairways were lush and in great condition, cart paths only having just come out of over seeding. The greens were in good shape apart from one or two pitch marks left unattended by some of the Saturday golfers. The greens were running fairly straight but medium to slow in pace - you need to commit and get the ball to the hole. With six par threes and four par fives this course has a yardage of just over six thousand yards but do not be fooled there are plenty of challenges. Played the Blue tees and while the first major elevation change is up hill on hole number four the number one stroke hole this hole can be had with a well placed tee shot the same for hole number 16 the second stoke hole keep it left of the tree and you have a good approach. Enjoyed the course , the restaurant was excellent, the staff courteous, a definite if I am in the area would play again but probably want to do it mid-week.

Friday 12th October 2012 first day of play for Devils Claw after overseeding. Car Paths Only - lots of walking. The course was in pristine, immaculate condition - fairway, greens and tee boxes no sign of usage. You had the feeling that these are the conditions that they see on the pro tour. Played the Gold tees and with the breeze and the lack of roll out saw us chipping into the pins on a number of holes. This was not a windy day but the breeze was a real factor. A lot of bunkers on the course was set up to catch the errant tee or fairway shot to the green. The landing areas are fairly generous. If you are playing this course would suggest you make your tee selection wisely. Great layout a definite would love to play the course again sometime.

Thursday 11th October played Mesquite 9 then Ironwood 9. Mesquite was cart paths only, the course was lush and had recently been overseeded. Little roll out on the fairways. The greens were receptive but slow - you needed to be firm with the puts - the ball runs true.
The course layout was good, no hidden dangers, the fairways were forgiving and slopes on the sides tended to kick the ball back into play.
Ironwood has not yet been overseeded, grasses were dormant and fairways thinning out a bit, lies were a little tighter and you got a lot more rollout. Greens were in good condition and a lot faster than Mesquite.
Definitely a play again course.
