American Golf Does Not Care About Golfers:
Five days earlier I booked today's tee time at Skylinks. At no time when booking the time or when checking in an hour early did I receive any notice that all the greens were punched with excessively heavy sand applied across the punched greens and over several greens entirely, much of the sand should have been broom-ed off the greens. I play Skylinks often, it is bad enough that it is overpriced, but they should show the golfing public a little concern for the quality of play by providing a warning about poor playing conditions or a discounted rate. The management cares even less for their staff as they give no no direction in handling golfer complaints and show no regard for customer service to the local golfers their business relies upon. The staff mentioned that they received constant complaints about the condition the course was in due to the excessive sanding. By the way they will be punching the rest of the greens in about 2- 3 weeks, do not expect any warning but do expect to pay full price regardless. Stay away from Skylinks until at least November.

I received an e-mail from the GM of the course explaining staff had been trained to inform players of conditions before going out. He also offered a discounted greens fees next time I play there. We will see if actual policy changes at Skylinks.

I am usually a tried and true fan of Big Rec, played twilight 8 Jun 15. At least a third of the greens have a half or third of their surface sandy, plugged or amateurishly sodded over. The staff is generally on top of things but that day they could care less about people jumping onto the course on #2 either without paying or going through the starter and slowing up we paying / following the rules golfers. Called for the Marshal to address the hole jumpers / non-payers which was a complete waste of our time and his. Sadly, if you want to play on decent greens stay away from Big Rec for a few months, which is a shame really. If you want to pay for your round or at least follow the procedure by checking in with a starter and play with others who do the same, stay away from twilight golf at Big Rec.

Skylinks is usually the last of the Long Beach courses I choose to play because it is a bit overpriced in my opinion. Well, I played there Tuesday 13 Nov, and had a good round the course was in decent shape even with recent aeration etc. However, we had two groups (possibly 2 five-somes) playing in front of us, they were terribly slow, we waited a minimum of 5 minutes for them before each shot, entire holes open in front of them and groups stacking up behind us, no "ready golf" was in evidence. After giving them ample time to speed up we requested a Ranger. The Ranger showed up, very useless, he said these same guys are "always" slow, we asked him to do his job and request they speed up, he did not seemed interested in doing much. He actually said if he stays after them to speed up they may call me a "racist," give me a break! I mentioned that since this seems to be a regular problem, and I heard these guys on the range say they had a time the following week, that perhaps they should be in jeopardy of losing their regular time if they cannot speed play up. The Ranger said that would be a decision up to the General Manager so the Ranger was no help.
The round took 5 hours, 10 minutes.

Played here today (12 July 12), the course was empty, later I found out why. Every green on the course has some sort of funky disease, these greens are usually near perfect, fast and healthy. Today it was far from that, every part of every green had areas where cracks of dirt were visible and the surface was slow and rough. We were told the damage was from heavy play, there is no way that is the cause of the damage, their greens are in trouble. I would give this place a month before I played it again, usually I am a big fan or Arroyo, but I plan to skip it for at least a month.

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
