Went down to Brookside to get out as a single yesterday. A warm, cloudless day, there were a lot of golfers and activity going on, including some high schoolers going out on Course #1. I'm not used to seeing this many golfers around the staging area of the other courses I frequent, especially on a weekday, but Brookside is a popular course and it's range, green and starter are in a relatively confined area. After warming up, I put my name in for Course #2 and was called up within 10 minutes, paid $16 to walk (wow! pleasant surprise) and was out on the course directly at about 2:40, paired with a two-some and another single—all good company to varying degrees. I don't play here much and it had been a while, but mjquick's recent review of the conditions swayed me to try it for a change of pace, and he was right on. The overall conditions were very good and pretty consistent from tee to green. Tee boxes were all good with maybe one exception being a tad less than level. A lot of divots on the par three tees but still plenty of green space to spot your tee. Fairways were nicely covered and with enough firmness to give you a good roll. I was in a couple of bunkers, generally well raked, and had no complaints about the sand. For the record, the other single was in a bunker that had a thin layer of sand over a hard base and that caused a skulled shot (I believed him). Greens were very nice—receptive but a good speed on the quick side. They were not as fast as I have seen them on some occasions, but considering the undulations on a lot of the greens, it was probably the appropriate amount of quickness, so they were challenging but playable. The course was busy but the pace was steady so it was something over a 4.5 hour round. There was beverage cart service—something I'm not used to seeing—and they came around frequently enough. It was a great day for golf and they have the place in very nice condition. If you like Brookside #2, or if you are curious to try it, now is a good time.
