So my first time back on the course and at this course in over two months. Definitely showing the signs of summer. Last time I hit up Brookside it was just before the city championship and the course was in great shape.

This course could definitely use a month or two off to recover and some real TLC. You can see a few places where they laid down sod, and it just isn't catching. Looks dead already. Most tee boxes aren't level.

The greens are good overall but once again, TLC, so many ball marks. Maybe if they had the marshals fixing ball marks then players would know they should too?

The fairways are pretty good, but the rough is either non penal or non existent. The "driveways" for parking at the Rose Bowl also cut through a few fairways and haven't recovered.

The weird thing is the course didn't seem overly dry. Felt like it was getting water, just no TLC. Feels more like there is fungus or just too much traffic keeping the grass from growing more so than water and heat. But what do I know I'm not a greenskeeper or superintendent. Just wish they could throw more money into up keep since the setting is so perfect.

Nope, not a fan! It had been many years since I played the #2 but will be many years before I come back. If you have greens the size of a small bedroom, they can’t be rock-hard and expel sand wedges off the back of the green. Some of these greens are just stupid – I’m looking at you #s 6, 8(!), 9, 10(!), 16, and 17. Even with a short iron or wedge in your hand, you’ve got to have some place to be able to hit the ball, or it’s not golf – it’s just stoopid!

Played with my monthly club with a 10:00 am tee time, which meant we teed off “on time” (hey, just ask the starter!) at 10:20. Both courses active and carts stacked up literally out to the parking lot. POP wound up at about 5 hours. Course is short with large trees narrowing/encroaching on hitting lines. Greens are small, elevated, and have numerous tucked bunkers and some nasty slopes. Holes are close together and groups from other holes are frequently driving around in your line of sight.

Everything is dry and thin and hard ……… except where it’s soft and lush. Most of the greens were very firm – more firm and faster than the practice green, but at least green speeds were very consistent throughout the round. Good lies in the fairways when there was grass, but you could just as likely get a dry/bare/rototilled area. Rough the same – most was short and dry, but many green approaches and bunker surrounds were deep and lush. And it’s all the nasty sticky kikuyu!

Sand was great – they apparently recently refilled most/all the bunkers and no one had any complaints about the traps. Tees were a mixed bag – some OK, some uneven or sloped, par-3s very torn up. Many of the back boxes were closed and the blue markers set forward up on/with the white distance. Also the course, to save wear(?), pushes the markers to one side or the other, making it sometimes difficult to find a comfortable stance.

Many water fountains worked poorly or didn’t work. Range on mats today. Large putting greens (but, oops, see above!). Bring your own yardage tools. No thanks!

It’s been about a year since I’ve been to Brookside #2 and was looking forward to it. Had a 10:00 am tee time on Wed. 6/15 and got out for free as one of the guys won a foursome at a golf tournament. One of our 4 was late arriving because of traffic but we finally got out around 10:30. Interesting because in the time we were waiting, I noticed that the tee box was open for about 25 minutes even though there were a lot of people there. As such, the course was wide open when we got out. We got through in about 3:45 which is unusual at either course at Brookside. Could have been quicker but we finally caught up with a fivesome on the back nine.


The course is good shape right now. Fairways were in real good shape. The tee boxes were very recently aerated but no big deal. Greens were very nice and noticed there were not many divot marks which was really great to see. They rolled really nice and were pretty fast. The real surprise was the bunkers. Looks like all of the bunkers were redone with new sand. I wouldn’t call myself a great bunker player but it does make it easier knowing there is nice, fluffy sand to get out of and not hard pan.


The #2 course is short. It only plays at about 6,000 yards, if that. It’s not real difficult either. I sprayed a couple drives on the back 9 and still had clear shots to the green. The wash runs through the course and can come into play on a couple of holes (yeah, I found the wash on #4). Also, the guys in the starter’s booth were very friendly. Never noticed that before and was a nice change.


Brookside always seems to be busy. When we walked off of 18 at around 2:00 pm, both courses were lined with groups waiting to get out. The driving range and practice areas were also packed (doesn’t anyone work anymore?? LOL). It’s kind of good news bad news. The bad news is that the place is packed and will be slow. The good news is the place is packed which really helps out the golf course and the game of golf overall!!

Played 5/8/16. The course is in good shape right now. Tee boxes a little beat up, some of the hole have the Blue tees next to White due to repairs. Fairways and the rough have good grass coverage, minimal bare spots. Good amount of sand in the bunkers. Greens rolled at medium speed but rolled nice and smooth, any faster than that, some of these greens of Course #2 are un-puttable.

Early Easter Sunday round at Brookside #2 with a brunch later that afternoon just a few blocks away - worked out perfectly. Fearing the huge crowd, I was surprised to see it relatively quiet as the fog settled in for a few early morning hours. Nice touch at Brookside as you have to park far away - a very charming gal drove by in a cart offering a ride to the clubhouse - very cool (I passed, but still ...).

Spent $45 to walk and played from the blue tees with a buddy from the area and an 80yo gentleman who was quite the baller! As for the course itself, it was pretty much what I expected from reading all the GK reviews about it. A LOT of short par 4s (drove to 10 ft off green on #14), but made up for with small greens with LOTS of slope and some pretty gaudy greenside bunkers blocking just about every hole.

Better have a high shot from 80-120 yards out that can stop on a dime if you want to go low here. And that green on #12 is a bit of a joke - way too severe a slope and it takes forever for each group to finally get the ball in the cup.

Conditions wise I was more than satisfied. Fairways in good shape. Not great, but good. Sand in bunkers was okay, better as the sun came out later and dried them out a bit. Tee boxes were not super and need to be leveled out better.

Greens were very fair. Rolled pretty true, minimal ball marks and not a lot of damage to be seen. But again, it's the slopes on some of them that are borderline criminal. I guess the course needs to have some teeth to make up for the shortness.

All in all a fun course though that I would enjoy playing again to make up for my poor back 9. Did real well on the front but seemed to fall apart once the turn was made. Next Easter? Maybe, just maybe.

Played here 3/4 at 11:00a. I've always avoided playing here in favor of course #1, because I considered course #2 akin to an executive course. I was wrong there. It is a par 70 (2 par fives - and one is pretty much a par four), and many of the par fours are short, but the trouble is well-placed and the greens are very small, so there is still plenty of challenge. The conditions were solid considering the price and the play they get. One thing that must be noted (and I saw it in a previous review, as well) is that the range is terrible. There are the usual amount of hitting stations (mats), but they have some kind of monthly deal where people can hit unlimited balls. So even though it was lunchtime on a workday, and my friend and I got there over an hour early, we could not hit balls to warm up. There were whole families camped at most stalls hitting hundreds of balls with no signs of stopping. We watched two older ladies hit about 100 grounders each while futility trying to work our way in to hit ten or fifteen warm up shots apiece. I'm all for the game staying popular and growing, but man that was frustrating.

Ok, the course is in good shape (Greens, Fairways Rough and T-boxes) but all that doesn't matter!! First out today 6:10 (4 ball walking) and played the first six holes in less then a hour (55 minutes) and then got to number seven and it all comes to an end because that is where Brookside puts out there back twelvers. This is part of there CLUB that let you play the back nine one course one and back twelve on two for $39.00 a month (the worst thing that ever happened here). From number seven we waited on every shot and it took four hours to play a round that should have taken THREE OR THREE AND A HALF at the most!!!!!! Brookside doesn't care about the long time golfers who have supported the courses for years (over 20 for me) and there attitude is a BIG FU when you say something. There is no Marshalling on the course and people go out and start playing on any hole they find a gap and when you are first out you have people just drive past you in a cart and start playing which upsets your rhythm and you pace of play. I for one will not play here much longer!!! YOUR CLUB SUCKS FOR GOLFER WHO WANT TO GET OUT EARLY AND GET A FAST ROUND IN!!!!!!

Conditions of the course:
Greens-Were in great shape except for all the unrepaired ball marks would you please do your fellow golfer a solid and fix them it's the only non rude thing to do. Otherwise greens were awesome
Fairways-Lush in spots and thin in other areas but generally good and for the drought and play the course gets very above average
Bunkers-Wasn't in one so no comment
Rough-Generally good
Tee boxes-Mostly good some were pretty beat up but other tan that they were above average

Customer service was awesome for the first time ever we were on time even 5 minutes early and for brookside and on a Saturday that is awesome I was so impressed and looks like they are making a big effort on the customer service side of things bravo

Tournament director I worked with is aweome she really took care of us and made sure we had a good experience shout out to sara

Now my only 1 complaint is the driving range because they have this players club where you get like a x large bucket and when you are trying to warm up before a round it's tough and the rude people there was very frustrating. They should only be able to use that promo from 10-11 and after so guys can warm up before there round

all in all it was a great experience and we will be back next year

Worth the discount price. Paid $22 this afternoon with a cart. This place feels like a factory though. Even starting at 1:30 there were people lined up on both courses ready to go out and play. Played 15 holes in 3.5 hours. Course is definitely dormant. Would not call any area lush. Only have the greens are good. Course plays pretty short. If you can drive 250-270 you're going to be hitting under 125 most holes as long as you don't end up behind a tree.

If you live close by Brookside has upped its value due to its location. In the past it was quicker to drive 30-40 minutes to somewhere such as Robinson Ranch and play a course in good condition and a fast POP, as you'd be playing a nicer course and get home at the same time. With the drought affecting most other courses being close by makes it worth playing a little more often.

Players Club here is a good value if you don't mind hitting off the mats. 2 large buckets of balls a day and discount tee times.
