Played Chester Washington for the first time today. Went to cool clubs in the morning and got fitted for new irons and a new shaft for the driver. Well worth the price. I then had to go near LAX for work the next couple of days and wanted to find a course nearby . I found CW on greenskeeper and saw it was only 15 minutes from my hotel. I arrived at 145pm and was sent out with another single. Luckily the foursome on the first tee waived us up and off we went. Played in just over 3 hours and got all 18 holes in. Almost no wait on any tee! Tee boxes were beat up but level and was always able to find a spot for a tee. Fairways were a mixed bag, most green and easy to hit from. I did land in some divots but was able to play from them. Hit a couple of traps and was surprised they were soft and no rocks. The greens were lush and BUMPY. I figured it was late in the day and there was a lot of players today but there was no way of having a good putt. I would say if you go out early they may be in better shape. For me a course is rated by what you pay. I payed $30 to play 18 and ride a cart. I think this rate is perfect for the conditions. I think I would not pay more than $40 Anytime. I did read the previous reviews and didn't have any of the problems others have had. I would play the course again if I was in the area but I definitely would not make a special trip to play here.

Played Nov. 15th, NO Marshal, NO beverage cart !!, NO snack bar open !!! What the hell is with AMERICAN GOLF ??????????????? We were told the snack bar might reopen after the new year ???###** Why Are all these people out of work and golfers have no amenities when playing ??????????? Almost got killed on green #2 as 6 range balls either went through the net or over and landed next to us on the GREEN !!! Immediately called the golf shop to let them know !!! NO ONE answered 3 times, message came on said " this mail box is FULL !!, please call back later. Called the General Managers office !!!! Voice mail came on, " no one in right know leave a message" which we did about the problem. Never got a call back. 2 to 4 groups on each par 3, no one waves up !!!! 2 somes and 3 somes all over the course. Why do they even open the golf shop ??? Just let people go there on their own and tee off when its their turn with a ball rack for picking your turn ???? This golf outfit should be taken over by someone that knows something about golfers !!
The course was in good shape except for the usual hard pan spots all around. The course was overhauled some years ago and was very good, but know it is deterioration again. With all these negatives, we finished in 5 hours 15 minuets for this course which
should average, as in the old days, 4 to 4 1/2 hours at the most !!!

With a buddy down in the So Bay not wanting to travel far, CW got the call on Saturday with a 9:08 tee time from the blues. But tee times at CW are flexible, meaning on a Saturday morning good luck teeing off on time. We got started around 9:30 and waited all day for a POP well over 5 hours. Now if the course were in fantastic shape, that would almost make the POP tolerable, but there are some issues. The post-rain greens were slow, bumpy and ball mark heavy. They also were wildly inconsistent in terms of that speed from hole to hole. Some of the rough was good but too many times ended up in dirt and nothing else. The tee boxes also need some TLC stat. There were some good things though, like quite green fairways and very good sand around the course. When you can get on this track at a nice discount rate or twilight, it's well worth it. But on this particular Saturday the $45 greens fee was a rather tough pill to swallow in relation to the final product.

Greens aerated by the look of it like last week.

Tee boxes in decent shape, flat, level and lush. Fairways had good coverage not one thin lie except for a few spots along the sides next to the rough. Rough is mix of thick, cut low, or thin. Green complexes had good coverage. Sand in bunkers around some holes had little or no sand at the bottom; plenty around the sides (Hole 4 comes to mind). Bunkers for the most part are hard packed and playable.

Pace of play was swift. We were relaxed, not rushed and kept pace with threesome ahead and at least a hole ahead of the group behind until the last three holes. We could have pushed the group ahead quite easily but since the groups behind were holding steady at least a hole behind, why bother.

It would be nice if they kept ice water coolers on the course -- at least around holes closer to the club house.

I would come back again. Conditions look to be pretty good currently notwithstanding the recent aeration. Figure a week or two but the course itself looks very healthy. Play here again? Yeppers, especially if they keep up their maintenance. It's a bargain between 2pm-4pm at $19 (includes cart)

Played this week for the LA County match play event. As last week we were over 30 min late teeing off for an 8:48 tee time. It was bunched 1-4 but opened up a bit after that. SO some course design some stuffing the tee sheet.

SO from tee to green here we go.
The tee boxes were lush and had full coverage but some had low spots or were slightly uneven, The grass was too thick and it made hitting anything other than driver a bit tough. IT would be nice of they punched and dethached the tee boxes.

The fairways were similar to the tee boxes. A heavy blanket of kykuya that gave very fluffy lies in most places. Some places were clearly over watered and had turned to mud and grass bits. NONE OF THESE WERE MARKED. I understand that this happens but get out and use the spray paint to mark it.

The areas just short of the green were an odd mix of grasses and cushion. Like many courses the apron was kykuya grabbed the ball and bounced it straight up. Not a critisism but rather a warning for people. Lots of the area around the green had a mix of grasses with deep but thin rye that had the ball sit way down and gave some real challenge.

The greens were quick from above the hole but they were soft and accepted any well struck shots. But the soft greens were also bumpy and hard to hold some lines. But really the greens are the star of the course.

The worst part of the course was the bunkers which appeared to have been freshly watered. That was nice for the fairway traps but the greenside bunker had a think layer of wet sand over a very hard bottom which made any type of shot tough.

Decent layout with a bunch of short holes on the front then big holes at 7 and 9. Still don't like the crazy narrow green on 10 but the rest of the course gives some playable holes and some long challenges.

Snuck out to Chester Washington today - 3pm twilight for $28 with cart. Played the blues with a buddy and nice to see any slower groups didn't hesitate to let us play through so we finished well before dark in just around 3 hours.

Fairways are in pretty good shape but far too few people filling their divots. Nice sand in the bunkers but far too few people raking after themselves. The greens are healthy but far too many bumps and length ... and far too few people fixing their ball marks.

In short, the course is in good shape right now but could be SO much better if people took better care of the little things. Tee boxes were good, actually.

CW is a good little track for an afternoon just like this one.

06/03/16 - Overall the course is in very good shape. Tee boxes are good, they could use a little work in the level department but not bad. The fairways are in decent shape for a public and the sand is OK but very playable. Now the greens are in great shape, not beat up and perhaps the best I've seen them in so they're doing their maintenance. For the money I like playing this course, it's a good layout and I think worth the money, especially if you can find a special.

Played day 2 of the LA county 4-ball. Another great event by Mike. Today we had 9- min intervals and waited on 1 shot, never saw held up the group behind us and finished in 4:20 starting at 8:06 on a Sunday. Why can't this happen every day. Everyone on the 1st tee on time. Every group waited for the prior group to hit the green and even with the 2nd hole being a par 3 no waiting.

Now the course. This is a really diverse course with the first 4 hold being flat and open, 5-9 are up and down across a huge wash that has turf. Next is the shallow 10th a par 3. Then up and down hill bending around corners. The course is short but plays much longer and we had it stretched to its max.

The tees had good coverage but were too lush with lots of grass getting in the way. The Kukuya was thick and matted so finding a good lie for the par 3s could be tough. The tees were mostly level although I did have a sprinkler cover in the middle of the teeing area on 16.

The fairways had good coverage but the spongy lies that come with the Kukuya. Several times on hilly lies I had little clumps that caught the club. Nothing bad just annoying. Few divots but that could be in part due to the set up.

The rough was spotty, mixed grass with varying lengths. I had one shot in a grass hole that was diffulicult to play out of.

The fring and green area was overgrown with the grainy grass inconsistently catching shots or shooting them through. This made bouncing it up very hard. The fring was wiry enough that I couldn't putt from even a few feet off the green.

The greens had great coverage, few pitch marks but were very soft and spongy. The speed was slow and they didn't break as much as you would think. But they were consistent and rolled true.

Overall a nice track with a great variety of holes but never in the tournament condition one would hope. If they would firm up the greens, mow the fringe tightest, remake the 10th and 13th greens this would be a really nice course. For now I will keep practicing here, but wouldn't put it in my regular rotation unless you like slow greens.

Played today with the wind; thankfully after the rain came through. Pace of play a blistering 3 1/2 hours -- midday. Thank you all you fair weather golfers it was a fun day of some pretty decent conditions considering the passing rainstorms. Windy conditions were fun. Even after the rain a well placed shot gave a decent roll. Greens are very receptive to aggressive play so fire for the pins! Greens were slowish, but held their line well. Greens in pretty decent shape. Fairways ... what winter conditions? There are no winter conditions, in fact fairways had great coverage, never had a thin lie. Rough is mix of thick grass and some thin lies but still it didn't feel like winter conditions. Bunkers still soaked from rain storm. I would give it a day or two of hotter weather to dry out. By the look of it most if not all bunkers have new sand. Tee boxes are flat and very playable. They rotate the tees to you won't see a lot of wear on the tee boxes. Overall I was very pleased with the conditions. All things considered I would play here again. Course drains very well. Did not encounter many wet spots from sprinklers and most areas that were muddy would be dry very soon. Play here again? I am almost tempted to play here again tomorrow. Conditions are better than average for this time of the year. With daylight savings just around the corner you better believe I will be playing here again.
