Played the Blues (69.1/121/6025) with RGM2525 on a teeoff.com special for $19.99 in 4H, 10M, teeing off just before noon. We played behind a 5some, so it seemed slower than it actually was. The weather was 80ish and humid with a little breeze. First time I have played this old school, shorter, fun, parkland style course with small greens. The vast majority of the holes are straight or relatively straight, no doglegs on this design that features MANY short par 4's. Strange design for a par 70 in that the front 9 has eight par 4's and one par 3. I have never played a regulation course that I did not play a par 5 until the 11th hole? The back has two par 5's, three par 3's and four par 4's, I found it the more interesting of the 9's. Many holes have either a wash or OB on one or both sides, yet it did not feel that tight, even with many mature trees that overhang the fairways. It reminded me of the course I grew up playing back in N.C. where I could spray the ball off the tee and if I missed in the right places, still have a short iron into most par 4's. The tees were thin but playable, most divots had been fixed. Several were humpbacked and could use some leveling. The fairways were more thin than lush but had good coverage overall. Quite playable even with some occasional hardpan areas. A rarity these days is that numerous fairways had staked off areas that you would sink in if you drove/walked through it. I plugged 2 balls that were almost lost, one on a drive, one on an approach shot from an abundance of water in a lower spot? The rough was mostly shaved down and was not very penal. I found it usually good to chip out of. I was not in any traps but they looked to be well maintained. The humpbacked greens look 95% recovered from their recent aeration. They held approach shots great, like throwing darts with short irons. However, they were somewhat bumpy and medium slow to putt on. Looked like bent, poa, with occasional bermuda, crabgrass and kikuyu mixed in? I suspect both the mixture of grasses and the recent aeration contributed to their inconsistency to putt on. The customer service from the starter to the cart gal to the snack shop on the turn was all great. Had their lunch combo, $6.50 for a hot dog, drink and chips. Their $2 Margarita special @ the snack stand tasted good on a hot afternoon after I mixed it with Gatoraide. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would definitely play here again.

Ok, the crazy people are running the asylum! I play Brookside almost 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) and this is a typical occurrence. We were the second group out (6:28) and on the third hole a single drives to the middle of the fairway drops a ball or two and maybe three and stats playing. So I went up to her and said what gives you the right to cut in front of us? Of course she said "I don't speak english". Not true! Then she says that she skipped two holes!!??? Then on number nines green just before you cross the street another person comes from outside the golf course and joins her! We call the golf course and they send out a marshal who goes up to them (they have now skipped number 10 to get in front of the first group out) and they say the magical words around here "monthly pass" which I guess gives them the right to do anything they want?????? I have a monthly and I don't do that. This is an every day thing at Brookside and is very disruptive! Now the course it has come back from the punching of about two weeks ago and the greens are smooth and mid. fast.

Have played Brookside #2 a couple of times this year but today got on with a special that was great. $29 with cart and includes lunch and 2 drinks. That's a great deal. Overall, the course is in pretty good shape. Tee boxes are a little ragged but the fairways are in good shape. Greens rolled really good and picked up speed once they dried out. I wouldn't call this a difficult course but you do need to keep it in the fairway otherwise you find yourself in trees. Its not very long (about 6,000 yds) but it is a fun course to play.

POP was fine. About 4 hours. Very nice folks in the starter's shack and great service in the restaurant. Had a great day today. Definitely a nice to play.

I teed off at 6:30 am on Wednesday and we played as a twosome in a little under three hours, never having to wait for a single shot. I had never played the #2 course, so I wanted to check it out. I thought the layout was "sporty" and lots of fun at just over 6,000 yards from the blues. The conditions from tee to green were very nice. It was wonderful to feel soft grass under my feet after so many rounds at Los Verdes. The tee boxes were fine, though a couple were a little uneven. I really liked the greens. They were smooth and true, but not overly fast. This is also very easy course to walk I see why the #1 course is the more popular "big brother" of the two courses. but I liked the #2 quite a bit.

This was my first run at Brookside. When I first drove up it looked and was very busy. I got a bucket of balls and headed to the range which was jammed. Luckily I didn't have to wait like about 5 others after I got a spot. After checking I figured we would run a bit behind due to the crowds. We actually were right on time. Put out in a 5some. For the heavy traffic that is run through that course on a daily basis and it being a parking lot during the UCLA season it was in surprisingly good condition. The fairways were decent. The rough was just that. ROUGH. The bunkers were pretty nice and actually had sand in them. The greens by far were the best feature of this course. Well maintained and not too fast but not too slow. Tee boxes were ok. Everything on this course is flat until you get around the greens, then there is some elevation changes. I mean not a lot, about 4-5 feet. But it something when everything is flat.
Overall I would go back and I may next weekend. Pretty easy course with very little trouble to get into unless you spray the ball every where.

ironically enough, after my recent review in which I complained about tournaments and pace at Brookside #2, I participated in a large scramble tournament there on Friday, 5/8. The conditions were a notch better than the last time I played there in that greens are now fully recovered and the placement of the tee boxes resulted in generally better, flatter teeing grounds. All else is as previously reported and I would say that if you are a fan of course #2, it's probably as a good a time as any to play it—the conditions are pretty solid. While I enjoyed playing and participating, of course our tournament was slow. Because it was shotgun and we finished around 6:00pm (after something over a 5.5 hr. round), I doubt there was any room for anyone to be put out behind us and, consequently, get stuck with our pace. In the unlikely event someone did, I pity them.

Went down Friday, 4/24, for a 2:36 tee time on #2, along with my buddy and a couple of singles. All were good company, although one quit after hole six, per below. First the conditions: Greens have a ways to go before recovering. The remnant aeration hole pattern is still very evident. It wasn't like putting on a waffle iron, the balled rolled fairly true, and they were still on the surprisingly quick side of medium pace, but it will be another week before they are in full recovery. The tee boxes were generally well covered, but I found enough of them were set up such that it was hard to find a level spot. Too often there was an unavoidable bit of slope or hump in the box, which doesn't seem necessary given the overall size of the teeing grounds to work with. Fairways generally presented decent, green lies with a good amount of runout. Rough was generally not especially punitive and the bunker sand was a hint moist and heavy but suitably payable. So if you discount the greens, the overall conditions were good, with minor issues. I did have an issue with the general scene and organization. There was a shotgun tournament being set up for course #1, so all non-tournament traffic was shunted over to #2. Also, according to the starter, somewhere out ahead of us on #2 was a 40-person tournament. Consequently, a backup on the first tee meant teeing off almost 30 minutes late onto a sluggish course. Based on our tee time, finishing 18 should have been a piece of cake, even on a Friday afternoon. As it was, we quit after 16 at around 7:15 in the face of a clogged 17th. It would have been getting dark by the time we could have teed off there. I'm glad to see any course doing a lot of business these days. In the case of Brookside, I respect for the scope and ambition of their operation. But if you are having tournaments and special events, be savvy enough to calculate the impact on your operations and pace, and book accordingly. I admit I don't fully understand the popularity of Brookside, but it's one of the reasons I generally stay away. I think there are as good or better courses locally with less congestion. I'll be back at some point, but not too soon and not without more thoroughly investigating their tee sheet for the day.

Played today, as # 1 greens punched on 3/15-16. POP 3.45. The course is in good shape. Really don't know why # 2 gets less attention, as it is a nice course to play (especially enjoyed the stretch from 10 - 14). Tee boxes were clean, but felt some leveling needs to done in the future. Rough was sticky and wet and about 1" high. Bunkers were in good shape. Fairways were clean and providing good roll and lies (after States water announcement today we shall see). Was impressed with the greens and their condition (putted well and fast). As # 1 has larger greens, accuracy is important on # 2 with the smaller greens. Customer service excellent. In the future I will play this one more often, especially when # 1 is crowded.

POP was still 4:15 after we caught up to a fivesome after the 4th hole. Tee boxes were good and leveled except for the par 3s, they were pretty chewed up. Fairways were good with some bare spots. Bunkers were good with a good amount of sand. Greens were rolling true, med to fast speed. A few of the greens had some bare spots. A lot of the golfers playing, did not care about fixing their ball marks, the greens are full of them; if you make it, fix it. Overall, the conditions were good.
