Checking off another course from the list of courses I haven't played. I have always been skeptical of this place, especially considering that they park cars here every other weekend during football season, but was surprised at the course conditions considering there was a big concert last weekend. Now, don't let that fool you. I was surprised they weren't WORSE than they already were. Course isn't in terrible shape, just bleh. Tee boxes were in fair to poor condition. Only the 16th was looking really good. Most others had brown/bare spots or had been heavily sanded over. Fairways were hit or miss. I don't remember having a bad lie, but there were plenty of brown spots around. About a 65/35 ratio. What's weird is that the 1st & 18th fairways were aerated but nothing else (maybe something to do with Rose Bowl parking?) Rough was better than average. Always good when it affects your shot (unlike most courses where it is completely dead/brown). Traps were the best part of the course. A nice layer of sand with enough to get a good chunk & run. Greens however, were the worst part. Bermuda is really infiltrating these greens & affects everything. It was like playing somewhere like Florida & trying to read the grain. In places without the longer, stickier Bermuda, the ball would just take off, but as soon as it hit a patch, it would either bounce in three different directions off line or slow dramatically. Hard to get a good feel all day. On one three footer my ball bounced off line three times!! Just frustrating to have that shaggy stuff everywhere, as well as TONS of ballmarks on some greens. I really liked the layout, & like Rancho Park, could picture this course in its heyday hosting LA Opens & what not. It makes you think on a lot of shots. Some minor issues of mine but were out of my control were all the striping for event parking ALL OVER the course & the Rose Bowl blaring music all day preparing for the concert tomorrow. I know they've had to really cut back their water use, but I probably won't come back unless I get a good deal or when they're better looking in the spring after football season.

Got out yesterday with a buddy, 7/24 for a $13 (walking) twilight special, paired up with another twosome. Been a month or so since the most recent reviews here and they were pretty severe, so I felt compelled to input. Pace was a little slow and teeing off around 5:00, we had time to get in 12 holes (the front nine, and then 16 thru 18) and didn't cross the road so, technically, this review is not complete. The last of a junior tournament was wrapping up on the course so the tee markers had been removed and, after the fourth hole, so were the flags (leaving the sticks.) We teed off at the monuments. Having the luxury of not being constrained by markers meant being guaranteed a nice level, green spot, but the tees were in very nice shape overall anyway. The fairways were generally green, firm and fast. There were some occasional burnt, thinner spots, but not bad. I thought the tighter than usual lies (as opposed to thin) were fine and I enjoyed the rollout I was getting on my shots. Greens weren't cosmetically perfect, but functionally I thought they were very good—rolling pretty true and on the quick. They are on the small side but interesting. I was only in one bunker, but it was nicely groomed and a touch on the firm side. Consistent with the fairways, the rough was generally on the short side and quite playable, with occasional exceptions where it would cost a shot to get repositioned. There was a big soccer game at the Rose Bowl last week, with the attendant parking on the course, and I can't say I saw any significant evidence or effect of it at all. I'm not a huge fan of the course and don't play it that often, nor am I a hater. I think the layout is OK. But I really enjoyed yesterday's conditions. If you are partial to the course layout and have recently been disappointed by the conditions, I think it is fair to say it's currently worth another look.

Played this past Sunday, 6/29/14 with my group and I gave this course one more chance. I cannot release any of my funds to this course again. The greens (about 14 of them) are gone, fungus growing all over the greens that look like a type of seaweed splayed about, makes the ball jump everywhere, they need to tear up 1/2 of each green and reseed/resod while using the other half of the green for play. Tee boxes were ok, mostly uneven though. Fairways were acceptable, hit the fairway and get rewarded, right ? hit the rough and maybe you have grass, maybe dirt. Bunkers had nice sand in them and they were actuall raked by the staff this time before us golfers hit the links. I live too far from Brookside to drive here again. Goodbye, turn it into a parking lot

Played Sun Jun 22. Course conditions on EO Nay are declining rapidly. There really isn't anything positive to say about any part of the course right now -- greens are patchy, bumpy, slow; looks like they haven't been cut in quite a while. Tee boxes are chewed up and uneven. The fairways generally are fine and playable, if quite shaggy in spots. Pace of play was agonizingly slow today. The beverage cart staff here is very good, however, so it wasn't all bad. It would be really interesting to see what would happen if American Golf were allowed to invest to some money into these tracks. The layouts are so good, and it's just a shame to never be able to see these courses groomed up.

Have not played here since 2009. Course was in much better comdition than when I last played here. Maybe it was the "Monday pin positions or the fact I was "out of position" but I don't recall the greens having as much slope as I experienced today. Getting above the hole was just not the place to be! Fun track, particularly the back side .... so peaceful and parklike.

Teed off at 5:07am so pace not an issue, however fighting the spinklers and mantenance people were another issue. (I should be used to it by now, but maybe because I was struggling, it was more annoying than usual) Hey, you gotta blame something when you can't score on a short course like this.

Played today June 8 / mid-morning. The greens are rolling fairly quick at the moment; the back 9 greens are a bit smoother than the front. The course is in B to B+ shape, and at $45 to walk, it's a fair price. The fairways have some dry spots, and on some of the fairways, there are areas of bare dirt - it looks like they're replacing some areas w new sod. The tee boxes are fair and bunker sand is better than average. The course was in better shape than I expected. We saw a couple of groups drive over tee boxes and carts right up onto the green surrounds. It's too bad there are so many golfers who fail to show common sense and etiquette. Brookside's marshals are doing the best they can, but all of us golfers have a responsibility to demonstrate good behavior.

Played mid morning may 25. The facility was largely empty today so we were able to walk right on. The course is in B shape. A number of tee boxes are being repaired, and the fairways are pretty shaggy. Some of the fairways have bare patches of dirt. The greens are pretty soft right now, but they rolled smooth, albeit slowly. I think the conditions here will be B to B+ for the rest of the summer. Service was good today. The marshals are friendly,and they kept the water jugs full. We walked for $35, and that's a fair weekend prime time price. While conditions aren't superior, the views are, so please keep that in mind when reviewing this course.

Played early afternoon Sat Apr 12. This is one of my favorite courses in SoCal; just a fun layout and perfect for walking. The course is in B+ shape, but the greens have just been punched w large holes, and my guess is that they are probably 2-3 weeks away from being playable. Today's round was marred by a UCLA frat house tourney in front of us. The frat bros engaged in the worst behavior I've ever seen on a golf course. Most were drunk and driving up on greens, into bunkers, yelling and screaming all over the course -- it's one thing to have fun within your group, but when you start affecting others, you're simply being a jerk. These kids obviously have fathers and mothers...well, if these were your kids, you've failed as a parent. But as bad as these young punks behaved, I place the blame on American Golf. They didn't do anything about these punks. The poor golf course ambassadors tried talking to some of the "bros", but they had zero backup from the course's GM. So if you're American Golf's "exec" in charge of the Brookside facility, you should be ashamed. And if you're with the city of Pasadena, please send the cops the next time the "bros" schedule a tourney b/c arrests can be made, fines can be assessed, and we can help pay down some more Rose Bowl debt.

Played 2/1 in the morning and CSpan's review was pretty much spot-on. Rough, fairways, and tee boxes were all very spotty. I had at least two lies in the fairway that were lying on bare dirt. Rough around the greens was pretty chewed up as well. Several tee boxes had severe divot damage. Bunkers were pretty good with enough sand to hit from. The greens were the best part of the course running medium-fast and pretty true. A few pin placements for the day were pretty ridiculous though.
