I essentially consider this my home course and play it regularly as it's a fun layout that a mid-handicapper should be able to post some low scores on while offering enough of a challenge to be repeatedly interesting. The main defense here are the trees so if you're straight off the tee you're gonna do great. Front 9 is especially easy with short par 4s and generally flat. Back 9 is my favorite as you'll get a little more elevation. Played here Sunday 7/24, hoping to feel better about my game after a rough round the previous day. Noticed the course right now is still in good shape, especially the greens. They are soft and you won't get much roll out on approaches and you probably have to putt the ball harder than you think to get to the hole but roll pretty true. Fairways have their thin spots but mostly offering good lies right now. Tee boxes can be unlevel or divot-filled but aren't too much of an issue. I always tell people how great this course is and maybe I'm biased but between the facilities being well kept and the service being very good, it really keeps me excited to go back.

I like Alhambra for the same reason most people do: It's very short, and relatively easy. All the holes are right in front of you, for the most part, and as long as you can hit it straight, you'll have plenty of scoring opportunities.

Conditions are fair right now. I would say pretty good, but that really only applies to the greens. Everything else is mediocre-to-good. There are some bare spots in the fairways, which is always unsightly, and the bunkers are fine, but a little firm/compact (but not thin, so they're playable). Rough is fine for the most part, as are the tee boxes, though the grass was a little too long on the tees, such that your tee wouldn't stick above the grass or in the grass as much as you'd like.

As for the greens, they were the highlight of the course conditions (as it should be). They are very lush, and roll pretty well. There are some ball marks here and there, but on a municipal public course, what do you expect? All in all, it's a really fun course to try to go low, and the price is as affordable as any regulation course, so I will certainly be back for more.

All other tees just fine. Fairways have good coverage lies and roll. Avoided all bunkers but they all appeared playable. Great customer service at check in. Recommend.

Great customer service at check in from Lizbeth. First off at 5:30 walking and done in 2.5 H. Found the course to be in very nice shape. Tee boxes were fine and # 7, 8 and 11 are being redone. So these 3 par 3's are playing shorter. Fairways all had good coverage and no issues with lies/roll. Traps were wet though and need some refreshing at the moment. Greens were great. IMO best I have ever seen them. So kudos to the staff for the great work. $17 senior rate to walk. Restaurant was open at 6 as well. I really like all the improvements that have been done on this course since Billy Casper then Troon took over.

Played Friday 5/6 as a two-some joined by a single, teeing off @ 3:40. Not going to get too detailed. The course is in nice overall shape and they generally keep it clean. The greens are in nice shape, running medium fast which seemed slower initially because the greens here more often are on the quick and tricky side. The main anomaly to the normal conditions to be aware of is that they are rebuilding the tee boxes for holes 7, 8 and 11 — all par threes. On 7 the temp tee box is to the side of the regular location and so the distance is comparable. On the other two holes temp tees are pushed forward. And they aren't doing it halfway. In each case they have graded the full teeing area and laid down sand. You can see that the finished products will be very level and expansive as to providing room to move the markers around. They should be very nice but a while before playable. No seed or sod on them yet. Service here is always personable and efficient, pace was a little over four hours and our timing was very good as far as daylight and getting 18 holes in. An esoteric point, but when playing this course late in the day, if you have enough light to get halfway through the 17th hole, the lights from the range will provide enough illumination to finish up through 18. We didn't need it, but nice to know when squeezing in that round later in the day with crowded tee sheets all over. A shorter course, but highly recommended for what it is. Enjoyed the round and the single was good company who fit right in with us.
