Reno has had some good water shed this year so the area is soft an well watered. The winds were a little intimidating but after the first 2 holes it died down. The Resort at Red Hawk is a very well designed and maintained course. there is a fair amount of water on the course. The wetlands provide lateral hazards in this usually dry climate. The fairways are not narrow but, there are many bunkers on each. The trick on this course is to play smart, pick your shots. The greens are large on most holes and the fronts are usually open for fairway approch shots. In conclusion, I like this course and the green fees are not to bad. They have an outstanding restaurant and bar at the 18th green.
I grew up playing this course. It is a muni course so, it is worth the low cost to play and it seems to move pretty well. The fairways are wide and the rough is sagebrush and dirt. There is a small amount of water on the course that hides well. The ground is hard, which for Reno that's pretty standard for muni's (Not much moisture in the air). It's inexpensive and fun but not a postcard moment.

This is probably the oldest quality course in the Reno/Sparks area. Though Reno is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountians, the area is desert. This course uses the desert as the rough. The fairways are most often short grass and firm. The rough is sagebrush and dirt, so sometimes you can hit from the rough, but if you're in or under the sagebrush pick it up. Watch for snakes! The fairways are wide enough and firm, this makes a good drive GREAT! The greens are usually on the firm side, but still playable. The course is fun and challenging. Finally, number 15 makes the whole thing worth while. From the 15th tee box you can see a 270 degree panaroma of the Reno/Sparks area. The hole is an island par 3 from an elevated tee box, about a 70 foot drop to the green, bring your cameras. Good Luck!
